Three Free Patterns, Kaffe Table Runner, Wheel Within a Wheel Progress, Me in the Garden

The deer have been around and gnawed down a couple of hosta plants; here they eat the same one and leave all the rest.
I've finished the impromptu/squirrel project, the Kaffe Table Runner. It finished at 13 by 25 inches. I enjoyed the hand quilting part of this project and how it used up some very old scraps.
I decided, because it was geometrical, I would try some rounded edges for the quilting as contrast. Sharing with the Purple Party at So Scrappy.
I cut a cardboard template and used my hera tool to make the quilting lines.
Then I cut down the template to make a smaller leaf.  I think it is enough and looks okay.

I've been sorting and cutting pieces for more of the Wheel Within a Wheel blocks. I still don't have four completely together to show you the other "wheels" that go with them. These are big at 18 inch squares and I am really enjoying working with the colours and fabrics.
LeeAnna's prompt this Thursday was to name a favourite piece of summer clothes.  I'll share this photo with you because I am wearing my favourite summer clothing item, my straw hat. This was taken August 26, 2018 a few days past my birthday. I know this because I posted it to Facebook to thank folks for the birthday wishes. Our front walkway and I'm puzzled why the hydrangeas are the odd colour they are and yet the yellow Ligularia are in bloom which only happens in August.

I don't go out without my hat in the summertime to the point now I feel naked without it. It was bought in a specialty shop where the owner makes hats...quite expensive at the time but I've certainly gotten my use of it and it is still as good as new. With my Vitiligo I am very sun shy.
Perhaps you'd like to share what your favourite summer clothing is.??

Thursdays's Three (or Four) Free Patterns

Another of the pretty chandelier quilt patterns.

This combines two familiar blocks to create a beautiful effect. It is called Le Chandelier and the free pdf is Here. I found it at a site called I Love Quilting Forever and at their link you will find a variety of chandelier quilt patterns.

This one below is called Picnic at Daybreak and the pattern is found at Moda's huge free pattern bank.  Link to this pattern! I chose it because I'm still in a red, white and blue plus baskets kind of mode.

Here's a definite summer time pattern.  Ice Lollies to be found at the Craft With Cartwright site. Perfect stitching for these hot July days.
I must admit I really like this one combining two loves. Link is here.
Loads and loads of stuff there to explore including this to check out for embroiderers.

Talented and generous Ruth is the lady behind this very dynamic site offering recipes, DIY ideas, etc. in addition to the stitchy stuff. Definitely worth checking out!

I'm going out thrifting this weekend and so looking forward to that. Wish me luck! And I hope there is something fun happening for each and every one of you too.

I like the hat. I bought one in NOTL from a proper hat shoppe. I've had it for years! Well worth it.

  2. It's such a treat to see the deer - glad they don't eat all the hostas! Your Kaffe tablerunner is so pretty. I really like the rounded quilting you did on it. I, too, hardly go anywhere outdoors without my hat these days! Thanks for all the free patterns - you're great at finding those!

  3. I have a tan leather hat I bought in Brisbane many years ago, when we flew back to NZ, Hugh and I were picked out, at random I guess, and submitted to a drug screen test. They ran the wand round the inside of my hat, up and down my body, declared I was fine, then Hugh's turn. and after a similar process, made him take off his sturdy sandals and swab them again., all clear. I don't go out in the sun without my hat or glasses that screen the bright light from my eyes.A good hat is worth any price to be able to wear it for years and still love it as much.

  4. LOVE that hat. I had a similar one, it was perfect and people used to stop me to say it was perfect, then a bird pooped on it, I didn't know how to clean it, so haven't worn it since. I still kept it... it's perfect after all.
your garden is lush... lush and wonderful. Miss my huge hydrangea bushes in MD, how they bent down and made a baby one year so I had two big bushes.

  6. Your Kaffe table runner is gorgeous, Jocelyn! The quilted ovals really do compliment the geometrics. Favourite summer wear? My lightweight cotton cargo pants, Teva sandals and of course, a shade hat. My eyes are very sensitive to light so I must have eye shade in sunlight.

  7. I love your Kaffe table runner. I think your hand quilting was the perfect addition to those solid half squares. The colors look amazing together and the change of quilting threads added even more. I love your hat. I am not a hat person; my head is more kid sized so it is hard to find one to fit. Enjoy your birthday whenever it was this summer and the beautiful garden you have. ( I just got back from visiting Ontario by the Kawarthas.)

  11. Jocelyn - I am convinced that deer eat within a certain range of their snouts - if something is too tall, they don't bother it ... I have some plants in my garden that are eaten over and over and nearby plants are not touched ... Your runner is lovely. My go to summer clothing - sleeveless or short sleeve, floaty summer dresses. Enjoy your weekend!

  12. Neat hat! Love your quilting on the table topper. It is perfect. I could use one of those ice lollies - rather hot where I am!

  13. I must admit that I hate wearing a hat and only on the most extreme cold days of winter will I bother putting one on. I don't seek out being in the sun because I break out in a rash so luckily I can avoid a hat in the summer too. You look beautiful in yours!
Summer clothes for me - long dresses, always.

  16. Great hat, and great picture of the deer! I should wear a hat because I have lupus, but I don't usually because it matts my hair all down. Your Kaffe table runner is lovely. Thanks for the free links!

  17. How did you train the deer to only eat that one hosta plant? I LOVED your table runner. What a great project to use scraps! Your hat is terrific!

  20. That is a great hat!! And beautiful flowers.

The deer haven't been hanging out in our backyard this year like normal. I keep wondering if maybe we have a mountain lion in the area again that is scaring the deer away.

  25. Your deer are so considerate not to eat all the hostas. You are so beautiful Jocelyn, and your garden setting looks like heaven. I should have been wearing a hat all my life, now I need to go to the dermatologist - eeek! The quilting on your table runner is exquisite, and your wheel within a wheel blocks look awesome.
