Three Free Patterns, Favourite Summer Spot, Panama Pyramids, Flight of Fancy Progress

August 25 view of the pond.
In the midst of all the pleasures of this property is this little pond, I sit down here most summer mornings with my camera and Ned beside me. Both of us looking, looking, looking. Me for birds- haven't a clue what he is looking for but he keeps his head on a swirl and seems to enjoy the experience as well. We don't speak and seem to hold our breaths waiting for something great to appear/happen. It always seems we are both reluctant to finally give in, leave the peace and quiet, head back to the house and breakfast for Ned and coffee for me.

As a matter of interest, you can visit a number of other calming sites on YouTube that offer live cams around the world. Like this one.  You could check out if your city is featured.
Thanks for the enabling(as if I needed it :D) that went on concerning the Pileated Woodpecker cross stitch pattern! Overwhelming number of you think I should order it. THIS POST

Meanwhile, here are a few more of the Panama Pyramid blocks sewn together...these are EPP so taking time. I have no deadline in mind for this project, just keep the triangles prepped and ready to pick up and stitch here and there. My goal each month is to stitch 6 of these together and so far this year I'm doing that.  This is such a great project to use up scraps and kind of have fun with.

And I have the Crabapple Hill Design's Flight of Fancy blocks sewn together; it is a flimsie which was my Elm Street Quilts August OMG. I followed Meg's guide and sewed 13 four patch blocks using reds and tans/creams. Simple stitching.
I need to choose the fabrics for the borders now. Ned is pointing out I have two striped blocks adjacent and he doesn't like it. What do you think?

Thursday's Three Free

I love Marcus fabrics and one of their lines in particular caught my eye. Aunt Grace Sew Charming by Judie Rothermel.  It features soft colours and prints, kind of reproduction style but many that would blend with more "modern" style fabrics.  Two of the free patterns that I liked using that line was this one called the Aunt Grace Sew Charming Heart quilt.  Here is the link to the PDF

And the second one is this Aunt Grace Sew Charming Flower Quilt-
I found all this to love at the Hancocks of Paducah site.

Further digging and I discovered Judie's home is the Schoolhouse Quilt Shoppe in Canton, Ohio. A lovely site to explore and I came across her book, Aunt Grace Scrapbag 10th Anniversary on sale presently. It features 15 patterns for full size quilts.

Susan at the very popular Quilt Fabrication site has a wonderful bank of free patterns both blocks and quilts as well as tutorials to guide you through.  Click Here to explore. Susan graciously hosts the weekly linky party Midweek MakersSusan's Etsy Shop is HERE and I really like her dog patterns in particular.

Melissa at  Pinker 'n Punkin Quilting is hosting a very cute Mystery Autumn Stamp SAL with free to you cross stitching patterns. The first is a beautiful basket of apples.  These are small so quick to finish. Perfect moving into autumn stitching for us here in the northern hemisphere.

Hope you found something that tweaked your interest on your visit today. I'm off back outside with garden chores. I've noticed the purple fall asters are opening. Summer is definitely waning.

oh! your image and description of each morning's visit made me sigh. Ned is a good boy and companion. I love the sentence, I don't know what he's looking for...
dh and I sit on our patio, and stare out and don't speak for long periods of time. The same view and annoyances that neighborhood living bring. But we are somehow looking for what ever is there. Seeking peace and safety in our world.

As always, your property photos are magical to me. I can picture you and Ned sitting on the banks of that pond, so peaceful. Those Panama Pyramid blocks look so good together! It's nice to have a project with no deadline, just enjoyment. I love Flights of Fancy! I think sweet Ned is being a little picky and think the stripes are fine together. No matter how hard I try I always end up with the same fabrics together at some point when I try to be random!

your pond area looks so peaceful and relaxing - do you not have trouble with mosquitoes though? you are lucky if you don't - love all the projects you are working on. Susan does have a good site for sure

As a matter of fact, Karen, the mosquitoes are gone by this time of the summer. It really is the best thing about summer shutting down.

Your pond looks so inviting. I too love sitting on my deck watching the water for whatever may appear. Thanks for the lovely FREE pattern sites. I really like that Aunt Grace Sew-Flower Quilt. I just happen to have a bunch of FQs looking for a quilt! Hahaha! Give Ned a pat on the head from me. Love a good dog!

That's such a lovely view of your pond there, Jocelyn! I would enjoy the birdwatching opportunities there, too. Ned sounds like such a lovely companion! I love the Panama Pyramids - I bet they are fun to play with. And your Flight of Fancy blocks with the 4 patches are a lovely combination!

