Halloween Colours, Poetry, Tiny Yellow Triangles, A Show to Watch

Dylan Thomas

                                       Especially when the October wind

with frosty fingers punishes my hair,

Caught by the crabbing sun I walk on fire

And cast a shadow crab upon the land

No shadow crab cast that day. Hubby and Murphy enjoy one of our daily walks in cloudy weather. Someone asked and yes, we walk no matter the weather. We have all the gear.

Suddenly it seems, all our trails are leafy ones.

And wild autumn New England asters are everywhere! From this meadow area, our trail leads through those trees to the left of the white birch branch, an area peppered with the lilac coloured flowers.

And our hardy perennial, purple asters in the back yard...last year's photo but ditto for this year.
|Wearing their Halloween colours, these two Milkweed Tussock Moth caterpillars are doing their seasonal walkabout in search of milkweed and they won't have far to go because there's lots around here.

The Wooly Bear Caterpillar also sporting oranges and black. I keep finding them on stone walkways and have to move them to foliage.

Soothing myself with watching for the umpteenth time this version of Pride and Prejudice on BritBox. I don't think the Bennet sisters were ever better portrayed than in this particular series. Jennifer won a BAFTA TV Best Actress award for her role as Lizzie.

And also loving the Jane Austen fabric line from Riley Blake Designs. Did you know Jane was a quilter? This is a great short video of Jane's hand stitched coverlet and an introduction to the reproduction fabrics to recreate it.

Finding comfort in this itty bitty thing... clean sheets. I know it is too small to talk about but I am ridiculously happy getting into a bed with clean sheets.

Also enjoying a little machine stitching this week. Lots of Tiny Triangle blocks.

Sewed more of the yellows together.
Since this is October's colour at So Scrappy, I'm happy to coordinate with that link up for once. In this photo contrasting with some of the blues though the lighting in the sewing room doesn't do them justice.
I've learned something new recently about myself. I am missing the gardening for the mind/thought soothing effect it had on me. I guess it is true that you cannot worry while working in a garden. Probably it helped me stay light and positive throughout the worse days of the quarantine and for that I'm thankful.

Lots of pretty purples mixed with your fall colors there, Jocelyn! We walk in every weather, too. Those are very interesting caterpillars! I love how your triangle corner blocks are going together, too - they are fun with all their scrappiness!

Oh, what colorful caterpillars! We have black ones, but not orange and black! I like your tiny triangle quilt. It’s going to be so pretty. We don’t walk outdoors in the icy weather. I’m hoping we can walk at our Rec Center when the weather gets treacherous. It’s much more fun, to be outside!

being in nature is healing... we walk every day in every weather too. The pics of caterpillars is simply amazing... those tufts are a miracle of design. Betcha some clothing designer could take inspiration from those... I wouldn't mind a coat of those tufts!Do you ever bring any potted flowers inside for the winter? I wondered if it would work. Hi Jocelyn! I just love most things from Riley Blake and these Jane Austen fabrics don't disappoint at all. And clean sheets! I am definitely in the love clean sheets club. Especially if they have been hung outside and are slightly stiffish. Ahhh. That smell is just divine. ~smile~ Roseanne

Your fall colors sure are pretty, ours aren't even close yet. Those wooly caterpillars look like winter is coming!

I agree on so many things. I miss that peace while gardening. I greatly appreciate clean sheets and actually look forward to them the first nite. Probably because making the bed is a back killer for me even more since I added the new mattress topper! It’s the little things. Those lavender and purple flowers are so pretty. No wonder you walk everyday!

I love walking in all weather but hard rain - light rain is ok. I don't mind walking in winter weather here at all as daytimes are normally in the 40's-50 in the winter - but the 30's are too cold for now I'm not used to walking in that anymore. I love those caterpillars

I'm going to look at that Jane A. fabric. We just watched Sense and Sensibility with Emma Thompson....one of our favorites! And I love your outside Fall scenes! It's SO beautiful with the leaves on the ground. Enjoy your day! It's in the 80s here...our low was 72...not very Fall like! lol

You know the weather is predicted by wooly worms. I can never remember what the width of the color bands means, though!

Those caterpillars, very showy!! We are watching the real life program " Alone " 10 intrepid people in the north of the Northwest Territory, hoping to last 100 days and get the 1 million dollar prize.Fascinating, scary, and they all need to be resilient, able to be on their own, and kill to eat to live.Love your yellows inside and purple outdoors.

I loved that version of Pride and Predijuce too, after all, Colin Firth was a magnificent Mr Darcy, swoon!
Thanks for the link to Jane Austins quilt fabrics. And your walk through your property looks wonderful, lovely trees everywhere and the path carpeted with fallen leaves.

I love your nature photos. They're always beautiful. Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth is my all time favorite! I have a quilt book featuring Jane Austen quilts but I'm not sure if they're authentic or just inspired by her. I love the quilts in that book.

