My eyes are drawn to the tops of trees these days. No leaves so I've been rewarded with a glimpse of something or other-birds, nests, etc. Lately I've twice seen a turkey way up in the branches. Especially up so high there, they look completely out of place. How do they rest that long neck I wonder. Surely it can't be comfortable. Once a week, a flock still wanders through the front yard area. And lately a small flock of Dark-Eyed Juncos has been around the feeders. They are on their southern holiday from the Arctic. What hardy birds! I liked how the shadows on the snow looked interesting in this photo.
Then it warmed up so much that the snow began to melt. That meant all these hanging snow covers on the eaves slid down and dropped. It sounded like gunfire at times; Ned would bark but then he got used to it.
Staying calm with hand stitching...I've been stitching EPP Stars in the evenings while watching tv. We just finished The Bridge which made me hate drugs all the more. What a scourge on society that illegal trade is! On a lighter note, we are enjoying this Netflix series, Zero Day, starring Robert De Niro.
I've prepped several stars in yellow which is the RSC So Scrappy colour for March. I finished one last night. Yellow will work well for the side triangles with the blues too. I don't have much yellow fabric but I am excited about using different colours now for these edge triangles.
I received my Quakers in England pattern from 123Stitch.com, who provides such wonderful service. It's a rare treat to get stitchy mail as my determination to not order any/much stitchy stuff is holding strong.
And the pretty DMC colours to use too.
You too can eat your marmalade toast off a Royal Worcester Mansfield gold trimmed dinner plate ( $30 US) if you pick them up at the thrift store for $3.99, :).
I can understand how folks are tempted to become resellers. A part of me is tempted myself if it weren't for the bit of having to deal with money. Is that something you would like to try? YouTube is full of channels of folks sharing their thrift shopping ventures and how much they later make on different items.
Though not a reseller, the most well known person in giving you an idea of what items are worth is Dr. Lori who has a PHD in Antique Appraisal. She is so knowledgeable in just about everything including purses which is covered in this video. I was very impressed that she can not only date dishes but electrical cords used on lamps. She can tell what is original to the age of the lamp, etc. Perhaps you might like to know what some item you have is worth. Pretty sure she has covered it in one of her videos.
On that happy note I'll stop blabbing on. The dryer is getting put back together as the needed part arrived and I've been giving Tony a hand-I'm a good holder-upper. Which reminds me...LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color had a prompt for this week which was what compliments you and your spouse might give each other. Tony has given me praise for how hard (he thinks) I work at everything...the house, our healthcare, my fitness, my hobbies, etc. I compliment him lots on how smart he is like being about to fix the dryer, any of our computer glitches, financial dealings, etc. He's so fortunate his brain is still sharp as a tack even though having the feeling his body is physically weakening by the day.
Robbie's hockey team is in the playoffs and we have a game tonight which we really look forward to. Hope there is something in your day to look forward to too.
Take care all of you!

Better on that beautiful plate than saving in your handbag. I see some beautiful items in our Op Shop, and wonder who they once belonged to, guess families cannot save everything when a Mum or Gran passes. Those threads, what a delight to open that parcel.
this time of winter for sure is when you don't walk too close to the house! The EPP is looking really good. I liked Zero Day but I have not seen Bridges. That stitching pattern looks interesting.
We love seeing the juncos here, too - they always show up when it's snowing. That is beautiful cross-stitch kit that you got - it looks like it will be enjoyable to work on. Glad Tony is able to fix your dryer! It is definitely handy to have a spouse who can figure out those kinds of things.
A few days ago the Mourning doves were visiting our feeder. They actually looked very well fed, but I have a feeling they had just puffed up their feathers.
God bless.
That's quite the snow shelf off the roof. I like how your stars are coming along. Ooh - those are pretty embroidery floss.
Our snow has started to melt also. It sure can get noisy! I never have as good luck as you do when antique shopping. I love the look of your EPP stars! Quakers in England is gorgeous! I've visited their website but never bought anything. Yet!!
My goodness that is a lot of snow! I can see why Ned would bark at the sound of it falling. Your stars are so pretty! What a great bargain you found on that gorgeous plate (and the toast looks good too). I used to be into buying in thrift stores and trying to sell on eBay, but I did not make money. An example: 15 years ago I bought a Christmas serving plate for $3 and intended to sell it for the $30 I would have paid for it new. It is still in my china cabinet, I can't give it up because I love it!
Lots of good news! Your EPP project is coming along nicely. Looking forward to seeing your embroidery project develop.
We sometimes have a junco stop at our suet feeder and it's always a thrill to see.
Your new cross stitch design looks like it will be great fun to work with so many little individual designs.
I've never had any interest in being a reseller because we don't have the space to store inventory and just the thought of having to parcel things up to mail is too much like work.
Hope your dryer is back up and running now.
There are juncos on the balcony outside my office as I type this. Love how they clean up after the other birds who drop seed from the feeder onto the ground. Yellow is perfect for completing the blue stars. I expect you will be sharing the finished blocks this month.
The yellow stars are so twinkly and will be a nice addition to the blue & pinks ones from the previous months. Fun cross-stitch project to work on too. Sometimes the mail brings us more than flyers & bills! Yippee! Have fun and don't stand too close to the house with those big snow sheets falling.
I'm with Nancy regarding the plate. So much better to enjoy using it. No, I couldn't be a reseller as I wouldn't want to deal with the money and shipping end of it! Also, the finding of the objects isn't exciting to me. . .I'd rather be stitching! I like your new project by the way!
Beautiful projects you are working on. We have a group of turkeys that wander through the neighborhood once a day. They make a stop at each house. Hope your dryer is back to working order.
That's a lot of snow! Your EPP are fabulous. I love the fabrics that you are using. Looking forward to following your progress on this project. Have a great day. Hugs.
Love those Stars, and I envy the snow.
Yes! Your snowy picture is lovely! I love shadowing in nature photos. I’m a bit addicted to videos showing the snow covers falling. I’ve never seen an accumulation of snow to witness them first hand.
Your stars are beautiful! Loe that yellow fabric! Wow, Quakers in England looks challenging but there is so much about Quaker life to explore. It will be lovely.
That is a lot of snow. Your EPP stars are so pretty. I really like the latest cross stitch you acquired.
Thanks for describing the sound of the falling eves overhangs. It's not something I would have ever thought about. Shocking that turkeys fly (climb?, shimmy?) up in the trees. I can remember my mom using her Limoge Haviland china for every day when my parents retired. I doubt if either my brother or I wanted it. Why not enjoy using it! Enjoy your new pattern -- the floss colors are beautiful.
You get to see TURKEYS up in your trees? I thought I was seeing majestic eagles gliding through the sky over my back yard in Florida... Then we found the dead opossum behind the garden shed and I realized those giant birds were black vultures :-(. Not as much fun at all!! I love your EPP stars and they remind me (gulp!) that I was planning to hand piece stars like that for RSC this year. I bought my little diamond templates and kitted everything together, and then I completely forgot all about it as I was distracted by the moving and remodeling saga. There's always RSC 2026, right?
Snow melting is good news, Spring is coming ;) I love your EPP stars, and the stitching pattern looks pretty too. Beautiful DMC colours! Thank you for sharing and linking up, and stay away from your roof sides!
