Autumn's Palette, Halloween Hand Quilting, Birthday Cross Stitch Start, Teeny Tiny Things to Like

Sally at Crafts, Cavies and Cooking posted about things found on the floor in her house. Being a quilter it included threads. I have threads migrating all over the house too it seems. There are a couple of hall rugs that they particularly adhere to and fingers are the only things that can get them out. A nuisance.  It made me think of the time Hubby found one of my threads in the fish aquarium thus proving my threads really are everywhere.

I got to see older grandson this week which was wonderful.  He's working weekends on the same farm as last summer and last year on the weekends. One of his many chores there is sorting apples.  He gave me these, Honeycrisp, and the smell in the bag was divine. He said it was the most expensive one they sell there and the most popular.

The weather has turned cooler overnight and even flirting with freezing but still above normal for the date. I did get out my wooly shawls and scarves. I realized I hadn't shown you the one I was knitting last year all finished, the moss stitch shawl. It is strange how the true colour just can't be picked up by this computer.  It is a deep rich aubergine, not as purple as this photo shows.  I think I know what my wooly project for this winter will be too...more later.

Tiny Things I Liked This Week

Getting this mail from the wonderful Gittas who included a very cute pumpkin free pattern.

I was struck by how the threads for the Autumn Quakers piece look so much like the autumn leaf palette outside my door. Very pleasing even in the rain.

I'm hand quilting the heck out of my Halloween quilt!

Just having a great time making loop de loops and squares and leaf shapes too.

And outlining the bigger motifs too.
Very enjoyable in front of the television and a very warm lap quilt in the bargain.

Hubby ordered these at 4 pm one day and they appeared on our door step at 12 noon the next day.

Amazon delivers for sure!! I can't wait to try them; our old Wahl's set finally gave out and yes I am still cutting my own hair.  I don't really enjoy going to a salon. They make me nervous or something.  And more money for stitchy stuff!

Three Teeny Tiny Things I Liked

1. Getting this tiny start on my birthday cross stitch start, the aforementioned Autumn Quakers...Oh I'm enjoying the 28 count Cashel linen very much and it has been overdyed to give it a moodier look, perfect for this season.

2. Hubby filled up my car with gas. I really don't know why but I hate pumping gas. It is always a treat to have it done for me. If I had the money, I would have a driver as well. I love sitting and looking around, taking in the sights, not the driving.

3. Ned learning to give up the ball when playing.  I use one of those ball launchers and finally he has learned "drop" so we can spend more time with him running and less time me begging for the ball.

Definitely not a teeny tiny thing. In this post at Gladi Porsche Quilts, Gladi showcased her friend, Christine Wickert's quilting on silks with hand quilting and hand embroidery. The word exquisite comes to mind! And Gladi corralled many of her own quilts for a trunk show for the Genesee Valley Quilt Guild; also such amazing, inspiring work!  Do take a peek.

I hope your week has been a good one and the weekend will be even better!

Honeycrisp are my favorite apples. I discovered them in New England and at the time they were not available in the South. One day I squealed when I saw the produce manager putting some out in our local Kroger. His comment: "This is what a Delicious wants to be when it grows up!"

I like all crisp apples - Mike only wants Fuji - weird! I too have threads all over the house and will even find them in the car telling me I bring them out on my clothes
love your quilt - not too much quilting :)

So many things to like in your post this week, Jocelyn! Honeycrisp apples are my favorite - to have them right from the orchard sounds delicious. Your new threads are so pretty and definitely match that beautiful leaf photo! The little pumpkin design looks fun to stitch. Enjoy that hand quilting, too!

Yum, yum, YUM! Honeycrisp apples are my favorite apples and they are the most expensive and popular here, too. I'm branching out and trying Pink Lady this week. That was nice of your grandson to bring you a delicious treat! Ooh-la-la to the Autumn Quakers project. It brings me right back to when we owned a cross stitch shop. I love 28-count Cashel linen (or most linens, for that matter). Good for Neddy dropping the ball!! That is so hard for them to learn but so rewarding when they finally get it! Take care. ~smile~ Roseanne

We first tried Honey Crisp Apples in Nova Scotia many years ago. Fell in love with them and buy them whenever they are on sale.

I love the colours of your threads.

God bless.

Great likes. Your hand quilting is fabulous. Oh that little pumpkin cross stitch with the threads. Um huge like for Ned dropping the ball and the ball launcher. Bobbin still leaves her toys all over when we play throw. LOL

Lots of good stuff. I've been enjoying all your cross stitch projects. I love the leaves on the ground this time of year. Threads in the aquarium - that is impressive!

