I've made the list and in my case, I've had to check it not twice but three times. I've been wrapping and making note of what's for who, etc. I'm trying not to do what Mom always did and that was to find presents tucked away in a drawer somewhere the next July. Does that happen to you?
I worked really hard to get this Peppermint Trees quilt top to this stage with all the trees appliqued and outlined in blanket stitch. The trunks are not stitched down yet. I had to take it outside to photograph; it's too dark these days inside. So here it is on the front veranda in the snowy light. HERE is the link to Helen's Etsy shop and the pdf download of her pattern if you'd like to check it out.

| The little garden girl on a swing was a gift to me from Robbie. |
I've made it longer to suit a spot over the long stairwell. And my plan is to sandwich this and ready it for quilting as soon as I can. In the original design, Helen used straight lines around the trees in each block which looked great and is so doable for me so I will try to do the same.
And I've also been hand stitching more quilting lines on Christmas Presents too. Some of these fabrics are so pretty and have splash of gold too.
I'm halfway down the quilt, rolling it as I go which is not ideal but semi working for me. I do love the hand quilting part but the wraggling of something this size is difficult. This experience is making me wonder if you should look into getting a quilting frame.
I'm using DMC perle 8 in a variagated mint green to stitch the quilting lines.I've been enjoying a Youtube channel called Rowsells Everyday Off Grid in NL. I especially love Diane's baking videos. In this one below, she made two favourite cookies/squares/slice -whatever you call them in your part of the world. I like her enthusiastic and down to earth attitude. I wonder what you think of her kitchen; it looks so eclectic and I really like it.
`
The first one she makes, the Five Star cookie/ bar, is very popular in Newfoundland and is so easy to make. Perhaps there is another name for this particular treat in other places. It uses Aero bars for the topping.
LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color's prompt this week was do we like the colours red and green. They certainly are the traditional Christmas duo aren't they. Yes, I like them, especially the vintage kind of shades. And here is a welcome red I love to spot. The male Cardinal visited one of the feeders while the female stayed on the ground below. I wonder are they the same pair I'm spying all the time.
Winter chores have kicked in- shovelling snow, throwing deicer on the front steps- we had four large bags delivered, and my favourite chore, refilling the feeders. And I'm off to walk the dogs now, another favourite activity here at the wooden house. And Petey senses when that time is. He's a dog that looks you in the eye with such pleading stares. Who could resist this?
Hope this time of year on the very cusp of Christmas is going well for all of you and you don't feel rushed. That it is "the most marvelous time of year" for you. Happily sharing this post with Alycia Quilts, The Inquiring Quilter, Days Filled With Joy and Creations Art Quilts.

Your Peppermint Trees quilt is so pretty! Speaking of hiding gifts, my oldest brother used to bring his gifts for his wife to our house when I was growing up (and even after I left!) so that she wouldn't find them and open them. And yes she searched high and low until she found them at their house, so he had to get them out of their house. I never understood that - I love being surprised! I Googled Five Star bars and boy do they look good. I had never heard of Aero bars, but now I want some of those too. :D
Those peppermint trees are so nice, will you be adding a border? I like red and green for Christmas and my earlier quilts had these colours. The later, I found myself drawn to the not so bright shades, or burgundy and dark forest green. Guess that shows how our tastes change over time.
I don't often forget that II have gifts hidden away but it has happened once in awhile. I've learned to keep a list in my diary of what I have for each person and before I start to wrap I check it and then go on a hunt to locate things.
the tree quilt is looking good. I think I got my quilting frame if I remember right because the big quilts were getting too hot to hold on my lap all year round for quilting - but it does get some getting used to if you get a floor standing frame. No snow shoveling or deicer here right now - 60 degrees today and 70 on Christmas the weatherman says - the cold front is gone and it feels like spring for the week - I'm sure cold will come back to push the New Year in
Peppermint Trees is such a pretty quilt, Jocelyn - I love those colors! I clicked over to Helen's site and can see why you were drawn to that quilt. Quilting on Christmas Presents looks great, too. Thank you for sharing the beautiful red of the cardinal at your feeder - they are such a treat to see because we don't get them out here. He is very Christmas-y! Enjoy your walk with Petey - he definitely looks like he can not be resisted!
I usually remember all the gifts now, but sometimes I have them hidden so well they are hard for me to find. Found the pajama bottoms I had made for Harvey in a place I would never have thought of looking.
I love those peppermint trees. So pretty. The present quilt is going to be just lovely.
God bless.
I try to remember where I've hidden the gifts but a do forget a few sometimes! I love your cardinal! What a great picture! Your peppermint trees looks great! Your quilting looks great on the present quilt.
I really like the peppermint trees! The Christmas present blocks look great, too!
It can be challenging trying to wrangle a quilt while hand quilting. Your Christmas presents quilt is looking amazing though and you are moving right along. I love the colors in Peppermint Trees- sweet as can be.
Your Peppermint Trees are really cute, Jocelyn! I'm tempted, but I have way too many UFOs to deal with. Love how you are quilting Christmas Presents. I haven't baked anything yet, I'm thinking about a couple of different cookies to bake, I shall see. No snow here; hot, rain showers and humid, but still bearable.
Petey is not shy about telling you what he wants! You can see his love for you in his eyes!
I love your peppermint trees! Hand quilting is such a relaxing activity at this time of year.
That kitchen looks like love is cooked into everything she makes. Gail at the cozy quilter
I love the Peppermint Trees and the Gift Quilt! Your hand quilting looks wonderful! I think you could keep the tree quilt up all year long! It's so pretty! Petey is cute ! Our dogs sure know how to guilt us! Stay warm and safe!
I love your peppermint trees quilt. I have seen something similar made in patchwork but appliqué is quite the ambitious project! I love the look on Petey's face and can only imagine how he usually gets his way. Merry Christmas to you and Happy New Year.
All the best for the season! You are kept busy. I'll bet it keeps you out of trouble!
Ohh I like peppermint Trees!!! and yes!!! One year I hid a present so well - I couldn't find it until august... I was so sad!!!! Enjoy Petey and his walks!
