It still amazes me when I read your blogs where in your corner of the world, summer is now in full swing with the flowers and leafy trees and blue skies. I look out on blue skies too like today...
But it is still very cold staying well below freezing. This turkey gang appeared late one day. I counted 17 scattered about, the largest number ever to grace our garden. One male and I guess you could say his harem.
Deep into winter now and I couldn't have a better excuse to stay inside and slow stitch. So I've been moving along a couple of hand stitched projects. Embroidery was one of my first loves in the stitching world...I had one of those Dimensions kits of flowers in a field with me when I moved into university residence back in 1968. That one used crewel wool which I used a lot in those days. Back to the present and here is my progress on one of the Snow Days motifs.
Someone asked- I use those needles pictured mostly - I can buy them at Walmart. I'm not particular about needles but prefer a shorter one overall for embroidery.
And my cross stitched Cozy Into Winter is moving along too. There is space beneath the basket to stitch a message. The pattern has three rows/bands of motifs there but maybe it would add interest to have words instead.

I just have to highlight the talents of one of our blogging friends, Gwyned Trefethen. Check out her beautiful little framed attic scenes featuring vases of flowers and blue skies. Link to her post is Here. Actually I'm in awe of all the talented stitching I see when I visit your blogs.
*About my last post- Thank you so much for your wonderful comments. Yes, as some guessed, all the stars shown were made from men's thrifted shirts. Thank you for sharing your favourite/prettiest quilt pattern too. It made for very interesting reading.

It seems like just a couple years ago that they re-introduced wild turkeys and now you see them all the time. The first ones we saw were up on HWY 11 and they flew mere inches from our car windshield. Scared the living daylights out of us!
I love both your stitching projects and that quote too.
Take care of you!
I love Gwyned's posts too as I also enjoy yours! Your ross-stitched bouquet is really springing to life and looks so pretty. Have you started the piecing on Snow Days yet? Can't wait to see that one come together!
Sunny days with blue sky and snow IS beautiful. Here it's just hot, hot, hot and humid. Love your progress on Snow Days. It's such a beauty. I'm stitching Over the River, I need to take a progress photo. Beautiful cross stitching and the quote too.
Enjoy your slow stitching time... we dont have snow so I enjoy the pictures you shared... And turkeys in your backyard... Canada must be an amazing place to be. Here we have also wintertime and I love to spent time inside... Not only my stitches are slow but life as a whole is slowing down in wintertime.
wild turkeys and winter scenes are perfect. Here it is up and down one 50 then 70 then next week back in the 40's. My father and mother used to mention they grandparents comments of Canadian winters - all of my great grandparents on both sides of my family came from Quebec and didn't move to the states until the 1890's-1900
So far no wild turkeys in my little area. Pheasants, coyotes, and the occasional cougar though. I love your stitching, you take such uniform stitches.
God bless.
Years ago when Hugh had a cartage business, he delivered pellets to a Turkey Farmer. He farmed them on what was a large scale back then in the 1970's. So good to see them in your yard. Love the stitching, and winter, a time to enjoy inside stitching, and thoughts of spring. Down here, I realise I need to start thinking about winter firewood orders, and over the other side of Canada, Josh has snow downtown in Vancouver, and skiing at Cypress. Just 30 minutes drive, so much easier than hours of travel here in NZ, unless you live a lot
It's not easy to still your thoughts when your mind is wobbling. But you are aware of what's happening so that must be a good thing. Sadly, there is plenty to worry about these days, our own concerns, plus those of the world. And my mind is all over the place with losing Robin. At least we have our stitching, knitting, handcrafts and the blogging world to keep us centered. Do hope you are feeling a little better today.
