It's early spring which I think in some ways is the saddest and ugliest time of the year here. There is not a single hint yet of all the glorious green to come and I've been out there looking. But more about that at the bottom of this post.
Sewing progress first... I worked on my appliqued Quarter Dresdens and finished the March reds. It will be nice to move on to pinks, the RSC April colour.
I've also spent lots of quiet time cross stitching on my current piece, What Remains is Love. An alphabet was included with the pattern so you could personlize your piece which I've begun there. The pattern has a couple of quirky things about it like that rather fanciful bird on the left.
Tony and the dogs are keeping me very busy. The appointments and meetings continue. And there's a long list of spring chores to do too. Outside, the spring season is baby stepping in. A flock of noisy Canada Geese went overhead today and early mornings I'm hearing birds twittering.
I've been chipping ice off the front steps using an axe and was proud of the little path I'd maintained all winter. Other years we would climb over it.
But then one day, Tony lost his balance when almost at the veranda and fell completely sideways. It was a miracle he didn't hit his head on the boulders that stick out from under the veranda or the ice on the other side.

Then it rained heavily for hours and hours, got about 2 inches worth- couldn't make up its mind about freezing or plain old rain. That was thanks to a Colorado low passing through...how in the world can such reach this far north! The ground is a mess but this too won't last. I'm wearing rain boots with cleats on them.
Not Afraid of Color's prompt is about dishes for the dinner. I always cook a turkey and have the usual vegetables with it. I would cook salt meat to flavour them but I can't find good salt meat here. I've done my prep for the company and have all the "good" dishes out and the table set. I did my big shop for the dinner two days ago. My turkey is thawed and stuffing made. Beth is bringing one of her cakes so it's just the turkey dinner for me to prepare.
I have lots more to share with you including new stitching projects and a new to me face moisturizer that I'm loving. Next time then! Take Care all.

So glad Tony only had his pride hurt because it could have been so much worse! Spring here has been really backward too (I don't live all that far away from you) and I'm more than ready for the cold temps to exit. Mind you, no doubt we'll soon start complaining about the heat. At least we're grateful for all the snow this winter because the water table certainly needed it.
we always think we are so careful when walking and most falls are just accidents that no matter how careful we were can't be helped. I like the fabric color you used for the stitching it makes it look antique doesn't it. I'm sorry you still have cold, ice and snow. Before you know it the flowers will be popping up. Here we have 4 cold nights again and the tomato plants are being brought back in the house - I just put them, out in the sun again for the day. I hope to plant next week if the weather looks like it will warm back up
I hate hearing that Tony fell like that - that's always so scary for all of us. So glad he is okay. It looks like spring is trying to come to you there - more melting would be welcome, I bet. Your quarter Dresdens and the cross-stitch piece are lovely. Happy Easter - enjoy your family time today!
I'm glad Tony is okay, falls can be so scary! What Remains is Love is so pretty, it does look like an antique. I like your quarter Dresdens, your quilt is going to be so pretty, happy stitching!
Glasses and all bones intact, pride gone. Hugh says when he falls he just cannot save himself. The last time was onto concrete in the garage, he yelled for me, the first thing I said " Can you move your legs" ? Yes, was the reply, then I said I'm calling the ambulance. Head scan, X-rays galore, district nurse visits for weeks after a huge haematoma on his arm.Your blocks are lovely, we are now getting dark mornings, daylight saving has ended until next spring. And the astronauts continue their journey with a toilet that does not seem to work properly!!! Just that one fact puts anything I might be worrying about into true perspective!!!
I’m so glad that Tony is ok. The ground comes up to meet us harder and faster as we get older when we fall. I’ve got my pink scraps out for some RSC blocks. Nice red 1/4 dresdens. You added lots of stitches to your sampler. Spring will come to you soon! Gail at the cozy quilter
Take heart, spring is really on its way to you. Here in western NY we have hellebores and daffodils blooming, hyacinth's and trees budding and the grass is greening up. It was 75F on Friday, but we're going back into the 30's on Tues. Windy and cloudy today.
Happy Easter to you and Tony.
Pat
Thank goodness Tony was okay! Falling stinks as I age. I could have cared less about it a few years ago, and now I think I hang on to everything and think about all the times grandma went on and on about the time she fell.
Your quarter Dresdens are gorgeous! Spring is coming...
