Cheesecake, Turkey Talk, To Do List

First on my TO DO list is show you that Thanksgiving turkey, the one that was cooked from a frozen state and pre-stuffed.  I put it in the oven at 9 and worked out it would be cooked by 4.  And it was.
Everyone thought it was very good; the dressing was typical of those packaged types but tasty. So perhaps I'll do this again sometime deliberately. Except for the longer oven time, it certainly simplifies the cooking of a turkey.
I made one of those cheesecake type of desserts. We had bought a tray of fresh figs and a container of pears at Costco, both favourites of ours.
I made an oatmeal base and one of those unbaked cheesecake mixtures with whipped cream and cream cheese for the middle layer. Then piled on the fruit which I had mixed with  a little honey...it was tasty too though I was a little worried about the improvising and not following a recipe as such.  Here is what was left over...not as pretty but Hubby will enjoy it. :)
I had a great day, by the way. I love preparing a meal like this and getting the house ready.  We stayed long at the table and did a lot of laughing which is a sign of a great gathering. And I got more pretty flowers.
But Back to my TO DO List for this Tuesday's post.
Sort photos which is an ongoing project. With my old ancient Acer lap top still in use and now my new one as well, I have photos everywhere it seems.  I've given this task two night's worth of time but it needs much more.

I need to sort this closet in my sewing room.  Goodness knows what I will find. Hopefully this is the Before photo. It started out kind of tidy but I've been just sticking stuff in there since I moved into this room a year ago.
 I
I have to get out my good sewing machine the one with all the different feet. I have a few  many projects that need quilting. Time to get at them even if I just use the walking foot for quilting.

Meanwhile I finished the four full circle Dresden blocks which was last week's goal.
Work out the next blocks for this autumn stitching...I've made a start and want these done this week.  I'm really enjoying these fabrics.
Try to maintain my physical fitness...
I've always jogged...a little and with great care.  Since swimming is over, I've taken a little more interest in my so called jogging. I'd love to keep the legs as strong as the swimming made them. It's alarming to me how quickly I lose those gains.  So I've been doing a little jog every morning since I'm up anyway.  Not beating myself up if I don't do it but want badly to keep this up as long as the weather allows. It gives me more energy during the day and also removes some of the guilt about eating. :)  So a goal this week is to keep moving as fast as I can.
Hope your week is going well.  After a little rain yesterday we are enjoying lovely sunshine again today so October has been a wonderful weather month so far.

I know the feeling when the cupboard is full, my new storage area has wonderful shelves that are full!! Walking, I should do just that, and remember to keep my shoulders back.A turkey, that was a great way to cook it, and to gather family round, love the picture in my mind of you all together.

Hi Jocelyn! Happy Thanksgiving late, and your turkey looks deee-licious. Hmm! Who knew they had a turkey from freezer to table, all ready to go like that. I love stuffing but detest making it. And fresh figs!! I was just saying to Sue that I have never had a fresh fig that I know of, but I like Fig Newtons. Those flowers are GORGEOUS!! I am hoping that mine open very soon and put on a pretty display like your did. I keep checking on them but they are opening so slowly! And {{applause}} for you on keeping up the leg strength. Use it or lose it seems very fitting. How is Rex doing? Whatever happened with him staying upstairs - I know that won't happen if you two go downstairs. ~smile~ Roseanne P.S. Thanks for linking up!!

Jocelyn - belated Happy Thanksgiving! Looks like your turkey and the dessert worked out well - now you know you can have a success even with unplanned improvising! All your projects look lovely - you go, girl!

Yes, I'd have been worried about cooking a whole turkey from a frozen state, but it appears yours turned out wonderfully. We celebrate our Thanksgiving in November. Last year we all went to a nice restaurant together where they had EVERYTHING you could think of to eat and it all was so good, but I missed having Thanksgiving at home. So I'm trying to decide what to do. Wondering if they have those kind of frozen turkeys here in the states. I just might try one.

Happy Thanksgiving, Jocelyn! I'm glad your turkey roasted up just right and you had a lovely meal! Your Dresdens look wonderful - I love the fabric you used for the centers. I think to "just keep moving" is the best advice for all of us at this age. That's even what my new doctor said to me the other day when we were talking about knee issues - keep moving!

My sewing room is a mess. I wish I had a closet to hide it all in. Glad your turkey turned out as it was supposed to. Your stitching project is coming along nicely. I used to go to the gym when I worked. It was a great stress reliever. Now I admit that I don't do anything cardio.

Sounds like your Thanksgiving was just perfect. It is my favorite holiday, because like you I love cooking this meal, and because there is none of the "pressure" of Christmas. Your turkey is beautiful and that dessert looks wonderful! Did you cook your pears and figs?
After your last post I Googled Thanksgiving in Canada and was surprised to find out yours was the first Thanksgiving in North America!

I love your quilts. I love that 'accidentally!'

Glad the frozen turkey turned out so good. That closet just needs some shelves and it will be easier to get to what you need. I like the Dresdens. Another technique I've never tried. I like the look, but appliquing pieces down has never been my thing.

Your turkey looks wonderful! Glad it worked out. I'm on an organization kick in my sewing space too (enforced when I don't have a working sewing machine) and I'm downsizing my embroidery patterns...hopefully from two overstuffed 2" binders into one. Fingers crossed!

First let me say Thank You for your visit to my blog. I appreciate that you left a comment to let me know you were there. I need to work on some organization of my sewing room! Each time I enter I feel I would rather work on a project instead. Silly me thinking that by working on a project it will get me that much closer to a tidy room. I have so many projects in waiting. I am trying harder to work with what I have and not be so quick to start something new. I have a large quilts worth of Dresden Blocks made; I need to cut the blocks for the backings. Applique is not something I have really tried before; but hope to someday. From your food, to your flowers, and on to the sewing room...I have enjoyed my visit with you today. I look forward to visiting you again often.
