A hardy perennial that had spread wildly in the field beside the barn, it is a symbol of friendship. Chinese lanterns lend themselves to watercolours very well. This pretty version is by Elizabeth Herrman and you can read more HERE. Mary( Mary in Peoria Handmade) and LeeAnna (Not Afraid of Color) what do you think?
Oranges in nature are so vibrant. Including the little woolly bear caterpillar that is migrating around the garden these days. Love spying them. Beside it is a crysalis of a moth; no idea which one. Did you know woolly bears can predict the kind of winter we are going to have? The wider the orangy brown in the middle, the milder the winter to come. Looks like we are going to have it milder than usual. Wouldn't that be nice? You can read all about the folklore behind this legend here.
I have Edyta's pumpkin hanging on the wall. Have memories of loving all the stages of stitching these.
I'm making a hanging sleeve for the Sew Spooky hanging which is going to a new home. Several YouTube videos have been helpful with it.
I think the straw pumpkin head woman was my favourite.
I finished the second batch of peaches with peach and plum muffins. They were so good and I wish I would not overbake...these were a little dry. I sprinkled a little turbinado sugar on the tops.
Canada geese have just begun their very large migration southward. With rainy weather on the weekend, the skies were suddenly moodier.
I have this ebook from the library finally, been on hold for ages, and begun reading it. I enjoy Kate's writing style and phrases, etc. but something about the plot, the tricky flipping of time elements is niggling at me. However, I know I will finish it.
We are off downtown for one of Hubby's medical appointments. A glaucoma checkup which should go well. I hope to stop at this fabric shop on the way back home- just to look, :) while Hubby has a coffee at the nearby McDonald's.
Hope all is well with you!

As we grow older, Terry is much more open to doing his own thing while I go to the fabric shop. Or maybe I am more open to letting him occupy himself while I shop. I have never seen the Chinese Lattern plant. Invasive or not, I think I would like it. Your pumpkins look great.I love a spooky Halloween and have been checking the guide for spooky shows on TV this month.

Chinese Lantern is new to me, too. So pretty!
I do like the Chinese lanterns. Quite unusual. Thanks for linking up today.
Chinese Lantern bush, my Mum had a pink and an orange one, on the south side of our farm home, They flourished there so maybe they liked the shade. A book you might enjoy, Hare's Fur" by Trevor Shearston, about a potter who found 3 children hiding not far from where he walked.A fabric shop," just to look" that part would escape me, as I would be so tempted to bring some home.
Hi Jocelyn! Oh gosh, I just love Chinese Lanterns. I can remember being a young child and seeing them for the first time. I asked the lady that had them what they were, and that they look and still do to me so very cool. Your pumpkin quilt looks fabulous hanging on the lovely wooden wall. They both compliment each other so nicely. It will be handy for Thanksgiving coming up soon as well. ~smile~ Roseanne
I hardly realize they go away those geese....I hear and see some all though the winter months...they hang out at the nearby golf course and also along the river... I hope it is not a bad winter this time around. so many poor ducks froze here last year..the river was so frozen in most areas....
Those Chinese lanterns are sure pretty and the muffins look great too. I'll bet some of your geese will be at our lake later on!
I love seeing your pumpkin projects come out to be displayed! You reminded me that it was time for mine to come out, too. Your muffins look yummy! I hope you had some fun at the quilt shop today!
Chinese lanterns are really pretty - both the real ones and the watercolor. Those muffins look tasty! Lots of wooly bears around here, too!
the flowers are unusual to me... and the painting of them is glorious. The book has a flamingo on it, must look her up on goodreads. Muffins look so good, a bit of butter or peanut butter would moisten them up! If they are too dry I'll eat them... I can't seem to stop with the bread these days. Those geese will be here soon, oy. They love it here. A mild winter huh? hope it's frosty enough to kill the bugs. LeeAnna
Chinese lanterns are beautiful and perfect for a bouquet on your table. We used to grow them when we had a garden.
The Chinese lanterns are gorgeous and the painting is fabulous. So many great likes. Love the pumpkin wall hanging. I am thinking the wooly bear is predicting a rough winter.
You hope for a milder winter, I don´t. I am afraid of the climate change because then alot of southern things will come to the north like animals that don´t belong here, plants...

Hi Jocelyn what a great post,oh I love your pumpkin quilt it's awesome your Chinese lanterns are so pretty, hope your day is a good one xx
Chinese lanterns are pretty. I remember them in my Grandma's garden. They certainly are an inspiration. The painting is beautiful as are the other artistic creations.
Interesting to hear about the weather connection with furry caterpillars' colour bands. I hope the glaucoma test went well. I do not have this condition, although my mother and cousin did. I have other eye conditions so always good to get checked out. Wishing you a good weekend.
I love Chinese lanters too but they take over the beds here and I'm limited on space. Here in Pennsylvania Dutch Country, they believe if the wooly caterpillar is out early it will be a terrible and early winter. I haven't seen any yet! Love your autumn themed quilts!! Have a great day and a fun time fabric shopping!
I much prefer the watercolor version of the Chinese Lanterns as the garden variety is too invasive. Lots of geese flying over here as well. Haven't seen a woolly caterpillar yet, but there was still a Monarch lingering among the zinnia earlier this week (before the big temperature drop and the endless rain). Never did bake a peach pie this season. It was just too hot to turn on the oven, but we have a frost warning for tonight, so the end of garden season is near.

Love all those pumpkins!
Your Pumpkin quilt is delightful! I love to hear the geese honking as they pass over.
The Chinese Lantern flowers are so pretty but so is the watercolor! I love seeing all the different pumpkins! It's certainly that time of year!
What a beautiful quilt on your wall, I love it!
I love Chinese Lanterns, but they do spread and having only a tiny garden, I just can't have them :-(
xx
I am rather slow. Just starting the stitching on the pumpkins that I made last year. I have been trying to see whether you matched the color of thread to the pumpkin or whether you used the same color all through. Looks like you matched it. Am I right? I need to get busy. Yours is beautiful! It astounds me how much you get done every week!
Chinese lanterns? Beautiful-so delicate looking. Yes, I need to try that watercolor-looks cool. Thank you. I remember your pumpkin quilt-love it. Enjoy!
We did our healthcare appointment! From 10 to 4.
I love your quilting and other work. I shall save that title.
I had chinese lanterns, but they seem to have not done well. I quite like them.
