The lone rabbit is still hanging around. I glanced out the kitchen window and ears caught my eye amongst the old vegetation.
And here's a closeup when he went under the bush and just sat there for such a long time I gave up and left. I had been curious to see what you would eat there.
This is an Eastern Cottontail and he will stay mostly brown/grey all winter. I wish he would move on into the forest but there are so many places to provide sheltar for him here; I understand why he wants to stay. Lately I've seen his tracks going under this backyard shed.
It was written in 1998 which was still a time when dish sets and china cabinets were prized possessions. I can't tell you how many beautiful china sets I see in thrift stores, all selling for a song these days. If you ever feel the need for such, do check out a thrift store. I'm loving the book and have no recollection of the stories at all which makes me question my memory. A.S. Byatt wrote the introduction for this book and that too is beautifully written.
I've been working on the large Christmas table runner from this book...someone asked to see it. Tending the Garden from Blackbird Designs. I like every project in this book which seldom happens.
I have the second appliqued block finished. I didn't put in as many vines as in the pattern and added more flowers. I also picked a few brighter reds. I really enjoyed stitching this block. What is it about baskets that we love?
I wonder has this happened to any of you real quilters. I'm sewing along, so very happy to have taken the time to match up and pin the block seams, thinking that this machine sewing is such a breeze I really should do more of it. I get to the end of that very long seam and realize this.
I've stitched by hand (where you know when you've run out of thread) more of the Peppermint Trees. My plan is to work solely on that project this weekend to get it moved along.
And I'm down to just 8 more EPP Starry Hexagon blocks to sew onto this piece. I'm relieved to see it is not overwhelmingly blues, being that I had so many blue fabrics to choose from. Would love to have this all sewn by the new year too.
King Arthur's flour has published their Rise & Shine: 20 Holiday Breakfasts Sure to Impress recipes. HERE is the link. I would be using some of these for dinner too.
I'll end with Ned falling asleep still holding his bone. The two of them had had a big play with it and he'd tuckered himself right out. Any second now we are going to hear a loud clunk!
I still have Christmas shopping to do. What about you?
So happy to share this post with linky parties at Kathy's Quilts, Small Quilts and Doll Quilts, Songbird Designs and Quilting is More Fun Than Housework.

I love your header! Aww the little rabbit - hope he finds plenty of food and warmth this winter. I have had 2 china cabinets in my life, both beloved, and had to sell them (voluntarily, not forced) to make more space in the house. I used to have china sets, sold those too. Now we eat on Melamine. I don't mind, but I do miss the china cabinets. Your starry hexies are so pretty. Love the photo of Ned, so sweet.
we have a couple rabbits living under the workshop I see them heading under the steps all winter almost every year some seem to live them there and we have the forest here too but they like it there. It is actually near the bird feeders so I wonder if they eat the seed that drops as well as the squirrels.
Your wintery landscape is so pretty, Jocelyn! I don't really know what rabbits eat this time of year, but that little guy must be finding what he needs in your yard. I love that basket of red flowers and also the starry hexagons - both beauties! Oh yes, I have run out of thread and just stitched along without realizing it! I did not want to "register" for china when we were getting married in 1976, and my mom just could not understand that. But now I have her both china, and my mother-in-law's in boxes in the basement. I keep thinking I should get it out and use it, but there is nowhere else to store it!
My Mum had the most beautiful china cabinet, upright, curved, glass leadlight and glass shelves, not sure where it went when they left the farm, then I had a very solid mahogany one, and yes, I had dinner sets too, I so often see whole sets in our Op Shop . No top thread, not me but the bobbin running out has happened several times. And not always in a good place. We had rabbits on the farm, no doubt they thrived in the many places to live.
You have been keeping busy with the different projects you are working on. Your sunshine and snow photos look great. I've never lived anywhere snowy so I'n not sure I'd cope very well in those conditions.
Great photo of Ned. Did the loud bone drop wake him up? Love seeing the bunny, I've not seen the ones in my yard in a few weeks. I wonder where they hopped off to? Your stars are looking great. Stay warm and enjoy your weekend.
We often have what we call Bush Bunnies running through our yard. For a couple of years Momma had her babies in our yard and we had lovely little bunnies to visit with. That does not happen so much any longer.
Ned looks so cute. Hope the bone drop didn't startle him too much.
God bless.
Jocelyn, your header is stunning. I love ❤️ all your photos and enjoy your creative talent.
The rabbits here like to eat my bushes so we put cages around some of them or they would get eaten to the ground. The rabbits, squirrels, birds and two raccoons have been sighted in our yard in recent days. Such a pretty appliqué block! Your stars are shining brightly too. Enjoy your stitching this week. Belly rubs for Ned. Gail at the cozy quilter
Beautiful post, Jocelyn! I love the bunny❤️. Your appliqué basket and hexagon Star project are both so appealing!! Looking at snow coming down outside my window right now - winter is definitely here; we do our best to adapt and make the best of it - even enjoy it at times! - don’t we?!🙂
Bunny rabbit! What a cutie. Those hexies are looking great. So many little pieces. I'm lucky as far as Christmas shopping goes - very small family, and no one wants gifts. Christmas is kind of like Thanksgiving.
The quilt is beautiful and pup is adorable. Bunny will stay where he feels the safest and that's probably at your place.
Your header is so darling. Your star/hexie quilt is looking so good!
I adore your header! I have a set of china that I inherited from my grandmother in the 80s. I rarely use it as it must be handwashed. I was just thinking that it may be time to sell/donate it as I know my children won't want it. Your applique is pretty. I always kick myself when I run out of thread mid seam and don't realize it. Your EPP project is very pretty. I love the pup and bunny photos. I still need to shop. I am somewhat stumped about gifts for a few people...even the grandkids. Have a great week!
I was surprised to learn that the rabbits and the deer change coat colors here in Florida just like they did in our central New York home! Beautiful projects!
Your rabbit friend is adorable. I imagine your yard is safer unless Ned goes after them. But rabbits do like to chew on things if I remember correctly. I hope you get your stars finished this year. It's looking terrific. It took me a long stare to figure out what went wrong. OOPS -- I have too many tales of me or friends sewing happily away only to realize we were out of bobbin thread. Haven't run out of top thread ----YET! Have a wonderful week.
You have such lovely property, Jocelyn. I can understand why the rabbit doesn't want to leave. The Blackbird Designs book looks interesting. I don't do applique' but I still all things Blackbird. I can't say I've ever run out of the top thread, but I sure have run out of the bobbin. So frustrating! My machine warns me but I always think I can get a little more out of it. Starry Hexagon is coming right along. Ned looks quite content napping with his bone. I have one more small item to get for a gift but I am waiting on two big orders to be delivered. The orders were placed three weeks ago!
What a cute bunny. Lovely to see your stars.
Oh that sweet doggie sleeping with his bone! I’ll confess that I still have a china cabinet (my Grandmother’s), but I am down to one set of nice china. That’s a sweet little bunny, and he looks well fed, so hopefully he/she is finding food somewhere. Is the English paper pieced quilt your RSC project? I have been trying to think of one for next year.
I do love your nature photographs. So different from here in Australia. Your EPP is looking beautiful as is your applique. Nothing nicer than a book you can get lost in xx
My Christmas shopping was done by mid-November but that's only because we had to get most of it out in the mail so it would arrive in time. Last week the RC and I went to Giant Tiger and got each other a couple new books and that was it. Won't see a grocery store until possibly the new year.