Your beautiful pond really is such a tranquil looking place. 8ts lovely that you and Ned sit there together enjoying the beauty. Do you have a seat or bench down there to sit on? And yes, I'm with Ned on the question about the two striped squares side by side, you really need to unpick the 4 patch and turn it around. Bet you've done that already.

What a lovely spot to sit and calm ones soul. I can see why you and Ned enjoy your morning visits.

Love the quilt you have finished, and I am of the mind that if the two striped squares don't bother you leave them. I know I always make sure to have at least one error somewhere in what I make because I feel that nothing is perfect except for one being.

God bless.

That pond is such a pretty scene, I could sit there for hours too. Your quilts are always so beautiful.

I love the pond you have on your property, and the image in my head of you and Ned sitting, waiting. On our acreage in Alberta we had two ponds, a big one directly behind us, and 'The Hidden Pond' through the forest on a little trail we made. The girls would skate there in winter. There are so many lovely free patterns put out by fabric companies! I've found some terrific ones at AGF too. I had to look twice to find the two striped blocks that Ned is pointing out, so it's not really noticeable, but if it bugs you, take it out, because it will never NOT bug you if you leave it!

Love your peaceful pond....sitting by the water with your friend Ned, what could be better?

Your blog never ceases to inspire me Jocelyn! I am loving the Flight of Fancy quilt so much! The four patches really set off your wonderful embroidery! The pyramid quilt may be taking a long time but so worth it! It's really looking amazing! As always, thank you for the free patterns. I love that scrappy heart quilt!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Your pond is so inviting no wonder you love sitting our there with Ned. You must see a ton of birds. I had to go check out your post with the pileated cross stitch...oh yes I agree you should do that one! We think it is such a treat to see them flitted about in the trees.

Love seeing your panama pyramids blocks slowly coming together. Hand stitched blocks can be such a relaxing project! I pieced one of these blocks together and decided it's just not for me at the moment so I'm going to enjoy yours from afar!:)

What a lovely pond you have. I could enjoy that, too as long as there were no mosquitoes.

Your Panama Pyramid blocks are beautiful. It will certainly be colorful when you finish it.

I love that Flight of Fancy quilt. I think if Ned hadn't literally pointed to the block, no one would have noticed! This is going to be a stunning quilt when finished, despite what Ned thinks (grin).

“My” pond isn’t really mine and is about a 10 minute walk away, so I don’t visit it as often, but I, too, enjoy the peace and quiet and the chance to see something interesting. A couple weeks ago there were 3 river otters in it! I love how your “pyramids” are coming along - I think I might try making them with a FPP technique instead of EPP. Enjoyed a few minutes with the live web cam! Thanks for this and other links!

Just love your Panama Pyramids.....even more so as it is an EPP project!

Lovely post! How wonderful to have a special place for you and Ned to go. I love sitting beside water of any kind. Pond, creek, lake, river! Can you tell I’m a water sign? Flights of Fancy is so pretty, but I agree with Sandra. If the 2 adjacent stripes bother you the fix it. It would be easy to do on this particular one. But I didn’t see it til you mentioned it.
Thanks for the links to the free patterns, I have downloaded Melisa’s Mystery Autumn Stamp SAL. They are adorable!

The Aunt Grace Scrapbag looks like a fun project! How have I not seen it before?!? The quilting world is full of such treasures. Have a good week, thanks for joining the Put Your Foot Down Linky Party :-)

What a beautiful spot to sit. Love it. The two adjacent stripes sort of stand out to me, but if it doesn't bother you, leave it. Thanks so much for the links to the free patterns! Hope you have a great week!

I am back to walking (sweating) in the mornings, and after my walk I sit in my chair on the porch with the huge fan blowing on me to cool off. That is my time to sit and just listen to the birds and think or listen to a Podcast!

Are you getting any email notifications from me on my Posts? I cannot get anymore emails from you or Kathy. Bloglovin has gone belly up. When I put my emails in it comes up in “follow it”. I have lost Kathy and Linda, Think I have Linda back.

I love your pond, triangles, and the sweet embroidery quilt with the squares! I found a lot of the free patterns from Paducah last week and downloaded them. But I did not see Aunt Grace and I have tons of her fabric. So I like this one. Thx for the heads up!

Hugs

Thank you Nanette, I've gone through the links again and updated so hope this one will work best. Luckily, Hancock's has a fairly easy site to navigate.
