Happy Scrappy Project and Halloween Stitching

Our beautiful golden maple tree viewed through the back stairway window.  The orange has faded to yellow.  Even on a dull day, it looks like it is lit up.

Here it is from the front veranda.  It is very old but still puts on quite a display.
I feel awed each time I glimpse it on my way to the sewing room.
I've been giving my hand stitching a little attention this weekend. So far I've stitched two of the six designs from Buttermilk Basin.  I'm using basic back stitch and running stitch for the yellow and orange.
As I mentioned the designs are very simple. I haven't done embroidery like this in a long time.
Here is the one in hand for today.
I'll be trying to work out how to incorporate these in my autumn quilt project.
I've also spent time organizing and sewing more of the Dresdens.  I've got 45 blocks made and need more. This is the most happy, scrappy project ever.
Below the view from my sewing room window just before our first overnight frost. That's a little stained glass of the pitcher plant, the provincial flower of my home province, Newfoundland and Labrador. I love having little things around that are momentos of home. More especially now that such things do not give a tug on my heart.  Trees all around us here in our wooden house.

Mr. Toad showed up one day in the back yard looking like he wanted in the house. I found the line and bumps on his back interesting. (I know I'm weird like that.) They show he is an American Toad and looked very well fed.
It's a sunny Sunday here so long walks today.  Take Care all.

I am loving your dresden corners--what size are your blocks for this one?
Your tree is stunning--fluorescent against that blue blue sky. Our colors are all grayed off and muted this year--so far nothing brilliant...hugs, Julierose

Your maple, absolutely amazing, the height, and that colour. And the hostas, I found two yesterday that are just poking through, and more to come I hope. And I bought a small 4 inch high maple tree at a church garden fair on Saturday, I am now wondering if it will grow equally tall!!!

Your first photo looks like a gorgeous painting. What a view! I love those simple embroidery pictures. They remind me of pictures when I was a kid. Does that date me? Your dresden corners are so pretty. You are right, those are very happy, scrappy fabrics!

Magnificent tree in Autumn splendor. There's a beech tree in a neighboring yard that's just starting to show it's orange glory. We had a huge toad taking shelter in our garage this summer. Well, the garage is more an overgrown garden shed, hasn't seen a car in the 30 years we've lived here. Have a good week.

Good luck with your hand work. I've been transplanting and moving dirt before we freeze!

Jocelyn - that is a STUNNING maple tree - how blessed you are to have this within eyeshot! Your hostas look great for this time of year. When we lived in Cleveland, they would be shot full of holes by this time - my losing battle with slugs. Maybe I needed more toads like yours!

Love your fall tree colors - the leaves are all in the air here, falling to the ground, and the beautiful colors are now a blanket under each tree. Love the toad. He looks very happy.
