Six or So Stitchy Projects

Here is my kitchen window very peaceful winter view as it will look pretty much now until April. The light is from the big garage and you can see the snow curtain we have from the snow sliding down the roof.

My bigger bunny is still here. Though he spends time under the feeders, he also munches on the left over garden growth which I purposely leave till spring to clean out. What exactly he is finding to eat there, I'm not sure.
He'd better be careful though as a Barred Owl flew low over my head one morning as I walked to the garage. He'd been eyeing the feeders. I was disappointed I hadn't spotted him from the window to get a photo.

Lately I've been knitting in the evenings in front of the tv. My afghan is this long now.

Using this stitch combo means it looks the same on the back as the front and it's good for an afghan to be reversable. I'm planning to crochet an edging around it when I get it to a certain length. The wool is from a special project by the Yorkshire Spinners. One pound is donated to the Breast Cancer Society for each ball sold. I'm alarmed by the numbers of young women being diagnosed with this awful disease.

I've stitched more quarter Dresden blocks using blues for backgrounds. These are so enjoyable to hand stitch and work up very quickly.

And there are several possible ways to join them. I have plenty of time to give that a good think.
Today I'm devoting my sewing room time to finishing the Christmas Tablecloth. I'm very close and I'd love to have it off the plate for now. Here is a photo of the right side still being organized. As usual I have a couple orphan blocks that I used in it too.
I have plans to try another patchwork block that could work with the RSC, one that doesn't involve hand stitching. My scraps are alarming me again and I need a project that could use just them. I have one in mind that I'll share next time.
I wound up enjoying the hand quilting on the Christmas Presents quilt in the end. I laid it out on the kitchen island to check if I'd missed a spot.
I haven't bound it yet but I'm pleased to have the quilting on it all done. I have a number of very old projects that I'd love to get to the finish line so I'm going to layer up another flimsie to have all ready in my rotation to hand quilt.

I like the idea of the Daily Devotional Stitching project. Choosing a small item to stitch by hand certainly is right up my alley. The point is to use the stitching process as an intentional meditation or a prayer. Being such a loner and living with a partner who is not talkative- never was, not even in the best of times, I spend a lot of time in my own head as it were. But I can always be more intentional about those ramblings, that's for sure. You can read more here at  Sibyl's Journal.

I'm just in from my morning walkabout with the dogs. It is invigorating and being able to use more of the trails with them being flattened by the snowmobile is wonderful. It's all good here at the Wooden House these first few weeks of the brand new year. I hope you all are finding it the same.

P.S. I will speak to LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color's prompt about calendar usage in the next post.

Lovely to see the bunny. Snow does bring a sense of peace with it. Lots of lovely projects to work on. The Afghan will keep you warm while you work.

That is a beautiful view you have there, Jocelyn, and I love the snowy bunny! Your quarter dresdens are calling to me - they are so pretty with the white on blue. I have a tiny Dresden ruler and a mini charm pack which might work for a small project. I think I'll try that. Both the blocks for the Christmas tablecloth and the Christmas presents quilt are looking lovely!

You have so many lovely projects underway, Jocelyn. Your dresdens are very pretty. The Christmas tablecloth has some nice blocks in it, too. Love the view from your kitchen window, and the bunny is so cute.

Certainly a peaceful, snowy view from your kitchen window, Jocelyn! Even your rabbit is dressed in snow. I like your colourful and reversible afghan. So satisfying to knit something warm during winter months. And the yarn purchase supported a good cause.

your afghan looks about the same size as mine I like the rhythm of knitting while I watch Netflix or listen to a book it is soothing. I wonder what the top of that first photo was - it looked at first like it was out of focus until I read what it was. Such a pretty picture from the kitchen window. We are to get snow/ice/sleet this weekend starting Friday night maybe and frigid cold maybe to 0 at night unusual for us.

Well done on the crafting. I really like the Dresden blocks. The colours of that yarn in the afghan is so cheery.

God bless.

The Christmas presents quilt is just about done, ready to display come December . It looks great! Nice knitting project for these cold days. Your other Christmas quilt is coming together nicely and I love those dresdens! You look out on a winter wonderland. We are expecting a big dump of snow on Sunday. I have lots of projects to keep me busy! My scraps are in constant need of taming!

I am chuckling at your scraps alarming you. I live in fear mine will take over - lol! I dearly love your Dresdens - all your projects are just beautiful. The bunny is so sweet. I'm worried about outdoor animals and wildlife with our upcoming winter storm. And folks who live alone. :(

Oh Jocelyn! That photo out your Kitchen window!!!!! To see that every day, day after day……how different a place I live in! We’re getting ready for several days of below freezing weather and we have warnings and alerts and rushes to the grocery store! We are spoiled with our normally mild weather. I like your Dresden blocks and I love the afghan you’re knitting. Carol in Texas

I commiserate with scraps taking over. I look forward to seeing what you choose to do for RSC. I keep telling myself to find a block that I can actually use some of the scraps I have. I haven't committed to one yet. Need to make a decision soon!

The view from your kitchen window is so peaceful! I love those Dresden blocks, I may have to try that myself. I am also knitting these days, seems the thing to do when it’s cold outside. My goal is to use up as many bits and bobs as I can until March. We’ll see how that works out!

Your dresden blocks remind me of my grandmothers who both used that design often in their quilts.
The snow view is pretty but I really would rather see it in the summer. We managed to dodge the big snowfall over the weekend and only got a small amount - not like Toronto, luckily.

Lovely winter view. Those quarter dresdens stitched on the blue - really pretty blocks!!

Alles wat ik nu doe is makkelijker voor me sinds de dag dat ik Dr. Wale ontmoette. Ik ben hier om al het goede dat hij voor me heeft gedaan te bedanken. Vorig jaar, in 2025, wilde mijn man scheiden zonder ruzie te maken.
