Free Quilting Patterns 2020 Style, Winter Projects, Icy World

One word for the weather lately, icy! But I'm not complaining. It has been mild and with cleats on our boots, we are good to go.  Ice rimed everything for several days; it weighed down the trees, broke small branches and turned the pond into an ice rink.
I need to update you about ongoing BOM's for 2020; it is always fun to take a look at the free ones with a hearty thank you to designers and their generosity in sharing.  Here are a few more links to check out. It's safe to say there is something out there for everyone. Or as the Spinster Stitcher puts it, to blow up your skirt. (I've been following Connie for years now.)

Barbara Backman will be offering a free BOM in two ways...pieced or appliqued.  Called Yankee Notions you can check it out here. Many of you enjoyed Hospital Sketches last year.

Suzy's Sitcom is offering a free bench pillow sized pattern for each month of the coming year.
First up is this one...nothing like a bright cardinal to catch the eye.

Snuggles Quilts is also generously offering this free BOM for 2020.  Details are here and it looks to be primitive style-interesting.

At Stitching the Night Away, cross stitchers can find a comprehensive list of SAL' s for 2020.  I need to take my time to look through them,-there are so many, some free, others not.
I have another motif finished on my cross stitch project, Swirling Flowers.
Cross Stitched flowers and motifs in Pinks, Lavenders and Blues
I would have had more done but had to spend a session unsewing. I'd incorrectly assumed if one of the spokes was 10 blocks, all of them were. After finishing the whole outline, realized that was not the pattern, some are 8.  If I am one block off, my rule is I'm okay to leave it (depending on where it is), but two or more, no, can't do it.
It is our monthly SAL link up party hosted by Avis at Sewing Beside the Sea ...We are now heading into a new year together!

A little winter scrap project I'm appliquing is this one I'm calling, not very imaginatively,  Little Cabin in the Woods.  Still testing out fabrics and colours, etc.  Hope to make it long enough for one of the side tables. This is fulfilling a promise to myself to work on smaller projects this year.
A Christmas present- Anybody else Bob's Burgers fans?
So think of me, the world outside my windows snowy white, as I sit here cosy inside waiting for supper to finish reheating...a combination of Thursday's chicken and rice and yesterday's Indian food.

Hope the first week of the brand new year finds you all off to a great start.

I can handle snow but I hate ice although it is pretty - it always seems to take down power lines in Arkansas. That is a very pretty stitchery you are doing

I am so much a wuss when it comes to ice and if I can manage to wrangle staying inside I will. I saw that pretty bench cover and promptly had thoughts of how I could make something to cover our bench in our front hall and then I remembered that I would be spending more time picking it up off the floor than I likely would making it. Then I thought about how I could anchor it in place so it would stay. And then I thought how much I love the look of natural wood and that was the end of it. All that in the space of two seconds!!

Your Little Cabin in the Woods is going to be darling, Jocelyn! You know I am loving trees in fabric lately. Thanks for listing some of the neat sew alongs that are available - there are so many fun possibilities out there!

Let's hear it for not-quite-nice weather --- hip! hip! hooray! More time for sewing!

In Germany we will get 11-15 C already... this is not good at all and I wish we could have some frost and snow.

That ice is horrid. I just haven't felt like getting out and about. Even with cleats. It's just not relaxing. Having been under the weather for weeks, I just can't chance an injury.
I love your cabin in the woods. You do beautiful work.

We have had mostly snow so far, thank goodness! Your new projects look like a happy mix of fun and challenge. The cross stitch is looking gorgeous, even with the frogging, you made some nice progress!

It's pure perfection... snow falling, fun puzzle on the table, hand stitching, Indian food... my perfect day!

I am such a weather wimp, that just looking at the ice in your pictures make me want to huddle in the corner! Your stitching looks so nice and I love the cabin applique you are making.

Your icy world does look beautiful! I rather love the title "Little Cabin in the woods". Lots and lots of fun applique to be done there.

Your ice photos are beautiful. It seems like I'm not out and about when we have those rare ice storms here. Glad to see your photos.
That quilt from Snuggles Quilts looks so inviting. I love the grey-ish background.

Ice storms are the worst, it's been too warm for them here this year. Your Cabin in the Woods layout looks great, love your color choices for it. Happy stitching this week.

The last ice storm I experienced was when we lived in Oklahoma. We didn't lose any trees but many in the city were damaged. They are so beautiful! I don't really miss them, but I do miss the cold. I love reading about your cold weather and reheating leftovers - it sounds so cozy!
I read all the cross stitch-alongs and looked through all the free ones. Now I'll go back and look at the paid ones to see if there is one that interests me. I like the blog "Stitching the Night Away" and have added it to my blog list, so thanks for that info.

Living in theDeep South, I can’t even fathom dealing with all of that snow! The links to all of those BOMs tempts me, but Mary Brown is really keeping me busy. I do enjoy following Barbara’s posts. She amazes me. Keep your toes warm!

Jocelyn - so thrilled to have you back at Mosaic Monday! It has been snowing here all day and it is forecast to continue for several days. No complaints from those of who love the winter season and all its sports! I am excited to check out the patterns for cross-stitchers. Your Little Cabin in the Woods is a lovely way to use up scraps! Happy New Year, friend!

Many great links, thanks for that! Love your Swirling flowers!

Thanks for sharing all those links -- I am trying to be disciplined and only work on projects I already have as kits (whether store-bought or self-assembled) ... but I see things like this and think, well, I *probably* have some fabric that would work... ;) Great progress on your swirling flowers project, too!

Magpie Sue said...

I may have to check out some of those monthly projects you've found for us - you trouble maker! Too bad about the reverse stitching you had to do. Sometimes changes just have to be made though. Here's to a happy and healthy 2020. :-)

Thanks for the links to BOMs. LOVE your "Little Cabin in the Woods" design. I hope to work on smaller projects in the coming year, too... as soon as I finish two bigger ones that are already in the works. Enjoy your cozy days indoors!

Have you seen Aurifil's "Collecting Colors SAL"? It's a darling cross stitched quilt! I can't wait for it to start! I'll keep up with both the Yankee Notions and the Cassandra's Circle -- that Barbara Brackman is so prolific!
