A few photos of a reluctant spring here..
The largest turtle I've seen at our little pond.
Then I realized he wasn't alone. There must be others about too.
I've pulled a few fabrics to work on Block 2 of Liberty's Birds.
This is perhaps my favorite block. Do you think that is the glorious eagle? And one of my favourite motifs, a wreath is on this Block 2 which is called Justice's Wreath.
To do with cross stitching, I did a test using one strand of thread over two as suggested by readers. I like the look and it provides enough coverage but, my, using one strand of embroidery thread is so fine and tiny.

My Big News!
I went on a little Mother's Day getaway...two nights in a hotel downtown Ottawa, Chateau Laurier. I'd dug out my old suitcase and even older spring coat, which, considering the rather cool temperatures, I needed. I had to put them out on the back deck to air out...goodness knows what our basement would smell like to others!
That coat which is more grey/beige than the photo is showing, is so old- at least 12 years. Though the sales lady at the time told me it was classic, I wonder if it is still so. But then women over 40 are supposed to be invisible, so it wouldn't matter what I've got on. I wouldn't have given this a thought but the downtowns of cities are where the really cool people are. You know the ones who dress in black. The last time I was in downtown Toronto I couldn't get over the number of young people dressed in fancy sports like gear. I noticed that's where the thin people are too. Anyway, such it was.
Two things I took with me for down time in the room...
This book, the Booker Prize winning The Wren, The Wren by Anne Enright. I think I got to read three pages.
And for stitching- something with few bits and bobs to keep track of...the Floralies embroidery project. Never got to take this out of the suitcase but comforting to know it was there.đ
In my absence, Tony was well looked after by SIL Brad and Robbie, so no worries there. And he is quite trustworthy in regard to not endangering himself by trying to do something heroic like climb on the roof or even a ladder, for that matter.
I will share some photos of my little getaway next time. Thank you for all the comments on the dresses I shared in the last post. And a Belated Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful mothers and grandmothers too.

that is nice that you had a little get away sounds nice looking forward to hearing about it.
The turtles are out sunbathing here too. Hope you had fun in Ottawa! Itâs a great city to visit. Lots to see and do. You must have been busy if you didnât do any stitching and only a few pages of reading. Gail at the cozy quilter.
Those are beautiful daffodils, Jocelyn, and love seeing the turtles, too! The next birds block looks like a lovely one to work on. Sounds fun to go away for Mother's Day weekend - I'll enjoy hearing about what you did. I do think your Spring coat is a classic - those are timeless!
Sounds like you had a busy time if you only read three pages and did not a single stitch.
How fun to have a getaway! All my coats have to be at least 20 years old - who knows if I'm in style or not! They're comfortable. Your embroidered flowers will be pretty!
Ah, late spring gives you extended time with daffodils, ours have faded into nothingness, but lilacs are now in full bloom. We have occasionally seen a large turtle in the far back yard, near the creek, usually in June. We think perhaps it was laying its eggs for the season, though we've never spotted any young'uns later in the season. A beaver has been lurking in the creek by a downed tree, possibly beginning a new home, preferably not a dam! Glad you had the opportunity for a fun get-away, looking forward to hearing more about it!
How wonderful to have a weekend get away, presumably with your daughter. As a former caravanner, any nights spent in a hotel, or even a motel, are such a treat. I'm waiting excitable to see what you got up to. I had a Mothers Day lunch with my daughter, and my son phoned me from the South Island, so I was happy. As happy as I can be without Robin by my side, I guess.
PS. Who cares about being in style or not? Comfort is the key these days. And that's why we cant trip about in heels as we used to, speaking for myself, it's been flat shoes for quite some time, the others upset my back and hips.
Your get away sounds absolutely lovely. I have heard wonderful things about that hotel.
God bless.
I have to say I don't pay much attention to what is in "fashion" these days. I tend to wear my clothes until they are shabby looking. I have a spring coat that is way older than that. On the other hand I haven't worn it in years as it hasn't been needed. Va is pretending it's summer already. Your embroidery project is glorious...I love the colors.
It's so nice you got away for Mother's Day! I hope you had a great time. As long as you were comfortable, I'm sure your clothes were perfect!
a nice little respite and getaway is good for everyone...
Wow that is a big turtle! I love that you had a getaway. I laughed out loud at " women over 40 are supposed to be invisible" - I feel the same - lol!
That turtle is amazing! I personally donât worry too much about fashionable clothes. I worry more about comfort and being warm enough! I hope you will post some more details about your trip.
I always enjoy seeing your nature photos. Sounds like a nice getaway...I look forward to hearing more.
Sounds like you had a lovely getaway and in such a nice hotel too. I remember seeing inside their lobby at one point and that I thought it was pretty impressive.
To me, classic means it is always in style. I would wear that jacket. Btw, I think you are a very classy lady who lives the best life ever in the country. City goers may not even know what they are missing. (wink)
