Stitchy Gifts, Kits, Links, Quarter Dresdens

I'm feeling a little drowsy this morning sitting here by the fire. I've just mopped the whole upstairs because we've had a lot of activity here. It's been a trying week because our furnace quit working and what a time to choose to do that during these very cold days in February. I'm thankful to have Brad who helped me with getting wood up from the back basement door for our fireplace...that is quite a trek. The little heaters we also used were okay but it was really nice to be able to keep a fire burning.

We've had to go in and out for appointments too which has all kept the dogs and me off kilter. But thankfully, in the end, we just went four days without a furnace. I didn't realize putting in a new furnace would take so long. The two guys were here for five hours which drove the dogs mad- they wanted to be with them! Of course, they had to remove the old 21 year old furnace first which took up some of the time. Thankfully the new system is working fine so far, and, fingers crossed this episode is now history.

I'd found this book below and want to read it. It's a book where writers who knit or try to share their stories about knitting. I always knew Barbara Kingsolver did but I didn't know Sue Grafton did. Turns out there are a lot of writers who knit and more that would love to. Here is the Amazon link if you'd like to read more about it. It would make a great gift.

Kate at the Last Homely House still interests me and it's the perfect kind of show to have on while knitting. I don't have to follow any instructions or such and the tv room was also the perfect spot this week as I could keep it warm in there with a small heater. Isn't the winter sun on these colours pretty.
I've also been working on my Quarter Dresdens project. Now I have more of the working parts kitted up all ready to stitch together so I feel better about it. I'm still using mail flyers, the flimsy ones, for template material and an old cookie tin to keep them in.
I've decided to use more colour in the scrappy EPP blades; I know white is the colour of the year and all but so many in white got boring to me.

I'm using dark greens, the RSC February colour, for these backgrounds and one is looking lighter here than it really is and other darker. Sigh
Beth gave me three embroidery kits for Christmas. The Puffin is Newfoundland's provincial bird so it makes sense I finally embroider one. It's from Hook, Line and Tinker whose link is HERE if you'd like to check out their other cute designs.
I get so many Chickadees at my feeders and love them. I wanted it to be Canada's national bird but it lost out to the Canada Jay, formerly the Gray Jay. This is a sweet little kit from Nest Embirdery. Their link is HERE where there is a gorgeous bumblebee I'd also like to stitch.
And as well, this kit by Wendy Williams that I'd mentioned to her quite a while ago that I liked. Now I don't have to order it. I've admired this one for a long time and you can check it and others equally beautiful at Flying Fish Kits.
Stitchy gifts are the best, aren't they!

I'm feeling a bit tired but a good tired, if you know what I mean. The kind you feel when you've moved your body. We've decided to treat ourselves to a lunch out at one of the very old restaurants in a nearby town. They make good pork souvlaki there and that's what I always have. They make their own dressing for the Greek salad, something else I'm fond of. Would this appeal to you?

Happy Valentine's Day to you all too!

  1. Oh wow - I'm so sorry about the furnace. Wouldn't you know it would happen when the weather has been so cold. Good thing you have a fireplace!!
Lucky you to receive such fun stitchy kits for Christmas. Beth obviously knows what you would like.
Greek salad and pork souvlaki sounds like a great Valentine's lunch...enjoy!

  2. I'm glad you've got the furnace switched, it was too cold to be without one. Hopefully the space heaters and the fireplace kept your home warm enough you didn't need to worry about freezing water lines. Those little kits are so cute and the food you talk about sounds delicious! I have no idea what the food is like but I'm always ready to try something new. Happy stitching!

  3. Oh man what a time for the furnace to die, but glad everything got switched out properly. We experience the same when workers come to the house. We have to gate the dogs in a room where they bark because they want to have their nose in everything the stranger is doing! And having people in your house is just so discombobulating. No wonder you are tired. I'm so glad you are escaping to a neat restaurant!

  4. Oh we had a thermostat die on us 2 weeks ago on Friday night!!
Luckily there was a repair person on call and it took about 3 hours to get a new one installed...not good when the temps are so frigid!! Glad you have a new furnace going well...
Love the 1/4 dresden blocks--so neat!! I treated myself to some colorful fabric cutting as our snowey landscape and white skies are getting to me!! I need some color;))))
    Stay warm...

  7. It’s a rule that the furnace will die when it’s frigid outside….the same thing happened to us! Good thing you have a fireplace and some backup heaters. Your hands were warm enough to continue sewing and knitting! Fun embroidery kits! I have a few in the wings that I should work on when my funky rooster is done. Gail at the cozy quilter

  9. You have been busy with appointments and with the stress of having to replace your furnace, these breakdowns all happen at the worst times don't they. You have some pretty little stitchery kits to work on.

Sorry about all that. We've had to replace our furnace twice. (Long story, but it's no fun.)

  11. That sounds yummy! Thank goodness you have heat again. Nice that you had back up heat. Pretty stitcheries. Love the knitting. I've read a couple cozy mysteries with the sleuths being knitter or quilters. Always a fun read.

  12. Four days without a furnace during that cold snap!! Bummer!! Your fireplace is not only a hero but GORGEOUS as well. I have an ancient but working perfectly wood burning cookstove on standby. Your colourful knitting project sure looks dazzling in the sunshine. My sister and I are also fans of Kate at The Last Homely House. Happy Valentines Day, Jocelyn. ❤️❤️🦉

  13. Our youngest son's boiler went just before the really cold snap here in Saskatchewan. My friends boiler went during the -55C windchill temps. Glad you got yours replaced.

I have been watching Kate at The Last Homely House. Love it. Thanks for telling me about her.

    God bless.

  22. Four days without a furnace . .brrr. . .Fireplace heat is good; small heaters are good; but, it isn't the same as a working furnace! Until we replaced ours, we could guarantee it would break down during the coldest cold weather! I sure like your Dresden plates!

  23. So many interesting things shared. I like the look of the knitting book. I may break down and buy it. Sorry about losing heat for 4 days. Yikes. No doubt the new furnace will be working like a charm. Have fun stitching your new designs. I particularly like the puffin.

  25. I am so glad that you are warm again with your new furnace. Our 24 year old furnace decided to be balky just after Christmas when we had a house full of family, but thankfully didn't need to be replaced. Thank goodness for your fireplace. The colors of your knitting are beautiful. I love your stitchery gifts.
