Three Free Patterns, 25 No Bake Cookies and Squares, Friendship Star Blocks

A November pond view, the day before our snow fall.

Yes, it snowed overnight Monday into Tuesday and we have a couple of centimeters on the ground. The pond was caught over with ice this morning. The air was cold and crisp on our walk. Here is Ned relaxing with Tony but with an eye on the door. A squirrel ran across his veranda. How dare it!!

LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color's prompt this week is to share a favourite dish for Thanksgiving, that would be the great American Thanksgiving which is coming up.  I cook a traditional Newfoundland dinner for our Thanksgiving which always includes boiled buttered cabbage, mashed potatoes and turnip. Do you have certain dishes that are a must for this big dinner?

And with good eating in mind, I will share this link which is a great one for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.  25 No Bake Christmas Cookies and Squares from Newfoundland's own Rock Recipes,

I've sewn six more of the Friendship Star blocks. The supply of super brights is limited. I have a few Kaffe prints around here somewhere so I must have a further dig.

Several have asked...The redwork squirrel in the header photo is a Kathy Schmitz design and may be still available at her site, Kathy Schmitz.  Linda,  The Texas Quilt Gal, just gave me the heads up that Kathy has a 20% off Sale this week.

Thursday's Three Free

At the wonderful Cluck Cluck Sew Shop you will find the free PDF for this project called No Points Star Quilt. What a great Christmas project!

At the site  Block Crazy, there are 12 free patchwork block patterns

like Rail Fence Flag

And 10 or so free applique quilt block patterns like this one called Xmas Tree.

For my cross stitching buddies, I enjoy looking through the DMC Fabulous Bank of Free Patterns including this one called Christmas Baubles. This one is so pretty.

Thank you for weighing in on issues each week with your wonderful comments, suggestions and queries. They enrich my life just like I know writing this blog and all the bits and bobs associated with it are also enriching me mentally. I think, LOL.

So dear readers in this hemisphere, stay warm and away from icy surfaces and you wonderful folk in the other hemisphere, stay cool, hydrated and revel in the warmth!

We had visiting Canadian friends just leave and head for home, we have more snow than they do! We receive lake effect snow from Lake Michigan, they're on the north side of Lake Erie and don't get hit by lake effect.

Something that is a must at our Thanksgiving table is sweet potato souffle` and Bob Andy pie which is a kind of sugar cream pie made with brown sugar, very rich!

Good morning! Oh, Neddy - keep an eye on the squirrel. He brought a huge smile to my face. There wasn't much relaxing going on in that particular moment - HAHA. I just LOVE your friendship stars. Each one of them appeals to me, and I'm a huge fan of brights. Good thing I don't have to select a favorite. It has snowed here, too, and is quite chilly with strong winds. It makes me very thankful to have a nice warm house and food to eat. Blessing abound. Happy Thursday to you! {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

Lovely thoughts of you up North, and as for us down here, torrential rain for a short while yesterday, and this afternoon another very heavy burst for an hour later on.keep dry and warm is my motto for the day!! Perfect place for a dog to be on the alert, even the deck is a NO GO area in his eyes.

we usually do the smallest turkey I can find, bread stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy - a dish of cranberry, a vegetable and pumpkin pie
the pond is actually looking great on that gray day you show

That no bake cookie link is dangerous! I think I might have to try a version of those Canadian bars this week.... or get the kids to try one! That moose one is intriguing! Favorite dish at Thanksgiving is the stuffing for me with a little gravy on top. I'd be happy with just that and mashed potato's on my plate for the meal. My Mom always boiled the turkey innards with an onion and a stalk of celery, then ground the cooked meat up and added it to the stuffing. Yummy.

Our Thanksgiving menu always includes Mama Stamberg's Cranberry Relish. (Listen to this year's rendition here: https://www.npr.org/2022/11/18/1135751773/susan-stamberg-cranberry-relish-thanksgiving)

Thanks for the pattern links. (As though I need more ideas!)

Ned is really alert to those squirrels! Thx for the DMC link - you and others add more Squirrels to my chest of projects! I love your Friendship Stars! Stay warm. We are enjoying cool 40's and 50's and after 100's for 6 month I welcome it, but I know the snow is very hard on you and the Northern part of USA! Hugs

The No-Points Star quilt would really be pretty in any colorway but is especially pretty for Christmas. And your stars are looking really bright & beautiful!

Oh, Ned is so handsome! 🥰 I love Kathy Schmitz designs! For thanksgiving we always have stovetop cornbread stuffing and homemade cranberry sauce along with the usual turkey 🦃, vegetables and pumpkin 🥧 pies 🥰

That’s a wonderful photo of your pond. What a peaceful place to be. Thanks for the link to no baking cookies. Our oven is on the fritz and I so want to make cookies. And your friendship stars, so lovely and colorful!

Thank you for the link to the no bake cookies. I can't wait to have a look around! Love the bright friendship stars! I love turnips but I'm the only one who likes them so I don't make them very often.

I love cabbage and your Thanksgiving dish sounds wonderful! I've made the star quilt from Cluck Cluck Sew and loved the pattern. Have another on my to-do list for 2023! We haven't had snow yet but the temps have plummeted here. Wishing you a great weekend and thanks for the free patterns! Hugs!

I find it so interesting to learn about traditions of other places. Boiled buttered cabbage and mashed potatoes and turnip is something that seems so normal to you. And, neither is something that I've ever tried.

My dish that we need to have at Canadian Thanksgiving is of course turkey.

Thanks for the link to the Christmas cross stitch.

God bless.

is that dish called colcannon? It sounds delicious, whatever it's called. Did you know Kathy Schmitz has her patterns 20% off this week? Ned is so cute!

Winter has arrived in our part of Ontario too, in fact I think in most of Ontario. Thanks for the baking links, time to bake for Christmas, though I certainly don't do as much as I used to. Your quilt blocks are really nice. We have turkey for Thanksgiving and I made bone broth from the carcass and use it in soups that I make. Stay safe.

Enjoyed looking through all those no bake recipes and didn't realize there were so many different variations on Nanaimo bars. The Moose Farts caught my eye, if only for the name!
Thanksgiving meal here used to be pretty much a repeat of Christmas with turkey and all the trimmings. Now we don't see family over holidays (oldest and closet geographically son is a chef and always has to work on holidays) so we usually try to get together sometime close to Christmas and the meal is just whatever happens.
Fun links once again!

I bet you knew snow was coming based on that picture. We generally don't get much snow here (although last year we did all in one day.) The pond definitely has a cold winter day vibe. Thanks for the cool links. I am trying to decide if I dare look at the no bake bars and cookies.... We're pretty typical on our T-day foods. But I always have to have black olives on the table -- it's about the only time I serve them. My two grown kids still love them (as do I) but none of us tend to have them other times other than as garnish. Stay warm! Do you need some emergency brights? Let me know I could share some!

Ned looks quite comfy and content on his perch! He'll chase that squirrel away, I'm sure! The pond looks lovely, but oh so cold!! Friendship star is one of my favorite blocks and yours look great - so bright and colorful! And look at all those no bake cookies! I will have to check them out. Some of the photos are quite intriguing! Thank you so much for sharing all your finds with us on Monday Musings, Jocelyn! Have a great week! I know you have already celebrated Thanksgiving in Canada, but go ahead and celebrate with us too!
