Autumn's Beauty, Tasty Treats, Susie's Scrappy Basket Block

The beautiful mother tree to the left side of the house...taken at dusk when the leaves had a brilliant orange glow and the blue sky turned an interesting turquoise colour. It reminded me of the strange colours old polaroid photos sometimes had.
An angle taken from the laneway, a sunny one, of this tree when the leaves have yellowed and started to fall.
It is a surprise how many people say Autumn is their favourite time of year. Living here where humidity is part of summer, I can understand it now. We'll also be happy to have the panicky feeling of violent thunder and lightening storms behind us. There were a few too many of those this last summer. And the ticks- our count was 7 between the two of us, mostly on me, luckily none attached.

Our last vegetable box had the cutest little pumpkin in it.
Going through my saved feed, I came across a neat scrappy block and surprised myself by giving it a try right away. A variation on a 9 patch block. Susie calls it Little Beauty Scrappy Baskets. You'll have to pop over to Susie's Scraps post and see her cute quilt. It's got a dainty look to it especially with using the whites. Will I make more? Yes especially because this doesn't have to be precise to keep true the look.
Beth dropped off a box of Halloween gingerbread cookies she had made with Robbie's help. They were delicious with a cup of tea. Recipe for My Favorite Gingerbread Cookies found here at Sally's Baking Recipes.
Speaking of Robbie, his hockey league is sorted and the games have begun. We have enjoyed attending two so far. Here he spots us in the crowd and gives a quick wave.
This week I kept very busy. Besides time in the sewing room, I spent time in the library, roaming a thrift store and, while parked in front of my favourite Flosstubers, slow stitching too. It is Halloween here in Canada. We don't get trick or treaters down our long laneway so other than making a loot bag for Robbie, this occasion will pass us by.
I hope you are all feeling satisfied with how your days are going, whether moving into winter or summer where you are. I especially hope for steadiness and calm south of our border for my wonderful American friends as they face their presidential election.

For us Fall brings the late year rains and storms they are welcome right now though after having been through the last couple months of very little rain and this month the forest service said that 283 fires had been fought and brought under control within 10-24 hours. We can do without that for sure. I didn't see one tick this year - I did thoroughly treat the yard and the garden though - I granular tick pellets that also helps clear out ants and other things - you spread it with a seeder that you use for grass also. I had 3 large bags and used them all - normally I do this again the late summer but never got to it this year.

My thoughts too for our friends in the US, and for everyone there. Lovely autumn colours, those deep shades when you live with colder winters than ours. Yes, we are readying for summer, the driveway was water-blasted, the winter grime gone, and yesterday two trusty helpers did the house outside walls, Well, Hugh and I were really the helpers!!!Halloween, we give that a miss, and didn't have anyone call in.

Thank you for the good wishes for steadiness and calm in our country, Jocelyn! Those are good words to describe what I hope for, too. Beautiful fall views where you live! Those gingerbread men look yummy - what a yummy treat. I like that basket block a lot. Basket quilts are a favorite of mine - I might have to try that block. So glad you get to watch your grandson's hockey games - I bet that is fun!

Beautiful tree. Ours are losing leaves faster than Alex can keep up with them! From where I sit most of the time I can see a red maple that is still clinging to its leaves.

Gorgeous colours in your yard, your veggie box and your quilt block! Most of the trees here have dropped their leaves.

Hello Joceln, you captured some wonderful snaps of Autumn's glory. Halloween passed us by too, it's not such a thing here. Although the shops are trying hard to make it so. I dont know anyone who sews Halloween quilts and decorations. Like the rest of the world, we are waiting and watching the upcoming USA election. Which incidentally falls on our wedding anniversary.

We remain hopeful about the election...saying, "May the best woman win." Anyway...those tree shots you shared are just lovely. We have mostly oranges with bits of a pink rose and yellows with some lime greens here--just so delightful...
Your little basket is so darling..looks like a fun project--Susie's Scraps is a great site...
Hugs Julierose

How lovely to see your autumn trees while we are in Spring here! I can totally understand you are relieved to have the summer storms over and done with... we are coming into a hot summer this year and terribly worried about bush fires... I LOVE that cute scrappy block!! Thanks for sharing it, I'm off to check out the tutorial! xx

Your fall photos are welcome here! We are having a brown fall, and the temperatures just a couple days ago got out of the high 80s/low 90s. And rain, for which we are very grateful! Your dainty block is pretty. I love visiting Susie's Scraps, almost always find something I have to make. Those cookies look scrumptious! How nice that Robbie waves to you. :)

I love Fall but hate that Winter will soon follow! I love that little basket block. It does have a dainty look! It sounds like you've been keeping busy. I hope you're feeling well

I love gingerbread cookies and those Halloween ones look delicious not to mention cute! I've been enjoying the way the sun plays on the colorful leaves lately too. They practically glimmer is there's a slight breeze. Thanks for sharing Susie's blog and the basket blocks. Your prototype looks great and I hope you do continue making more. I liked Susie's setting too.
