4 Favourite Things in One Picture, Autumn Pinks, Turkey Soup

This is Thursday, a lovely day to look back at the week and contemplate the weekend ahead. Thursday was my second favourite weekday...Friday being #1 signaling the work week ending. I used to say 4 pm on Friday was my all time favourite moment in a week.

Here is Neddy enjoying one of many walks down the deciduous tree lined path at the back of the property. This borders acres of undeveloped land so there are many trails to enjoy. Overnight it seems to have become leaf lined; lately the leaves are falling like snow.

I happened to step behind the Smoke tree and was treated to this view of pinks and reds.

Here's a little close up. Autumn pinks are so pretty.

After Thanksgiving turkey comes the soup.  I added a can of my favourite tomatoes, San Marzano, to this one. I could have fed a platoon with this pot full. I always seem to make a lot of soup.
Below I've had this out in sight, in fact walk past it many times a day, but have I put in a stitch? No I have not, not one. But I will soon. The witch is waiting, beckoning to me (that would be creepy so hope she isn't, :). Actually I find her a little nostalgic as she looks like the witches we would have had in school and colouring books when I was a girl.

Four favourite things are in this bottom photo.

We bought this very heavy brass German Shepard figurine at an auction for a couple of dollars. It is a loving reminder of the most loyal dog I ever had, Rex. Still very much in our thoughts.

The large pink carrying case holds my Hawk Run Hollow cross stitch project and everything I need to work on it, A Year At Hawk Run Hollow. With the warm day time temperatures I got to stitch on the veranda two days this week. I think that is the latest I've ever been able to do that. Amazing!

I love applique and have a few books that I look through and dream about. That one, Template Free Applique by Katie Friesen, has easy to follow directions and simple but effective drawings. Katie is probably better known for her book, Expressions of Morris, which gives you an idea of what style of applique she enjoys. Do you do that?  Enjoy looking through your books, dreaming about what you could stitch.

My journal for 2021 is nearing the end. I've enjoyed this soft covered one with the peaches and pears  by Punch Studio very much. Lots of pouches and opens so you can see the whole week over two pages without turning a page. I've been keeping track of my wish lists, shows watched, books read, purchases, gifts, events, blog posts, etc. All of it handy information for forgetful me. Journals and Notebooks by Punch Studio where I'll be looking for another one soon, God willing, as my grandmother used to say.

I'm off now to take Neddy for his second walk of the day. He is the best excuse we could have to keep moving.

I have thought once again to get a journal for the next year to keep track of progress on projects, ideas and such but each time I get one after the first 4 weeks or so it gets set aside and I forget about it - should I or shouldn't I - do you find you use yours daily.
I like to make soup but I think I need to start making the pasta or grain (if used) that would be used in small amounts and added to each bowl as when they are left over they swell so much and take over the soup - do you do that?

Rex was a very handsome dog indeed, and I certainly enjoyed reading about his adventures in your blog. The dog figurine is a lovely reminder. And I also recall the other part of the duo, Murphy, was she called? Our pets never leave our hearts.
I often look at our Birman Gemma and remember our previous cat Muffy, both completely different personalities.

What a lovely journal!!! The colours are so soft and welcoming.

I imagine that the witch is calling you to add some stitches.

God bless.

Great likes. Your leaves are much brighter than mine, ours are more yellow and golden this year, no reds or oranges. Yay for walks with Ned, keep moving! Your turkey soup looks yummy.

I envy you those lovely walks right outside your door! How pretty, and having a walk with Neddy sounds grand. I've made some soups lately too, with the fall weather nipping a bit. Nice post!

Jocelyn - gorgeous, warm, autumn colors! Belated Happy Thanksgiving! I am starting to get into the holiday mood - cooler temps always bring that on for me. I am always a little sad to see another year come to an end, but a crisp, blank journal sends shivers of excitement through me --- who knows what the new year will bring?

Happy Belated Thanksgiving Jocelyn! It looks like you had a day to be especially grateful for! I just love that Halloween themed quilt. Is it a wall hanging? The owl is awesome and you're right about that witch looking like she is from our childhood! Such a beautiful testimony to Rex. Have a safe and happy weekend!

I love that view of Neddy on that tree-lined path. I agree that autumn pinks are the prettiest. That soup it looks so good! I think Thanksgiving leftovers are my favorite. I like them even more than the actual meal. Yes I look through books and dream about what I'd like to make. In my dream I finish each project right after I start it in my neat and clean studio - what a fantasy - lol! My daughter has gifted me with a pretty little journal for 2022, and I am determined to use it.

Resident Chef always starts out with one soup pot and by the time he's done adding to it there's often two big pots. Good thing we have a freezer! We've been for two drives over the past week - one to get apples on a very dull rainy day and therefore not good for pictures and the other was yesterday which started out sunny but then promptly turned dull. The area we explored had mainly poplars so mostly yellows and not the spectacular reds we had seen the day before. No pictures once again....sigh.

The colors of the leafs are so pretty, they are still pretty green over here in the Netherlands. Love the brass German Shepard.

Do I look through books of pictures of quilts and dream about what I could stitch? Do I breathe?😊 And if not books, then quilts on Instagram and Pinterest! Lovely post!

well lets start with that pic of Ned... astounding photography! It tells a story. I want the little journal. I track things I want to read or watch but like your list of what you have seen more. That pouch looks like one of the zippered bags Mary in Peoria told us about once, I immediately sent for some and love them to organize our projects too.
we'll end with turkey soup, the best smell and I'd like a big bowl please

Fall colors of the woods look amazing in your photos. Sure the dog is happy to walk there. I am looking forward to your finished quilt!

That soup look absolutely delish! For some reason I have never added tomato to a turkey soup. I may just have to try that!

Your autumn colours are gorgeous. Kicking leaves is still something I love to do. They bring out the kid in me. Your soup looks nice and hearty. Just what you want as the weather cools down. Rex was the name of one of my grandmother’s dogs. He was a fine fellow too. A great find at the auction.

I enjoyed reading your whole story. I really love that figurine! I recommend the Chet & Bernie mystery series by Spencer Quinn--told from the viewpoint of Chet the German Shepherd. The first book in the series is "Dog On It".
