Littler grandson had his birthday party with his friends and I got to dress up for it. It was fun to wear a long black and silver wig and help corral 10 little costumed boys through the games and food, etc. They had a ball and I was very surprised at two things- how mannerly they all were. There were lots of pleases and thank yous which the moms and dads were happy to hear about. And how much fruit they ate. After bobbing for apples, most of them ate at least one and we had put together fruit spears with grapes, strawberries and cantaloupe which all got gobbled up.
Daughter made his cake as usual. That was a hit too. If her day job doesn't work out for her, she can always fall back on cake making. :)
November will be busy in the sewing room and I'm looking forward to filling those steadily darkening days.
I love this basket and the project I'm corralling there these days. One of my stitchy goals is to make 10 more of these Dresden blocks.
Another goal is to have all the blocks completed for the Autumn project. Here are two more I'm making presently. Anybody know the names of these?
I love how my mums are still so vibrant. I moved them close to the house and inside one night to avoid a frost warning. I'm looking up whether or not I can overwinter them inside. Anyone know?
Who knew our small garage was part of a mice highway!I brought in the humane mouse trap to give a good cleaning in the basement laundry tub. I have caught two more mice in it. I find them cute with their big ears and they are like the mice at the old farm, some soft grey and others brown with white underneath. Pretty colours. But I didn't know it was going to be a part time job looking after this!
I had a Blogger/computer glitch with Tuesday's post. The final version is out there somewhere in the internet universe but I can't reach it even after an hour trying and bringing in the big gun, hubby, to help out. On the upside it gave this old brain a workout!

Hello, I like your Halloween costume and the cake looks great. Sounds like a nice party for your grandson and his friends. We are catching some mice now too, I guess they want inside since it is getting colder. Happy Halloween, Enjoy your day!
I never was one for dressing up in costume - I don't have the imagination for it. The cake is delightful! I'm afraid you are much kinder to mice than I am - we have only had mice in the house a couple times and I put out the mice poison - there are no pets in the house or small children so I feel comfortable doing that. When we first moved in this house the people told us there were a couple mice that were so cute - they really were naive - there were a lot of mice and we had it cleared out in no time flat - we are in the country and you have to stay on top of it or those field mice take over - all holes were found along floor boards or where ever and blocked!
Great costume. I am not one to dress up. LOL your humane mice trapping has become a task. I was told if they are "hardy" mums that they can actually be planted and will come back the following year.
Love your costume--and that cake is just amazing!! Funny since our power outtages I've not been able to post pictures...must be a goblin in the ether-net lol hugs, Julierose
I enjoy Halloween and I teach in a primary school, so we have a lot of fun with it. Thanks for linking up today and I hope to see you again soon.
Your daughter definitely has a gift for cake decorating. I would not have recognized you with long hair! Great costume. Happy Halloween. mary P.S. That's a no on the mice. Ugh
wow you look completely different with long gray hair!!! Earth mother!(if only... you'd clean things up wouldn't you?) that cake is the best... what imagination!

Ho Jocelyn! It looks and sounds like you had a blast at the birthday party. LOVE that cake. No kidding that could be her full time job. Very impressive. I shared my mums that I wintered last year - you can do it. Just cut them back, give them water once a week with a little daylight and you'll be good to go. I can't wait to see your pretty yellow mums next year! They are very hardy and a perennial in all the warmer climates. I love your project basket - it looks so welcoming for picking up the project to continue working. ~smile~ Roseanne
I had problems with blogger yesterday, maybe doing some house cleaning and unplugged something?
Look how cute you look in your costume! That would be such fun to dress up and go to a party! I better the boys had a ball! That cake is amazing! WOW!
How great this cake is!!!!

Look at you!!! Are you the Wicked Witch of the West? Great cake and decorations.
I wondered what was wrong with the earlier post, just wouldn't appear. Never mind, you are back now
One year when I was teaching, the favorite Halloween party treat was fresh cucumbers right out of one mom's garden! That really surprised me! I also have great memories of making my kids' Halloween costumes many years - I miss those days. Cute cake and I love your Autumn blocks, too.
That's a fabulous cake! Happy Halloween from all of us!
Oh, that cake is far out! I love dressing up for Halloween. What fun!
That is indeed an amazing cake! I'm with you, the best way to chase away the darkness is to have a great sewing project! I think you can bring the mum inside; I have found memories of going out late at night to "rescue" a geranium from the campus flower beds. We kept it all winter and it bloomed a long time!
LOVE your costume!! And oh my gosh that cake - WOW. I am so impressed, I can't even do a two-layer regular cake, lol, they're always lopsided!!! (But they taste ok....) Your projects are great, and the mums so pretty!
That cake does look amazing! What little kid (adults too!) wouldn't love it. Your daughter could certainly have a side business selling them.
Great costume and love that cake! Your quilt are blocks are nice too....orange and black quilts are always very eye catching. I've planted mums in my yard (here in NJ) and they return the following year...so, I think that if you repot that mum (more dirt will give the roots more nutrients).....it just might overwinter in a basement.
You look smashing in that costume! The cake--wow--your daughter should be in a British Bake Off! Wow! Roseanne at Home Sewn By Us just posted that she overwintered her mums in doors so I think you could too! Not sure of the name of the blocks, they might be considered variation blocks as in variations of economy block and rail fence. They sure are pretty!
You make a very pretty witch. :) Your daughter's cake is magnificent! I love your fall blocks. My oldest grandkids will choose fresh fruit over sweets any day of the year, and they are teens and one 20-year old!
You look great as a witch! Halloween is always a fun time. That cake looks professional. Your leaf blocks look complete with their stems. The mums are so pretty! Hope you had a Happy Halloween!
