Halloween Redwork and Quilting, Garden Regrowth

So are you ready for the Trick and Treaters? Have you bought the little bars or bags of chips?  We don't get any little folk down our laneway but I always buy one of those boxes of tiny bars just in case. You know who winds up eating the chocolate.

Most welcome in the garden.  This pretty bloom has the unlikely name of Toad Lily. It made a very late appearance in the garden blooming in late September and was sustained because of the humidity of the first two weeks of October.

Below is an example of the regrowth that the continued heat into the fall encouraged. The Purple Globe Thistle had completed died off as you can see in the outer circle.

You know he's a keeper when he sees mail about fabric sales and forwards it to you!
I'm happy to be working on two projects in the sewing room this week. The first and the one I hope to finish is the Halloween Sampler quilt.  I'm so glad I had done over half of it last year; at the time I remember being disappointed I didn't get it finished.  I think I've added enough quilting lines now to secure it all for the washing machine. I have the binding ready to go.
And I'm sewing my Courthouse Steps blocks together.  My plan is to hand quilt them. To make that manageable, I've begun sewing them together in 12 block sections. I hope to have the sections all ready for the weekend.
I have a bunch of other things to share but I'll leave them for the next post which will be soon.
Pouring rain now for the fourth day in a row and the temperatures are down so it isn't a warm rain. But bundled up in my  ancient yellow Columbia rain jacket and wearing my rain boots and Neddy in his fur coat, we've been getting all our required walks in.

What a pretty Halloween quilt! Lovely, lovely! It’s been colder her and very windy! I have NOT been getting my steps in! I need to bundle up and just do it!

Your Halloween redwork piece is so cute! Love the Halloween quilt, the quilting makes it looks so cozy. I remember Toad Lilies but not sure why - they must have made an appearance in my childhood. That's a beautiful one. Courthouse Steps is going to be gorgeous! Enjoy the rest of your week - I hope the rain lets up a bit for you. We are supposed to get severe storms "before 3am" tonight - why must it always come at night?
You'll be sad to know that we don't participate in Trick or Treat. Even though this is a very small town, there are literally van-loads of kids that are dropped off at our street. When we moved here our neighbors told us they spent $80 the year before on Halloween candy! So we just turn off our outside lights and no one ventures up our sidewalk. "Old cranky folks" - lol!

Hi Jocelyn,
That Tiger Lily is beautiful! Th Purple Globe Thistle is going pretty good. I had some of that, but it died out. I'll have to plant some more next year. Love your Halloween quilt. And your Courthouse Steps is looking good. We had rain the better part of last week and this week. I thought I was going to have to call for a life boat. You have a great day!

I love your Halloween sampler quilt, Jocelyn. Gorgeous! I broadcast purple globe thistle seeds years ago to please my honey bees. Now it's spread like wildfire and has become a wee bit of a nuisance. Your Toad Lily is certainly a pretty little thing. Reminds me of a wee octopus somehow.

Love your Halloween redwork piece and your quilt have such beautiful embroidery. Here Halloween is not as popular as there. Children usually celebrate the date at school

You take the most interesting pictures of plants. The globe thistle looked like a green plant inside three trees planted too close together until I enlarged it! OH yes, all that dead is not tree bark but the thistle dying off. Very interesting. I like your embroidery. I think I have a Halloween one somewhere. It would be fun to get it out and actually make it one of these days. Have a great week.

Lovely Toad Lily, and rain coat and boots, your weather has surely turned to winter mode. Even to look at book covers is exciting, the real thing is so much better, I can re-read any quilting book again and again.

I love your October quilt, all those oranges and golds are so reminiscent of the fall foliage we all love. Your spiderweb quilting is perfect too. We haven't had Halloween visitors in years since we live in the country. Maybe in a year or two as the young couple across the road just had their first baby a month ago.

Your two projects are coming along nicely, not far at all to go with your Halloween quilt. Just keep stitching that binding down and you will be finished in no time at all!

Your Halloween red work and quilt are gorgeous. I love the way you quilted each block.

Have fun with the courthouse steps quilt, I hope you get it quilted to your satisfaction.

God bless.

I had some toad lily, but I killed it! OK, neglected it...
We don't get any kids, being so rural. I'm just as happy! Teaching 25 years of Hallowe'en, I am done!

I love your Halloween quilt, Jocelyn! The quilting looks wonderful on it. We don't seem to get trick or treaters on our street anymore, which we miss terribly. But, yes, there are treats here for them just in case!

Autumn is my favorite season (as well as winter!). The colors are so inspiring in my knitting and I want to knit all the knits!

The purple globe thistle is a beauty! I have an ancient Columbia rain jacket too - I bought it for $20 on clearance. It no longer really keeps the rain out, but I stubbornly continue to wear it. (Did you find snow boots?)

I love your Halloween quilt. I just finished one also. Well, by finished I mean the top is done! I always read your blog to get inspiration.

It's been years since I've seen a toad lily - and so unexpected for one to appear in the fall. Once more bit of proof of how our climate is changing I guess.
No trick or treaters are allowed in our building but the management used to collect up donations for passing out in our lobby. New management now and they evidently aren't 'in to' Halloween for the kids...unless they plan on paying the entire shot on their one and I can't see that happening.

The courthouse step blocks just do it for me. I'm such a traditionalist in so many ways I suppose! Love all the fall pics you've been posting. Such a beautiful time of year!:)