Checkers the Pumpkin is so cute, I'm almost tempted to join you and stitch one up. The photo of your leaves is so pretty. Autumn Quakers is absolutely gorgeous! I don't dare cut my own hair (haven't tried since I was 3-4), but not really keen on salons either. Too much gunk in my hair when I leave - LOL.

Good morning Jocelyn! A lovely post, as always! I love the autumn colors you shared in your various projects and surroundings. Those skeins of autumn colored floss remind me that I can never seem to find clothing in those colors and perhaps should think about knitting myself a sweater in them! Thanks so much for the shoutout for my blog. Christine’s work is truly amazing! Have a great day!

Ah, the perpetual migrating threads thing. I am blessed (not!!) that my sewing room is carpeted and what a pain that is. I've discovered something that helps to gather up wayward threads - I take my sandal off (I wear birkenstocks in the house) and rub the bottom over the carpet and the threads seem to ball up into an easily grabbed mass.
I must admit I'm drooling just a teeny little bit over that bundle of threads!!!

Just a quick question, do you use a magnifier for your cross stitch and if so what kind? I just can’t see well enough for cross stitch anymore.

Honey Crisps are my favorite too!! I love your projects. Everything reminds me of Autumn! Your hand quilting is gorgeous! When I was little, we always had thread all over the house since my dad was a tailor. My mother always complained about it. Now I have thread all over my house and I only have myself to blame!!

Do you use a magnifier for your cross stitch? I love the pieces you are doing but seeing small things is a challenge anymore.

Honeycrisp is my favorite! Your leaves photo is gorgeous. Love the start on your cross stitch. I bought a lighted magnifier to hang on my neck to see the small count for my cross stitch! Your knitted moss stitch looks beautiful. Yes, Christine's quilting is magnificent, but yours look wonderful!

There’s nothing nicer than a fresh, crisp apple. Yours look so nice and rosy red. Have fun with your cross stitch. It definitely looks autumnal. You are getting out your scarves as we are putting ours away for the season. Yesterday was our first day in the high 20s Celsius. You had be more patience than me doing all your hand quilting. It makes such a difference to a project. I’m off now to check out the work with silks.

Love Honey Crisp apples! This post was just what I needed this morning. Love how you showed how the threads matched your leaves outside! Your hand quilting is amazing! I love the little cross stitch projects!!! So pretty! Glad Ned is learning to drop the ball for you, it does make a difference in wearing off puppy energy--without depleting ours! Have a wonderful day Jocelyn!

Oh yum! Those apples look delicious!
I feel the same way about going to a salon, but haven't learned to cut my hair yet. Over covid I have let it grow long and messy!
Enjoy your stitching today... the quilting looks fab!

Beautiful hand quilting, and great projects you have going. I love Honey Crisp apples, they are what I usually buy. I have threads all over the house too. I track them around on my socks. And on some of my socks they are really hard to get off! Hope you have a great week!

Such a beautiful post from the carpet of autumn hues at your door and the lovely hues of the threads that match.....to your lovely Halloween quilt you are busily trying to finish. You sound warm and cosy in your lovely home stitching happily away. Those apples sound divine. I have not heard of "Honeycrisp" apples. Why, I can hear the crunch and smell the freshness of them from all the way down here. So happy for you that Ned has learnt to drop the ball. He is a clever pup. I followed your link to those exquisite quilts. All are beyond amazing!

Honeycrisps are delicious apples and they do smell! Those threads are so rich in color and that over dyed linen is beautiful! (So is the stitching!) I've not cut my own hair. I'd probably scalp myself as that is all I can manage with the clippers on my husband's head of hair!

I am feverishly knitting away but I hope to squeeze in some much needed cross stitching into my days. you have a lovely blog!

I save your posts for when I have focus... so much to like, so much I DO like here. Those threads match your leaf pic, color is hard to replicate on blogs. I have old photo software that lets me edit things like tint, color, saturation but even then I can't always get it true. I knew a quilter who wrote a book and worried over the color pics being true to her quilts too, even in professional settings. I cut my own hair, and it looks almost good. I cut dh's hair and it often looks better than the salon's. More importantly I cut Milo's hair, with a degree of difficulty in his wiggling and hatred of feet being touched.

Look delicious those apples you got.
The colors yarn! I think they're gorgeous!
Real autumn colours, just like the leaves in the garden.
Greetings,
Floor

The colors of your embroidery floss are luscious! Exactly like autumn.
Your Halloween quilt looks delightful. I've probably shown us the whole thing but I'm looking forward to seeing it as a finished quilt.
