Presents-Old and New and Quilty Too

I had to give up my quilty table for a couple of days. It sported the thrifted vintage Santa table cloth and displayed my second hand store Petit Point dish set. Both big bargains and well loved by me

I received the annual Christmas planter from Tony's kind former inlaws. They specify it be a plant or two I can grow and it never fails to make me happy. More about the plants later. There is Ned snoozing away in the background.
My retired librarian sister always sends me a book and it is always completely appropriate. It is a treat to receive. Isn't that owl gorgeous!

Below...A present to myself. I clearly have a thing for anything vintage. I adore these pictures so just had to buy this jigsaw puzzle found at Value Village. I'm loving putting together the little scenes. I always listen to podcasts while doing this.
*Someone asked isn't it frustrating if there are pieces missing. My answer is I've been very lucky so far...the most pieces missing from one was 3 and I had Petey here at the time- a piece or two may have flown off with two big dogs running about. One had one piece missing but most still have all the pieces which is surprising. Often the bag hasn't been opened or if opened, you can tell the puzzle has never been put together...the pieces have that brand new stiff feel. Jigsaws seem like a good gift but maybe not for everyone which is why there is always a good selection at thrift stores. This one definitely has been put together before; if I had to guess, many times.
And now to my quilty Christmas Presents project- my blocks are finished and I've started to add white sashings. Here they are on my design wall in the back hall while I consider final placement. I just realized counting them, I think I have four more in the sewing room somewhere...maybe.
The fabrics are pretty...I wish you could see them close up.

Now that most of the Christmas treats have been eaten...
I've watched a number of Instagram videos with folks using those Pillsbury frozen biscuits in the most creative ways. I think I'll buy a tube of the Grands and make them as a treat for Tony. He loves Cinnamon Rolls and we haven't had them for a very long time. Have you tried them?

And here he is relaxing by the fire on this the second day of the new year.

2025 has a nice ring to it, doesn't it. We wish you all the happiest of New Years! And a huge thank you to you who stayed with me throughout my ups and downs of last year. Your words meant the world to me.

for the biscuits do you put all the dough together from the tube and form it into one piece to make the cinnamon rolls or one biscuit at a time and flatten each to form with cinnamon? Interesting. The china is so delicate I have a set that was my grandmothers but no one ever wants to use it and take the time to wash it. I'm not sure what will ever happen to it. After I got it I used it once or twice and it is in the cupboard every since.

RC received a 500 piece puzzle from our oldest grandie (he's 10 and picked it out himself) so that will likely get set up later today (once he finishes shoveling all the snow from around the car). This was the Year Of Chocolate in our household and we got more than we can likely eat over the next six months. Good thing we have a freezer!
Tony looks so content sitting front of the lovely fire.

I love your vintage Santa and the pretty Christmas planter, too! I think your sister knows the perfect books for you - that one looks really enjoyable. The Christmas gift blocks are fun, Jocelyn - and really pretty prints in them that give the look of wrapping paper. Happy New Year to you and Tony - such a cozy scene there by the fire!

We are in summer mode but it's quite cold outside this morning, not "Light The Fire" cold, but chilly enough. Our younger daughter likes the Wasjig puzzles, and I was lucky to get a lot from our Op Shop, $2 each, and among the volunteers there ,are several ladies who take the sets home put them together, then we know all the pieces are there,. Fine china, my Gran had a whole set that she must have brought out from Scotland in 1909.Happy New Year greetings to you both.

Happy New Year! It is raining, again, today. Twice this winter we woke up to snow, but thankfully the next week only mentions rain in the forecast. Hubby doesn't like snow, he's afraid he'll fall. I understand that and go out first, after all I am the younger of the two of us. I love reading your blog.

That looks like a fun puzzle! We did one and got halfway through another while up at my parents. They are so fun to do. That looks like a cozy file to sit and read in front of. Wishing you both a happy and healthy 2025.

Such a lovely thoughtful array of gifts. I do like the look of your “new” jigsaw. It will be fun to put together. Next Christmas should have a nice new quilt. You are well on your way. Tony looks rather settled there by the fire.

I love your vintage puzzle. I have been thinking about getting one out. I usually do them through the holidays, but I made myself too busy for it this year.

I have tried the Grands cinnamon rolls and they are very good…..not as good as made from scratch but SO much easier!!!!!! I’m curious about the videos of folks doing interesting things from frozen Pillsbury biscuits. Also, there was nothing more about the plants! What a lovely gift! I often send a puzzle to a family as an added gift at Christmas. Folks often have more time than to work on them. Happy New Year Jocelyn!!!! 2025 does sound grand.

The quilty Presents blocks are so, so pretty! Love that photo of Tony in front of your fireplace. What a beautiful space you have! Good luck with your biscuit dough. :) We have the Littles here, and we are planning to use a can of crescent rolls and have them help make pigs in a blanket today. They go home today, and Papaw and Grandma will be pooped - lol!

I love your Christmas presents quilt. So festive! Your home looks lovely for the holiday. How do you find such great vintage items? My brother used to eat a whole container of Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls in one sitting. I remember them as a favorite of ours. (When I could get one away from him!!)
