First of all, what I made with those ingredients I showed in the last post...Scotcheroos. One of my facebook friends posted a recipe for them that does not use corn syrup to our All Day Sweets Pinterest board. I love anything with marshmallow in it so of course, I stuck with marshmallows rather than honey. These were a great treat and I shared them too with the little grandson hence the sprinkles.
My bread machine turned out an acceptable loaf of whole wheat/oat bread on Monday. I've been making a loaf a week and so far we've enjoyed regular white, country white, French and regular whole wheat. It's not the most wonderful of breads but at least I know what ingredients are in it. Hubby likes it which is the main thing. If you have a good recipe or site to check out for bread machine baking, please let me know.
Cherries are in season and we both love them and have eaten our way through 1 1/2 large bags. Farm fresh cucumber is delicious with a little apple cider vinegar and lemon pepper.
We have one squirrel proof feeder that has held up to its claims. However, the heavier squirrels, those black and grey, have learned to climb up and rock it a bit to send some of the sunflower seeds to the ground. With a will, there's a way.
Garden blooms for now, the first week of August, 2020. White Coneflowers, so loved by bees; the Day Lilies too are all in bloom and the two banks of Shasta Daisies are just starting to die off.
Summer always shows me a tiny little bit what it must be like to be a farmer. I picture a farming couple standing and looking with such a sense of satisfaction out over their beautiful growing fields. I never tire of those iconic pastoral scenes here in rural Ontario.
For instance, there is a massive sunflower farm we pass en route to a nearby town and once we stopped to take photos. It's just about the happiest sight in the world. So I'll leave you today with that.

The sunflower field is just amazing! I love the color of your squirrel. I used to see Fox Squirrels when I hiked but haven't seen one this year at all. Enjoy your week and all those goodies!
your squirrels are so dark compared to ours which are mainly gray with some brown squirrels too but none dark like that.

If someone sends you a recipe for a bread machine can you share it? I have a machine that I haven't used in years. but will probably start using again.
I need to try our bread maker... can't always find bread in grocery. BTW, having a corn syrup allergy myself, I learned marshmallows are made of corn syrup. I've not had one cherry yet this year and love them. The cukes look delish
I love the way sunflowers all face the same way (I assume toward the sun!). I haven't had Scotcheroos in years; love them. We don't do bread, except an occasional biscuit with a bowl of stew, so I'm no help with recipes.
Fields of sunflowers are so beautiful! Thanks for sharing that photo, Jocelyn. All of your flowers are pretty - I like the coneflowers especially. Squirrels are smart little guys, and we always find them entertaining! Your homemade bread and treats look yummy!
Yes those squirrels can be pesky. I have a trio that steals my seed. Then when i am outside grilling they throw wild hickory nuts at me from the tree in gratitude. Lol thanks for the sunny sunflower pics. So cheerful

Those darn squirrels but then when you have to scrounge for food . . . and it's right there in a holder, why not try to get it the easy way. The Scotcheroos look delicious! I always avoid the dreaded corn syrup too. Your bread looks really good. I would never think it was home made. I try to eat Paleo bread if I can find it. Nice flowers! Squirrels are so crafty when it comes to food!
Your slice looks wonderful, as does your bread. Those squirrels are clever to work out how to get the seed, no doubt a nuisance but clever!! The flowers in your garden are beautiful and those sun flowers gorgeous.

Love your white cone flowers. Love Shasta daisies, I always smile when I see them growing along side the road. I can't seem to get them to thrive here for some reason. LOL the squirrels. Smart little buggers except when it comes to cars. Great pic of the field of sunflowers.

Your Scotcheroos look delicious. I have some bananas and zucchini in need of use and found a tea bread recipe using both, but having trouble getting motivated to actual make it. Must do today or the bananas become compost. I've not seen white coneflowers. My day lilies are gone, mostly sadly, to the deer, but I did get to see a few blooms. The dahlias are starting to bloom though, so I have something to look forward to. Weeds have taken over and there's more heat due this weekend, so the weeds may in fact win the war. Have a good weekend.

We had a bread machine but never were very happy with it...didn't like the texture of the bread it produced. Now Resident Chef is happily making sourdough bread (today it was sticky buns...yum!). I've only ever seen a field of sunflowers once and it was a most impressive sight. Keep hoping to see more!

This year I dried cherries in the oven and pickled them. The latter is an acquired taste, which I ought to keep trying since I have a bottle of pickled cherries. lol I love seeing the field of smiling sunflowers, thank you!
