March, someone said, is the triumph of hope over experience...not unlike second marriages as somebody else said. So here we are cruising along through the month and I'm going to ignore the major snow and ice storm warning we have on the horizon. Perhaps it will not materialize; they've gotten these predictions wrong before. However, just to be on the safe side, I've filled both tubs in case we lose the power.
The way down through the big woods path has opened up and I've been taking Ned there adding a further loop to our daily walks. He's been loving all the new to him smells down there.
Indoors I'm feeling good about how I'm moving along several stitchy projects. Like my cross stitch piece, Quakers In England. I'm enjoying laying these tiny stitches. It's so satisfying to complete a little design. Sorry, I just can't seem to get a good photo of this that shows the true colours. That red is a cherry red and there is lavender there too.
And more of the Basket Love bottoms have been appliqued too. I'm enjoying choosing the fabrics for this. Two more thrifted men's shirts in this lot. Can you guess which two?
I don't particularly follow politics and I never talk about it here on the blog. But after much consideration, I'll share this bit of news and for a couple of reasons...knowledge is power and it's something else worrying me and as you all know, I do share my feelings here in this space. A friend visited one day with sad news of Canadians getting harassed at the Canada/US border to the point of them turning around. There are many living in border towns who have been crossing for decades to work or do a shop and have dinners in Ogdensburg, NY, for instance. We have done that ourselves. We all found the news depressing and worrisome too. We wondered where is this all going. There just seems to be so much more unpleasantness generally in the world these days. But then a country always has the right to defend its own border whichever way or whatever form that might take. So be it I guess.
It's making me think I should move back home to Newfoundland...being an island there are no borders. :) And that reminds me, we are following a couple who are starting to homestead on an island off the coast of Newfoundland, yes, an island off an island in the Atlantic. We have watched all Matty's past videos of him crossing the Arctic Circle in a boat he built himself and of his time living in the Labrador wilderness too. He is an unbelievably resourceful and hard working fellow. He met Kelly on an alpaca farm in Virginia, US- of all places, and fell in love. They are genuine and sweet together...and providing just the kind of entertainment that's needed in the world these days. And Ned is envious of the life Ronnie, their dog, is living too.
On that bright note, I'll leave you today. Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend and your stitchy fingers are flying!

I, along with many, many other Americans, hate what this jerk of a president is doing to our country and yours and the rest of the world as well!
Your cross stitchery is just lovely--I could make out those lavender and red hues. You do such beautiful work;))) I've never done counted cross stitch, but I do admire those patterns...
Hope all goes well for your DH at his appointment...
Our world, here in USA, as we've known it, is quickly vanishing!!
Very worrisome...hugs, Julierose
I'm worried to about what is happening to the US and I hope it doesn't get too much crazier but I think he really wants to isolate us, just know it is not the majority of the people in the US that feel this way most of us hate how this is going and wish we could get him out of office. Good luck on Tony's appointments and hope he doesn't loose too much more strength.
I think I tried cross stitch way back in the dark ages, or when I was a LOT younger, but decided it wasn't my best choice. Tony, hang in, Monday will be here soon. Life as we knew it has gone in the US, and for so many countries, Canada too, it is changing so rapidly.I can only hope that in the next US election many millions will vote the other way. Yr.no tells me we are 13C, but it feels cooler.
it isn't safe here in the US - not for tourists, for foreign students, not for anyone with a visa or green card ... it isn't even safe for American citizens who can prove that they have citizenship - people are being disappeared because they are brown or black or Asian or they have tattoos or they wear a head scarf or they were overheard speaking a language other than English - no charges filed, no due process ... it's a nightmare that won't end till the non-political average American person who just wants to live and let live has had enough and rises up to say, "this will not stand" ... this is your blog and you live in a free country - you can avoid politics and confrontation - but please know that America is not the democratic country of law and order and human rights that it was two months ago and it won't be safe till the rule of law is reestablished and good people stand up for themselves and their neighbors
Many of us here in the US are as appalled as you are about what is going on in our country. The lawlessness and inhumanity are unbelievable. No one in authority seems to be able to stop it as the Congress sit on their hands (or cheer what is happening) and court rulings are being ignored and violated.
Wishing Tony positive thoughts.
