I get sad sometimes when I see how many folks have stopped blogging; several I had quite a nice email friendship with so I miss them. I guess Instagram is gradually getting more popular, but to me, it doesn't offer quite the same level of communication or connection. I'm going to carry on blogging for as long as I enjoy it. You, my blogging friends, have become an important part of my life! And it is good for my brain too keeping up with all the little bits and pieces of writing a blog...the linking up, searching, cutting and pasting as we called it in the old days, etc.
We had our Easter feast, a turkey dinner with all the trimmings, on Sunday and everything went well. I enjoyed it all...the lead up- getting the house all clean, a spring tablecloth out, planning the meal and the special shop. And then the food preparations. I still appreciate not having to rush about like in the old days juggling a work life along with these events.
For dessert, I made (should say assembled because I didn't actually bake them) the Profiteroles with chocolate sauce and then decided not to make the Ambrosia salad. As it happened, while in the bakery section of the store, I spied meringue nests and thought those would be a little nod to spring. I filled them with whipped cream topped with fresh fruit salad.
And still in mind with petit point, well not quite... how I admire folks with the eyesight to stitch petit point! But I did slow stitch a fair bit since my last post. Included was making a start on my Pileated Woodpecker piece stitching around the eye. This is going to be so enjoyable to work on as I love stitching on the 28 count Cashel linen. I use a #26 tapestry needle for those who wondered and I enlarge the pattern too.

my Grand-mere's-- all crackled and so lovely that I cherish...

I started blogging to keep track of what I’m making and have made many friends from around the world in the process. I don’t plan on stopping any time soon. I also post pictures on Instagram.

I too enjoy blogging, and I'm quite happy to keep going. Never even looked at Instagram and I surely won't start. There are several bloggers that I miss, in particular Crazy Mum Quilts, I used to love taking part and reading her Friday link up.
Your wonderful dinner set is amazing. Cooking a big family Easter meal doesn't seem to happen here in NZ. We had a BBQ meal on Easter Sunday with our caravan friends while we were away.
Yes, Jocelyn, do keep blogging. I, for one, enjoy reading blogs more than IG. I have an IG account, but rarely post. It is so full of ads I don't need or want and the emphasis these days is on videos with loud, frenetic music. I've made many friends in blogland.
I was home alone on Easter and made a ham steak, sweet potato and sauteed asparagus. The days of making big dinners are over for me.
So nice to see flowers starting to bloom. My daffodils survived the cold spell and 4" of wet snow and are still showing off their yellow splendor.

I miss some of the bloggers I used to be in touch with as well. There are a couple that I knew had died some years ago but others you wonder what happened - some are on Instagram but not all. I guess some just grow tired of it? I always like to sit and read blogs though and write my own. It is nice to share ideas and every day chatter

Your Easter dinner looks wonderful! Your china was a great find. Such a bargain! I feel the same about Instagram. It's not the same. It's basically one picture with a few quick sentences. It's definitely not as in depth as blogging. I'm going to keep blogging too!

I so enjoy your blog and will continue to read and cherish as long as you feel like writing. I too had a big family dinner for Easter with 9 of us. We had ham and salmon with lots of sides. Two new recipes, one made with zucchini which is a keeper. The other was supposed to be quiches made in hash brown muffin size crusts. This one not successful. We had to help my dear cat, constant loving companion for 14 years. No way I could decorate but blessedly family gave me flowers that I was able to use as a centerpiece.
I do not have a blog, but if others would share your blog name, I would like to read yours too. Lovely dishes.

Love the china and dinner sounds great. Lamb is the tradition here for Easter and we were invited out to lunch which delicious slow cook lamb. Instagram is as it says, instant and probably suits those who are always in a rush ie 'the more quilts/cross stitch/cakes you can churn out the better' sort of person. I do use it to reach a larger audience but much prefer my blog, slow but sure like my quilts, and the people I have met along the way. xx
I agree, blogging seems to be on the decline too. It means a lot to me, long-distance friendships, seeing people's lives on the other side of the world. And like you, I now live simply, I enjoy the little things.

I think often about quitting my blog and just doing the occasional photo on Instagram. But there is something about the blog that keeps drawing me back. I don't post as often, and I like that I am not committed to much of anything, so I will keep going.
Why have I never thought about enlarging a pattern for needlework! What a good idea. :D
I too prefer blogging. It allows me to tell my story in my own way, and Instagram just doesn't do it. I hope my blogger friends will stay with us.

Jocelyn, I so agree with you about the bloggers. I look forward to your blog and hope you keep enjoying that process. Occasionally I go to Instagram and end up spending way too much time looking at all the gorgeous work people are doing. There are too many advertisements….I don’t recall that from Instagram several years ago. Many of the stitchers I follow refer you to their Instagram for their daily or frequent entries. That’s too exhausting for me!!!!!
I assume you are doing one over one on your slow stitching on 28 count? I’ve not stitched on that yet. Right now I’ve pieces on 32 count linen and 40 count, stitching one over two in both cases. I ordered a piece of 30 count linen for a Blackbird design I’ll start in a month or two…..it’s a Halloween pattern that I’ve admired for several years. I just love crossstitch as it is today. I’ve almost abandoned quilting in favor of stitching.

The year is flying. Easter came early this year so that makes it seem like time is flying even faster! Now it’s already 3 days into April! I must attack my list of things I need to do!!!!

OMG, I love that peti-point set. My Mom has many of the pieces and it's promised to me. She cherishes the set and uses it weekly for mahjong teas with her friends. I can't believe that bargain you found. I would have jumped all over it as well!! She has the coffee mugs, in addition to the teacups and saucers. I am so happy for you that I could jump!!
I loathe Instagram and refuse to subscribe to it. It’s sad too that many linky parties have fallen by the wayside. I am so grateful to those bloggers that keep them going. To me, it emphasises how important it is for we bloggers to continue to support each other by commenting on blogs, and linking to favourite blogs on our own blogs to ensure that we remain strong and faithful to creating and sharing our quilt journeys. I enjoy reading your posts, as I enjoy many others.

I am with you. Blogging is so much better than Instagram.
I, for one, can't be bothered to enter into the 'keeping up with the Jones' mentality that seems to permeate places like Instagram. I'm happy in my blogging world and with the blogging friends I've made and there I plan to stay. Yes, it takes time to do a blog post and in my case, (and yours) find links for people to hopefully enjoy. I do have a very limited connection on Facebook and only that because we use it to video chat with our family out west.
Jocelyn, please don't stop blogging. I love reading everything you share. I don't do IG either but I'll continue to blog. The tips & goings on that we all share with one another is wonderful. That goes for your pileated woodpecker cross-stitch project. Your china is beautiful! I myself don't have any china but I hope to get my mother's set. I hope you're having a great week!
