January 2022 Blizzard, Lily Challenge, Big Project Mystery Clue

This fall the little gray squirrel has been a steady visitor to the bird feeders. I was struck by how beautiful his tail is.

He looks very healthy.

How appropriate to have my Snowbound (Kathy Schmitz's fabric line) Hexie runner in use. All day Monday we were mostly house bound while a blizzard blew around us. That is unusual for here as while we get lots of snow, we lack the winds to create a blizzard.

Neddy and I had a bit of a hard time doing our early morning walk. I had to stop twice to catch my breath. But I was determined to get him out because he was a bit sad that Petey has gone home. He was not tired at all and developed a very cute kind of high, spritely step to get through the snow.
Good thing I did the walk in the morning because so much snow fell we can't walk the trails now till the ski do does some flattening.
Suddenly our world is very white.
I was able to get back in the sewing room and complete the big tidy up while the snow flakes flew. It felt so good to have that done even if it is three hours of my life I will never get back. LOL

Here is a clue to a big project I uncovered.  All the border blocks are hand pieced and completed.  I need the center medallion finished.  I got hung up on how I thought the birds were a bit odd looking.  Ring any bells to any of you?

"Finish" is my word for stitching for now and I pulled out this project below to be next in the to be quilted line up. This was the 2018 Lily Challenge Project run by Het Klossie. I kept a basket with the pieces all ready to be stitched and made a habit of stitching one each evening while supper cooked.

Hand stitched blocks with machine stitched borders. What an enjoyable project!

The sewing room will be busy this week. Hope yours is too!

Wow, that's a lot of snow. We got about 3 inches on Sunday. Sun is out today and melting fast now that it is above freezing. Like you, I'm trying to clear out some unfinished projects and declutter the sewing room, but I just seem to make a bigger mess!

so much snow - that would be very hard to walk in for sure - that looks like what we used to get in Wisconsin when I lived there in my earlier years - we had the Lake effect winds and always had so much snow and lots of drifts - kids laugh today and think we are fooling when we tell them how us older siblings would have to break a path down the long driveway for the younger kids to follow us to catch the school bus - we had almost a 1/4 mile driveway to walk day in and day out and rarely was school cancelled. Dad would leave the car at the end of driveway so he could get to work each day.

It is beautiful, your work.
I'm resting now. My snowblowing is done!

You almost needed to have a lifeline attached when you went out in that snow, to guide you home.
It's always nice to see what you are working on. Isnt it fun the rediscover old projects tucked away, out of sight, out of mind.

The scene outside your windows looks much like ours, a lot of snow. Looks like you have some sweet projects on your to-do list as you while away these mid-winter days.

That squirrel is a handsome chap.
That is a lot of snow. We rarely get snow here, so close to the sea.

Pretty views with all that snow, but definitely hard to walk in! I've been enjoying the busy squirrels outside our windows, too. Looks like you have some fun projects to work on while you're snowed in. I love the lily quilt!

That really is a pretty squirrel. That's sure lots of snow, we had 7.5 inches here, which is more than we ever get in one year.

That squirrel looks like it just came back from the groomers! For serious! Our squirrels look much rougher! LOL. I would take all that snow in a heartbeat! LOVE it! Fun quilt! I have one on my bucket list with those, just a different layout. Hopefully soon!

Pretty Squirrel picture - yes that is a beautiful tail!! Your house block is very cute. And, I love your finished quilt!
I wonder if some of your blizzard will travel down to us in South Texas. I have been waiting for the Canadian fronts to hit. We are scheduled for a cold week starting tonight! Yea more Cedar allergies. Hugs

That is a beautiful squirrel. I have been trying to declutter and organize the sewing room too. Your house block looks great, but that red and white quilt is gorgeous!

Oh yes, that squirrel is so precious! I'm sure he stayed warm somewhere during the blizzard. I so love your hexie runner! Just beautiful! That photo is the snow struck me with it's beauty. YOur house block is fun with all those prints! It reminds me of a neighborhood QAL I started in 2014(?). Your hand pieced blocks/machine pieced border came out lovely! How smart to make a block a day while dinner cooks! :) Happy sewing!

You are always sew busy and accomplished. I am always amazed by the variety of projects you have in process and how you manage to keep working on all of them. We did not get a blizzard but we have cold, snow, rain and heavy winds. It is still windy, which is not unusual for us at any time of year. I have many squirrels competing with each other and the birds to constantly empty my feeders. We have four squirrels with nests in the trees around our fences. Now there are several other squirrels seem to be coming from across the street in the front and over the fences from yards of the houses on the street behind us. They bicker and chase each other but they all seem to get their share of the food because they are all fat with glossy thick fur. Their tails seem to be their defining feature, some long and skinny and some fat and full and one with a wisp of fur that sticks out like an feather at the tip. They are comical and fun to watch. The familiar ones sit on the porch and nibble right a foot away from of the cats looking at them through the glass door. The ones from afar are more skittish about the cats and one of them runs back over the fence when he even sees me glance at him out the kitchen window. Who does he think is feeding him all that food? Silly squirrels ... :) Pat

Resident Chef cleaned more than 14" of snow from the roof of our car Tuesday morning. More snow than we've seen in a number of years. Got another few inches last night. Hopefully it's done for awhile!
That squirrel has a spectacular tail - I imagine it helps to keep him warm on these cold nights.

Must be in the air because I just ordered new storage bins to replace the dilapidated bins I've been using for years. My plan is to reorganize my small sewing area.

I love the red and white blocks. Hand-sewn?? That's hardcore!

I was wondering how you survived the blizzard, however you did find lots to do.