Or, and your photos through the trees are amazing. Good that you get out each day with Ned for fresh air and exercise.
Pat
Well, that's a storm, more on the way!
I hope Tony is OK.
P.S. i watched the living off grid-video--amazing work they are doing...such a lovely couple...thanks for sharing that link...
Sorry to hear about the border problems. As an American I still love Canada but I don't love the current administration. And just so you know, I didn't vote for him, 1/2 of the country didn't and now I bet the other half wish they didn't.
Lovely stitching as usual, Jocelyn. I love that little free pattern. Thanks for the link.
Yes our world is changing, I have heard of snowbirds who have lived in the south being yelled at or spit on. It is actually vey soul destroying.
God bless.
Those first 2 photos are frame-worthy Jocelyn! I hope Tony gets some positive help for his issues, I'll pray for him. Your potential adventure in Newfoundland sounds promising!
Love the Josh & Kelly channel! It is mind blowing how much work he did clearing out that house. They are fun to watch.
It is bothersome to me that people hassling others have a choice not to. There is no executive order I know of that tells workers (who still have a job) to be mean like their boss. Also, farmers suffer when their produce is trashed. I think folks can think about that better. I will continue to buy Canadian products.

Loved your first two photos. . .especially the angle of the second! Your cross-stitch is gorgeous! I too hope Tony gets some answers. Kudos for me to continue doing his usual even though it takes him longer. I hope we will be able to all get along one day. . .it probably won't be tomorrow though. . .
Lovely cross stitch Jocelyn! Hope Tony gets some good news!
Such beautiful blue skies you're showing us, Jocelyn! I loved that Quaker cross-stitch from FQS, so I downloaded it for myself. It will be fun to give it a try! Thank you for finding lovely free patterns and sharing with all of us. I am terribly concerned about our current administration's talk about Canada. It's so horrendous when we have been friends, neighbors, and allies for so long. I'm sorry. Sending good thoughts for you and Tony as you navigate these next steps. Hugs!
Sending love and hugs 💐x
My husband and I have been watching Matty and Kelly, too! I'm so glad they post new videos on a Sunday night as it is nice to start the week on such a positive note. Their channel reminds me of the same warm feelings of watching the Waltons years ago.
Tony sounds like a real trooper -- may he find answers and help soon. I am so disheartened about the turn USA has taken. It is awful to have our two countries being at odds. I doubt everyday Americans agree with harassing Canadians. Please keep letting us know how you are being impacted.
Love the trees and blue sky. Good luck with Tony's appointment. Lots of nice stitching. :-)
I hope you got some good news today. Those baskets are lovely. I shutter at the world we are currently living in... mind if I go up there with you? This is not the world I wanted for my children.
Your cross stitch is beautiful. And I love your block – it reminds me of ice cream cones when I look at it :-)) We have wonderful ice cream cones at our ice cream parlors with whipped cream, fruit, etc.
Thanks for the video, it's so much fun to watch, especially since it has an AI translator.
Best regards and hug.
Your walk in the woods seems like it was so peaceful. It is hard to wrap my head around what is going on in the USA. I didn't vote for the orange one and I am appalled at what is going on. I have been to Canada several times and everyone was wonderful! The orange one is a sociopath and they are impossible to deal with. My sister was also a sociopath so I have had experience in this area. All we can do is fight back by protesting and electing anyone in every big and small position someone who is not maga. I am so sorry to read that Canadians are being mistreated and harassed at the border. Canada is not the enemy. Keep your elbows up and push back against the bully! He will cave! I wish you all the best to find a place where you can be at peace.
I hope you survived the ice storm alright! I wish Tony all the best for his health.
Please be sure that your husband is checked for heart block . He may need a pacemaker. This does not necessarily show up on ang ECG, My husband (age 90)) was in otherwise good health. He continued getting more and more tired till he actually lost consciousness at dinne per just two weeks ago. Sent to hospital it was tdiscovered that he had 2 degree heart block and a pacemaker was put in. He already can feel the improvement in his energy. This can be missed with routine checkups and will not show up on lab work.
I wrote you about the heart block. Feel free to contact me at larsonv@ sasktel.net if you wish. I am also an old nurse. Verna Larson in Saskatoon
You are making some nice progress on your projects. I hope the weather didn't get too bad for you.
