Cakes and Puppies, Quilted Stars and Shows to Watch

Hello all. A sincere thank you for the emails we are still receiving. All read, all appreciated and put a smile on my face. 💗

This week included good choices and some bad choices food wise.  Why did I include a party sized bag of potato chips in last week's grocery order!! Hubby couldn't believe I did that but I reminded him that we also ate a giant container of baby spinach in various dishes this week. Perhaps one will counteract the other I said, hopefully.

We did some munching while watching this great little series on Masterpiece PBS and CBC's Gem, Victoria starring Jenna Coleman. I love these period pieces- the clothes, jewelry, great houses, food, horses, etc. All of it I guess.

We  also very much enjoyed Jenna's performance in another wonderful drama series called The Cry.  It was one of those where you have no clue what is really going on. We found it on Amazon Prime.

I have not been keeping up with showing you our cakes from daughter. The coconut layers were so delicious in this one, just the right amount of sweetness. German Chocolate Layer Cake and it went perfectly with a cup of tea too.  So thankful for treats.

I don't always show my finishes especially of smaller items I make. I realized that when I found this pin cushion I'd made about four years ago from a little wool applique kit.  I think I showed the start of the stitching.

I found it amongst some wool and felt Christmas ornaments I made years back.  Kind of neat to have it in use now. A bonus, it had several of my "good" sewing needles in it... from Tulip.
I have machine stitched more Sawtooth Star blocks including these in blues...

While I have no outside bloom at all yet just lots of green shoots, at daughter's house these ground cover pretty blue squill flowers were standing out in her back yard.

I took the photo through the window because I didn't want to disturb these two, her resident mourning doves who are, no doubt, gong to be nesting nearby as mourning doves do there every year.
We have been visiting the nine Labrador puppies when they get outside play.  They are starting to play with each other, tire out easily and curl up anywhere for a nap. It is a total cuteness overload. I like that neighbourhood children are coming for little play sessions with them too, a break from the online learning (all schools are closed province wide now) and good socialization for the puppies.

With that happy photo I'll leave you this morning. Take care all as we are doing our best to ride out the continuing strict lockdown here in Ontario, Canada. For us it's not over yet by any stretch of the imagination.

Oh! I had to share your post with DH! Two of his favorite chocolate things. German Chocolate Cake with the coconut pecan frosting and chocolate lab puppies! After I showed him the puppy photo, he said he could feel their nose on his face and smell their puppy breath! Now that’s a love of puppies! Your wool pincushion is so pretty! I love pincushions!

Have a fabulous Thankful Thursday. ♥

Hi Jocelyn,
Your cake looks so yummy. I really like your little pin cushion, so cute. Your Sawtooth Star blocks are beautiful. I really like the last one. We've had daffodils, and Forsythia bloom here. Waiting on the Tulips to bloom. The Labrador puppies are really cute. And this little one looks really comfy laying on someones feet. Have a great day!

Oh my - if that puppy photo does not make people smile, I don't know what will! I'll have to look into those shows. Sorry about being on lock down still but oh so happy you get to go visit the cute puppies. Will one be going home with you?

Oh my, that puppy is adorable, Jocelyn! And I bet he is fuzzy and soft, too. Are you going to be bringing one home when they are old enough? The cake from your daughter looks yummy! Love your sawtooth stars, too. Hope you're having a wonderful day!

The puppy has the best idea of all. Think I'll go and take a nap!

Oh, that cake! How wonderful to have a daughter who regularly bakes such scrumptious goodies for you. That cute pup looks wonderful and cuddly. Are you tempted?

Yum, that cake looks good enough to eat, although I'm not a fan of coconut. Your daughter is quite the artist when it comes to frosting her delights. I'm sorry you are back in lockdown and hope there is improvement soon. We've had both shots so there's a bit of a feeling of relief, but caution is still needed as no vaccine is 100% effective. We've got hyacinths blooming and forsythia fading. Buds on the bleeding heart and dandelions in the grass. Spring will get to you soon.

Such a cute puppy picture!
Pretty pincushion and nice blue blocks.
Such an adaptable actor Jenna Coleman. We recently watched her in The Serpent. A disturbing series but very well acted.
We have 'semi lockdown' here. Basically it means schools are closed and we are 'encouraged' not to socialise. Oh and we need a good reason to travel more than 10K from home. Its very confusing. Hopefully only two more weeks.
Stay safe and well.

Oh, how much I understand you regarding the potatoe chips. Sometimes I feel the same and then I NEED something one should´nt eat but then I eat it and it feels okay, because the other days I stay smart regarding food. One bag of chips doesn´t harm you at all, but each day one bad does and this is what you would never ever do.
What a cake and what a puppy.

Good morning Jocelyn! I love your sawtooth stars! I can’t remember if you previously mentioned a specific plan for them - look forward to seeing how you put them together. That cake looks amazing! I love cake, but rarely bake them any more because it’s too much for just Al and me to eat and we each have a sweet tooth that needs to be tamed 🙂. The pincushion is lovely and the puppy is adorable. Your post was a nice way to begin my day - thank you!

Love your stars and your pin cushion! Those puppies are adorable and the cake looks yummy! I am so glad you posted the name for the siberian squill. We have them all over the neighborhood and I can never remember the name. Praying that you all can be vaccinated soon! Hugs!

I enjoy your projects. We have squills too!

What a treat to find your pincushion and needles! Your daughter has some mad skills in the cake department. Your fussy cutting just makes those stars stand out. Glad you are getting some play time with puppies - we could all use that! Sorry to hear about your restrictions. Texas has lifted theirs and our numbers have dropped accordingly. It’s time to get back to living!

Your needle work is a true work of art, as is that chocolate cake. Talent must run in the family :) Stay safe and thank you for linking up.

Squee! That puppy picture is adorable! Stares are cute. Pincushion is pretty - what a nice find. That German chocolate cake looks amazing. I first saw Jenna Coleman on Dr. Who - quite different than Queen Victoria! Lots of great stuff this week.

Hello,

I would love a slice of that cake, yum! Your daughter's puppy is adorable. Are you going to take a puppy home? The Doves are sweet. Your pin cushion is cute and I love all the quilting stars. I hope you and yours are staying well. Covid is still making the rounds here! Thank you for linking up and sharing your post! Take care, have a happy weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.

Oh my, I could get lost in that cake. Your daughters yard resembles a photo I shared last week. All of my wild violets will surely be lost tomorrow, we're expecting snow after 70 degrees today. The puppy is adorable.

Siouxzq64@gmail.com said...

Oh your cake looks yummy. Love German Chocolate! Your pincushion is gorgeous, and the puppy! Squeal! I saw a wild violet in the grass the other day. Today it is snowing. Sigh. I think a bag of chips is necessary at times, just eat a serving now and then.

Jocelyn - I will have to look for Victoria and The Cry. I love your wool applique, but that Labrador pup stole the show!

Oh, I love that puppy. Our two Lab puppies are getting so big and love to play fetch. The chocolate one would do it all day if we would play that long. Love seeing all your projects.

Cute pincushion as well!
