This is the last sign of the mystery pond animal. Something broke through the ice to make a path right to the hole in the bank.
The pond is like this now. It can hold my weight and there is no further sign of the animal.
There is lots of goal setting happening this special time of year as we start a brand new one. "25 in 25" is very popular in both the cross stitch and quilty worlds. What do you think? For myself, I'm determined to continue finishing projects begun and my in sight quilting table is definitely helping that goal. Speaking of which, here is the latest on that quilty table, my blue EPP version of a Lone Star Medallion quilt.
I had already spent ages stitching white corners on and didn't like how wrinkled looking they were so took those off. I did a little research and am going to applique the whole thing to one large piece of background fabric, like I saw one person online do successfully. I've still kept the papers in the edging so it should be pretty easy to get that job done.
We'll see how that goes. Wish me luck!
And here is how far I've gotten with Redwork Noel.
My ex was here for the holidays and we had a number of happy get togethers with the family. This Christmas Day, there were nine of us around the table. I was disappointed in my turkey. Looks good, doesn't it? Tasteless, no real turkey flavour there...a bit of a mystery why. Tony very helpfully suggested I should have bought a Butterball which I probably should have. LOL
One of the best things about having visitors is the nooks and crannies get a clean out. As if anyone could see those- by 4:30 it is dark here these days, or anyone really care for that matter.
We didn't put up a tree but had a number of light up things around this living area. I'm happy with this little house row bought at Value Village. Took a chance and all it needed was a battery.
A housekeeping issue... Readers comments...I don't receive them in my gmail feed anymore, only in Blogger itself and I don't know how to reply there. I've spent a couple frustrating sessions trying to rectify the situation with no luck. No doubt I have pushed a key somewhere that changed this situation. I'll keep at it.
Thank you to the kind reader who had concern for us about air quality with burning wood. We are in a main area with a 20 foot ceiling which probably helps. We also have two air purifiers, one in this living area and one down the hall in the tv room. Fingers crossed those too are helping.
So now we are on the cusp of one year's end and a fresh new one beginning. Yikes. Endings always come too fast. Does anyone know the song that line comes from?

I don't think modern turkeys have anywhere near as much flavor as the ones we used to get (I'm thinking 50 years ago).
As far as the comment issue goes, it seems to be a universal problem, nothing you did created it. Apparently Google/Blogger made some change and despite many blgogers asking for a solution, they haven't responded or even explained what they did.
Happy New Year, Jocelyn. May 2025 be a healthy and productive one for you and Tony and the rest of the family.
Pat
I've only ever cooked a Turkey once, there are p,enty of frozen turkeys in the shops but they are not such a big thing here. And speaking of exes, my first husband and his wife came to Robin's memorial service. I went over to speak to them and remembered thinkinking how old we are now looking - we were married all those years ago when I was 18 and he was 21!
Bloggers is still putting comments into my emails, but made them all non reply
Most do not have trouble with wood burning fireplaces - we burn now and then but not often because it does make my sinuses stuffy because of allergies and the fan on the fireplace is so loud. I do not know an answer to the blogger issue I hope someone will be able to help you with that. Good that you get along well enough with your ex for a holiday I'm sure your children appreciate that. My sister tries to get along with her ex for holiday gatherings at her son's house but she is very uncomfortable and says she usually makes sure to stay well away talking to others after greeting him pleasantly. I love your Noel stitching - be careful on the ice :)
I really don't think that I could get twenty-five cross stich items completed or the same amount of quilt projects done either. Perhaps I could manage just 25 of my project plans total for the year. I love your medallion quilt and think that your idea of putting it onto a larger piece of fabric, perfect.
God bless.
When it comes to replying to comments on Blog-grrrr - after you publish a comment there should be a 'reply' just beneath it. Click on that and you can reply just as if you are making a comment. Your reply ends up indented a little bit on your blog and signifies it's a reply. Hope that works for you. It's what I do with mine because I stopped getting email notifications a long time ago.
Happy New Year--we are trying to remain hopeful about this
coming year despite our sad election results....hugs, Julierose
I love your Redwork! So pretty! Your turkey looks so good. I can't believe it wasn't very tasty. I always hate the end of the year. I'm another year older and I try to look back to see how much I've accomplished. It's so different when you're retired. I hope you have a Happy New Year!
I wonder if that animal in the pond was a fisher cat (though they're not a real cat but a member of the weasel family). We occasionally have one around the creek though I've not seen any lately. 25 in 25 sounds totally unrealistic in my life right now as it relates to quilting, though I could accomplish it with sourdough bread baking, lol. Wishing you a happy new year ahead. I always enjoy reading your posts.
Your EPP is pretty - of course I have a soft spot for blue. Your fire looks so cozy! do you heat only with wood or is it supplementary?
I agree! I can't believe 2024 is over already. Happy new year!
It's sad your turkey was tasteless, especially because it looks so delicious! I used to buy the cheapest turkeys, usually store brands. Then one year, for a reason I can't remember, I bought either a Honeysuckle or a Butterball turkey and was amazed at the difference. It wasn't the taste so much as the tenderness.
As for having blog comments come to your email, try this: Go behind the scenes to your blog's dashboard then go to Settings (on the left sidebar), then scroll down to "Email." Look at the "Comment notification subscribers" and make sure you're email address is there. I hope that helps.
The problem I have is that several comments come in one email, almost as though each commenter was commenting on another's comment--a chain of them, so to speak. In the address box, they all say "no reply," but when I click on them to reply, the commenter's address appears. Blogger is so strange!
Love your seasonal decorations and stitching! Twinkling things always give a nice glow. 25 in 25 does sound like a too lofty goal. Like you, I will continue to work on my UFO’s. It’s always fun to start something new too… we will see what 2025 brings. Happy new year! Gail at the cozy quilter.
Loving your EPP Lone star piece--such beautiful work you've done on this!!
With the old year turning to become the past I often am thinking of my childhood Christmases and family and friends who've gone on ahead...bittersweet time for me this year...
I want to finish a lot of my little "false starts" into a "smorgasboard" quilt using them all in some way for 2025.
In the meantime, Ojos sewing and improving scraps is my diet...
I am sending you my best wishes for a healthy and a happy New Year-
I am -trying to stay positive with the coming changes here in USA
Hugs, Julierose
Gosh, looks like "Nessie" got away before he couldn't, right? Your home looks so pretty and cozy. I would have been happy with just lights too, but surprisingly, Hubs missed the tree, so he bought a used one on Marketplace for $50. Best tree we've ever had!
Your Lone Star Medallion quilt is beautiful! I'm impressed with all you've gotten done.
Sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas. No one but us here for Christmas, but that was OK, it was peaceful and happy.
Happy New Year Jocelyn, and don't worry about responding. :)
I had to google that line, but it's from an Art Garfunkel song called "All I Know"
Well, if you get this I commiserate with you about the comments. Mine show up 3 at a time in my email but don't come with the reply function. I don't think you did anything wrong because others besides us are having problems. I'm glad you had a wonderful Christmas, your turkey does look yummy.
I'm having problems with blogger as well. I love your projects and think the applique idea is good one! Tony's suggest about the turkey made me laugh....my mother refuses to eat or make anything but a butterball. We tease her all the time about it. Wishing you the happiest new year Jocelyn! Hugs!
What a happy happy scene with the lighted wreath above the fire!
thinking about you, hope the new year is good to you all
