Turkey Photos, Winter's Palette, Fans Applique, Homemade Bagels

In honour of my American friends celebrating their Thanksgiving-

Turkeys- live ones. They trot through from time to time, no rhyme or reason for their visits.

I love their feathers and sometimes pick up one around the property.
Such large bodies; such tiny heads!

I  watched the snow falling all day long yesterday. Out every window it was the same view. Evergreens laden with white and the snow flakes drifting down. Pretty but I realized how narrow the colour palette becomes in a Canadian winter. No pinks or yellows, or blues.  It's a beautiful one in its way with all the shades of grays and greens and bits of browns. But on a gray day, not exactly cheery.

The last hurrah of the milkweed.

I was busy in the sewing room making headway with a couple of projects. The scrappy appliqued Fans are moving along with this many stitched and on the wall. I think this is my OMG for November so best get a move on.

Anybody else watching this...The Undoing starring Hugh Grant and Nicole Kidman. We've been getting a new episode a week and enjoying it very much. Is it just me or does Nicole Kidman not look like Nicole Kidman anymore.

We enjoyed a wonderful treat from Daughter. Homemade bagels with smoked salmon, cream cheese, dill and lots of capers. The bagels she made were smaller and Montreal style. That reminded her and I of our summers in Montreal when her father and I were attending McGill. After St.John's, Montreal is still both daughters' favourite city.

I made a spinach salad and we had a very yummy supper.

I hope this Thursday is a wonderful one for you. If you are in an area that is experiencing increased virus cases, please do your best to stay safe.
As it's Thursday, it is time to see what other folks are enjoying and thankful for at Not Afraid of Color. Also thankfully linking with It's a Small Town LifeWendy's Quilts and MoreViewing Nature With EileenKathy's QuiltsQuilting is More Fun Than Housework and Paying Ready Attention.

I love those long pine cones on that pine tree - we have nothing like that here but I have seen them in the northern states. We used to have a large flock of wild turkeys in our area and sometimes they would be all over the back yard - this went on for several years and then all of a sudden no more - I always wondered why they just seemed to disappear there were so many. The homemade bagels are wonderful - I used make some years ago but I haven't made them in years.

Oh my, I just love bagels cream cheese and capers too! Perhaps we are related, who knows. Certainly blogging buddies with similar tastes.

The turkeys may not be brightly colored, but they are pretty, especially the males, when he fans his tail.

Lovely to see those turkeys so close. The closest I've been is when three flew almost into our windshield...scared the daylights out of us! Those things are HUGE.
I love Hugh Grant so I will have to see if that show is available on Netflix.

That milkweed is really pretty. Your fans look great. Goodness - neither Nicole nor Hugh look like themselves! Yum... lox. Good likes!

I wouldn't have known that was Nicole Kidman if you hadn't told me! I need to check that show out. Turkeys have beautiful feathers! We were hoping for sunshine today, but didn't get any. It's been quite dreary, but we are tucked in here, making a meal together.

I always love seeing the wild turkeys! They must live everywhere - we see them here in Colorado, but I also see photos of them on many blogs. Yummy homemade bagels with smoked salmon and cream cheese. I think your daughter is a talented baker! Your fan blocks on their dark background look lovely, Jocelyn!

Love seeing wild turkeys... I am lucky and see a flock of them sometimes on my walk in Florida. I've made soft pretzels but have never tried bagels.... must try some with capers and see how they are.

Hi Jocelyn! Those handmade bagels with smoked salmon, et. al. look fabulous. What a thoughtful gift. I've never heard of The Undoing but then we don't have HBOMax. I think Nicole Kidman still looks like herself but I can't believe that is Hugh Grant!! ~smile~ Roseanne

I love these photos of yours! You have a lot of Turkeys (we are city folk, rarely see turkeys here). Love that milkweed photo! Your fans on that dark background really are wonderful! Great color choices! Stay safe dear Jocelyn! Have a wonderful day!

I can almost smell the pine cones, and I love the snow covered branches. Yes Nicole Kidman looks almost "severe" to me with her botoxed forehead and cheeks. But she sure looks better than I do - lol!

Thanks for the wild turkey pictures! I miss seeing them in the woods of North Florida.

Hi Jocelyn. I love how your fans quilt is coming along! We periodically have a couple dozen wild turkeys roaming around the neighborhood and I enjoy watching them from a distance. You're right about the limited color palette outdoors in winter, but there's a stark beauty there. Love your photos!

Hi Jocelyn :) I grew up in Montreal so I was spoiled with bagels. I live in NB now and can't find a decent one. I may try to make them at some point! Your fans are looking good! :) That photo with the turkey spreading out his tail is fabulous!

Hello,

The turkeys are cool visitors, great photos. Your fan quilt block are beautiful. The bagel and smoked salmon sound yummy. I like the little dusting of snow on the evergreens. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a happy weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.

What a treat to see your photos of the wild turkeys and the feathers are striking! The bagels look delish! Your fans are looking lovely on the dark background. We are watching The Undoing and really enjoying the twists and turns. I love Nicole's acting but I agree she doesn't look herself and even though she is a slim lady....she is positively skin and bone in recent times. I get sick of her being trotted out as the "token dinky di down to earth Aussie" lol! With her million dollar properties all over! I shall take my nasty self away now lol xx

that picture does not look like Hugh Grant! Dark winter days + time to make happy colored quilts to fill our days.

Gorgeous fan blocks. We have turkeys parading through our yard every day as they make the rounds. We just finished episode 5 of The Undoing last night. I was thinking Hugh Grant was such a scumbag. But I told my husband, I thought the son did it, and it appears he did~

Your wintry wonderland looks beautiful, but a little chilly. =) Turkeys do have lovely coloured feathers. Nature at its best, really. Oh those fans...they are stunning set against the dark background. As for your supper, it looks mouth watering. Your daughter's home made bagels sound delicious.

Homemade bagels! What a treat! Montreal is one of my favorite cities too. Occasionally we see flocks of turkeys here in Wisconsin. Our winter view is much the same as yours, snow and evergreens. It makes the inside of the house seem more warm and colorful.

I love that snowy photo. That is the epitome of winter scenes for me. Your scrappy fans are beautiful. Those bagels look tasty. Salmon doesn't go over well in our house.

I love the colours in the post - and even if you say that they are limited, they are still great.

Cheers - and stay safe - Stewart M - Melbourne

PS: the bird from my WBW last week does not make much beyond Australia!
