Here is one of the Mother trees near our laneway featuring in a photo taken Wednesday.
It's still mostly winter here and that's all I'll say about that. I suppose it's appropriate that I'm still knitting my very warm afghan. Here's how long it is now.The male Cardinal is even more beautiful this far into what should be spring. He may be the showiest bird we have in Canada especially against a winter landscape.
And I'm so happy the Barred Owls have returned to Jim's nesting box in Indianna. They were a little late which made us worry it would be the first time in 13 years that no owl would choose the box. Here is the video after egg #2 was laid and Here is the link to the live cams run by the wonderful Cornell Lab folks.Tony forwarded this to me. 😊 Fair enough, I am a little obsessed with them.
Here are a few more of my little appliqued snowmen in progress. I decided I needed a teacup snowman, a sailor, and a ghost in the house snowman. It's fun to stitch these. I also machine stitched a couple 9 patch blocks to see if I liked the white better than the dark colour of the original pattern and I think I do.
It's been a busy week with appointments every day including the vet. Tick season is almost here and we needed the special medication for the dogs that helps repel insects.
Here's a photo of the happy freeloaders. Petey would never join Ned on his couch but does so now, a sign of his comfort with us all. Ned disappears on this couch as his coat matches the colour exactly.
I'm finding there are not enough hours in the day to get everything done. I fight the feeling that I am falling behind. Behind what exactly? Ridiculous, I know.
I hope you are not feeling behind on things and finding something to soothe you from the news out there that is all miserable. Even the Oscars, which I normally enjoy, upset me to see and hear about this new thing that some women feel they have to take to be thin. Madness!
Take care of yourselves!
Happy to share this post with great linky parties- Alycia Quilts, The Inquiring Quilter and Creations Art Quilts.

You reminded me that I missed watching the eagle cam from Cornell this year. Seeing the owl is pretty wonderful so I'll have to watch more.
Your dogs are so very cute together. And I know what you mean about there never being enough hours in the day.
love your afghan....my mom knit me sox with those colors...
Is Petey a long term guest in your home? I'm sure the dogs love sharing their adventures together.
I haven't watched the Oscars in years I know longer have any interest in them - I don't like that women keep taking things to make themselves skinny unless they need to because of being so overweight that there are health problems - one sister in law had the stomach surgery and she has lost so much weight she now looks very old, skin sagging and she looks like she needs 15-20 pounds back - I think she lost a 100. But she no longer has diabetes and she can walk easily now. Sorry you are still having snow - I'm sure you are ready for it all to go away. Love the birds and the owls, the quilts and afghan
Snowing here today, and things do not look good for the Easter weekend either. Love the cardinal, such a beautiful colour.
God bless.
Our snow has finally all melted. It seemed to take a long time this year. I can hear the birds singing in the woods behind my house. It feels a little more like spring! It's still not very warm yet.
Winter wonderland! It's beautiful, but.... it's soon April! Interesting about the barred owl, and the cardinal is so pretty against the white snow. Love the colors for your afghan. Your snowmen are adorable! Love the one in the cup. First I did not see Ned! lol How sweet they have become good friends. I've stopped watching the news, what's going on is too upsetting and they don't always tell the truth. I skim through newspaper headlines, that's more than enough.
The red cardinal is beautiful against the snow, Jocelyn! And isn't that barred owl cam neat - and eggs laid, too? I've been watch the Big Bear Lake bald eagle nest cam again this year - there are two eggs and pip watch starts March 31st. Love that cartoon - that's us at our house, always asking what birds did you see?!
That cardinal really stands out in that snowy background. The only good thing about March snow is that it won’t stick around for long. Your dogs get along just fine, it seems. Love seeing your snowmen! Gail at the cozy quilter
Wow on the snow! I am always so happy to see a cardinal. I love your dogs. I keep wondering about Petey. Is he just visiting or is he home with you for good? I quit watching the Oscars when they got political, but I always look at the runway! I was shocked to see Emma Stone, who has always been so pretty and wholesome looking to me. I wish someone would convince the women that shoulder blades are not attractive. I was horrified at a commercial the other day in which a very trim young woman said she was tired of getting turned down for the Ozempic-type prescriptions because her BMI was too low! So she was advertising the place that gave her what she wanted so she could lose more weight. It is a sad state of the mind.
Wow! That snow is hanging around!!! The cardinal is beautiful. My friend gave me a lesson. I had no idea that there were different varieties. I thought there were only red ones! Your snowmen are super cute!
The cardiinals are even more beautiful against the snowy background!
The snow is still beautiful even as you long for Spring! I am addicted to the Cornell bird cams, especially the owls and the red tail hawks. I really enjoy reading your blog and look forward to the next entry. Take care of those lovely puppies.
Beautiful Cardinal. We don't see them out here in the dry west so it is really a bonus to see this bright red bird. I enjoyed the owl cam too. Your little snowmen are so cute and clever. I can tell you are having fun with them.
Oh my goodness that looks so cold. The Cardinal bird looks beautiful.
When I see your photo, I think of my skis... and just around the corner in Prague, the World Figure Skating Championships are also something for winter, but I like that... there's an exhibition this afternoon...
The Cardinal looks so magnificent in all that white :-))
Have fun knitting... your appliquéd snowmen are very cute.
Happy Sunday from Viola
Our snow is almost gone. I heard a Brown Creeper this week and seen a few birds checking out our birdhouses. Spring is coming! OMG, there is never enough hours in the day to do all the things! LOL
I have to say - during my trip to Canada - in January so many moons ago - one thing that fascinated me was how the snow lay on the branches - almost like a thin line - but also I went outside with a dark coat on - and a snowflake was on my coat and I could see the pattern. I know none of that is amazing to you - but as I live in Australia and know sun and heat and sand and waves....to me it was memorable!
So was a swimming pool with 4' of snow around it...LOL
I also have that " finding there are not enough hours in the day to get everything done" feeling ...silly when I don't work anymore! Is it because we take on so much more???
That cardinal is so pretty against all that white. You might be stuck in winter, but it sure is a lovely place to be. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.