What a lovely walking area you have! That version of Pride & Prejudice is hands down, the best. And Colin Firth is THE Mr. Darcy. Oh yes - clean sheets, especially when they've been hung on the line in the fresh air!

What a fantastic set of outdoor photos. So pretty. I really like your diamond blocks.

I regularly re-watch both the Pride & Prejudice series and the movie with Keira Knightley. We also watch Sense & Sensibility (Emma Thompson) frequently, although I admit the character of Marianne gets on my nerves. ;-) Must check out those Jane Austen repro prints. I totally agree about getting into bed between clean sheets too. It's finally starting to look and feel like fall around here. Our cloudy skies have returned and the temps have fallen to more normal levels. Hurray!

I noticed the wild asters in the field I am letting go back to nature today. I never realized how very popular Jane Austen and especially Pride and Prejudice are. I have read several novels where Jane Austen, her life, her writing have played a part. Love your quilt blocks. I agree nothing like clean sheets. So question do you iron your sheets before you put them on your bed?

Such a lovely place to walk. I love this version also of P&P....never tire of it! The Jane Austen fabrics look so lovely. I don't think you can beat fresh sheets straight from the line....you can smell the sunshine. Lovely sewing also x

Those leaf strewn paths look just wonderful.

Loving the blue and yellow project.
All those leaves on the ground. It must be lovely to walk in the autumn woods.

Beautiful nature photos, cute squares. And I absolutely agree about clean sheets. It's the small things in life that we appreciate that come together to make it wonderful.

Such lovely caterpillars, I have never seen this kind myself before.

Great post! I love the Pride and Prejudice you love too! I'm feeling what you do about missing gardening. Fortunately, I have a summer of neglecting my home so now I am doing fall cleaning. It is helping for now. Your tiny triangle blocks are really looking wonderful! Have a safe and happy week!

You are blessed to have such a beautiful place to walk! Yes on the clean sheets, such a good feeling. I love the colors and design of your Tiny Triangles. I am missing gardening too. Didn't do much before we moved and it was heart-wrenching to hear that the new owners are going to put a swimming pool where my garden was. The butterflies will miss the zinnias. :( But I am already planning my garden here, and it is exciting.

Lovely weather and scenery for walking! We're unseasonably warm this week--something I find depressing, esp since I actually had to flip the A/C on (and I'm pretty die-hard about that but sitting by a hot iron in the sewing room and 84 degrees in the house...). Certainly this is the last of it; next week drops back down. I agree--that BBC version is the best and I've watched it a bajillion times. Poor hubs can't stand it, saying the mother is too annoying and I tell him that's the whole point! LOL

Those milkweed caterpillars look as though they're made of thread...very cool. Must be something about sheets because I changed ours this morning and we'll be sleeping in cozy flannel tonight.

Those caterpillars are amazing! I too love clean sheets - nothing nicer than clean crisp cotton sheets! Your yellows are looking good. xx

I used to love the crunch of the fall leaves when I lived up north. Clean sheets - reminds me I need to throw mine in the wash today! Love your corner triangle project - great color combo of yellow and blue.

Autumn is a perfect time of year for walks...the color is gorgeous, but not as muddy as spring...and the air is definitely more comfortable than Summer. Love that little quilt! The pop of yellow in each square makes it sparkle!

Thank you so much for all your lovely photos! I'm another big fan of the Colin Firth version of Pride and Prejudice, and I love the Jane Austin quilt. Your tiny triangles are really coming along, as is the lovely hst border. Have a good week!

I just do not have a good day without my walk, although your scenery is much prettier than South Texas - Can you believe it was 103 yesterday! Today hotter - where is Fall? I hope we do not have a hot winter. Hugs

Your fall photos are wonderful, Jocelyn. We had just a few more summer like days this week, not too hot, but warm enough to throw on a pair of shorts for one more day of sunshine. The nights are now in the 40's though so the leaves are changing fast now, it has been beautiful to watch. I LOVE the BBC Pride and Prejudice...we bought it and watch it every 12-18 months. It is so well done! I am going to check out those Jane Austen fabrics, thanks!

Hello,
Your walk looks pretty, I am sure your Murphy enjoys all the walks. Both caterpillars are colorful, I have not seen the Milkweed Moth caterpillar. The flowers are pretty, purple asters are lovely. The triangle quilt is looking very pretty. Thank you for sharing your post. Enjoy your day, wishing you a great new week! PS, I appreciate the comment and visit.

I just have to say that going to bed on clean sheets is just one of the greatest simple pleasures. If they have been dried outside, it is even better.

I love your quilt...

When I got home to Canadain July after six months of self isolation in the States I cleaned up my containers and float garden. Then we started going out in our ocean boat for short trips so I let gardening go. Then I fell and broke my little finger. Now I can't garden until it heals and all of my work has been replaced with beds of volunteer allysum and mint gone wild. My only consolation is it Will be easier to pull in the spring and for now it is something green to look at. - Margy
