Flowering Bushes, Plaid Tilda Growing, Belle Isle Fabric, Pattern Testing

My garden time is happening earlier rather than later in the day. It always surprises me how much growth occurs even though the sun has been scarce and it has rained so much. Weeds love rain is my conclusion. But it is exercise, in fact moves most parts of the body in some way. But I notice the getting up and down is harder so now I bring out my little step stool to sit on.

There's a big difference between empty fatigue and genuine exhaustion. Life is short. Invest in meaningful activities that move you.  Marc and Angel Hack Life

So pleased that the flowering bushes I've planted are thriving and in bloom presently. They are such good value for your money. Here is one of three flowering Weigelias I've planted here. I always choose bright colours as they are Hubby's favourites. Quick question...do you think I should trim back those long shoots that have grown there? Maybe wait till it is finished blooming?
Plaid Tilda is getting large, larger than I'd originally thought it would be. I want it to be a good sized lap quilt and see it will definitely fit the bill. I hope to get all the rows, 31 of them, machine stitched this week. The edge gets trimmed straight when all the rows are sewn. Different.
I'm also using these pretty fabrics...Belle Isle from Minick and Simpson to test out a block for a quilt I've always wanted to make- a red, white and blue one.
The block I've tried is a Wheel Within A Wheel one featuring my favourite pattern, Dresden block.
That will be July machine stitching I think. So to do this week is sort that out and get my mind settled about it. Aren't the fabrics pretty!

My Dad used to say "onwards and upwards". My grandmother would preface every plan for the next day with "God willing". I always have lots of ideas regarding my stitching projects and also around the house and garden.
God Willing, I will never run out of ideas.
Hope there are lots of happy ideas swirling in your heads too!

Hi Jocelyn! Your link on Linda's website doesn't work - just an FYI. Maybe you can edit it and repaste your link or add a new one? I just click on Home, and here I am! Getting up and down is supposed to get harder, isn't it? Remember how you would just HOP up when you were a kid? And even in your 20s and 30s . . . well, I'm glad you enjoy gardening and are able to do it! I just ADORE Weigelias. I was just saying to Sue how pretty they are! Definitely wait to trim until it is done blooming. I have to do some as well. And last year I trimmed one way back and it is SO happy this year! It was half the size it was! Ooh, those new fabrics! I just loving seeing them in a stack like that. Slowly untie the ribbon, enjoy each print on its own and how nicely it goes with its neighbors. The Wheel Within a Wheel will be so pretty in those fabrics. God willing - I think that every single day when I say goodnight to be coworkers. I'll return tomorrow, God willing. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

I love that bundle of fabric that you have there! I too find gardening harder to do and have a stool that you can kneel on or your turn it over and sit on it about 2 feet above the ground - it has handles on it so you can help yourself up from a kneeling position. I don't always need it but if my hips are bad like they are currently from bursitis it helps me to get up. If you would like a link to it I will see if I can find it - I think I got it on Amazon

Loving your projects. That Tilda project is looking adorable and looking forward to see your dresden quilt! I do trim my weigelia all through the season. I find it reblooms after I trim it a bit. It's one of the hardiest flowering bushes I have! Have a lovely day!

Haha on the "God willing" and "onwards and upwards". Every time I told my Granny goodnight and "see you in the morning" she would say "I sure hope so", which was not what my young mind wanted to think about. ;) Plaid Tilda is just beautiful! I love all your pretty blooms. it is so hot here only the heat-loving plants are blooming.
Thank you for sharing with us at To Do Tuesday!

I love your Plaid Tilda, Jocelyn! I didn't realize it was sewn on point and then trimmed for straight edges. That will really change the finished look of it! Beautiful red, white, and blue bundle for your next project, too!

Your plaid Tilda is looking great! I love how turning blocks on point provides a totally different look!!
Your garden is beautiful, and, yes, I would agree to wait until the blooming finishes before pruning.
I have been using a stool to do my weeding for a long time now. That way, getting up is a breeze…

Your flowers are beautiful. I'm not familiar with them so can't offer any advice on pruning. Plaid Tilda is a very interesting pattern. Will be nice to see this one once your are finished. Love the Minick and Simpson fabrics for your wheel within a wheel block. I have a dresden ruler but haven't attempted to make any yet.

Your flowers are so pretty. I'm so glad you're still able to get out and take care of them, even if it's on your terms.:) Love the Dresdens! Still having Dresden ideas myself, one of them I'm pretty sure that I got from you!

My dad used to say "let's cross that bridge if we come to it" (apparently I was a worrier even in my youth!). Your weigelia is so pretty; I considered those for our yard, but I think I didn't have the right sun/shade for it or something. I'll admire yours! I also like how your Tilda is turning out, and that new fabric is lovely!

I have a few plants I'm waiting to bloom to properly identify them. I'm hoping they're not weeds! Onwards and upwards - makes me think of Narnia (although I think in the final book it was further up and further in. Lots of ideas swirling here!

Your shrubs and so beautiful - I tend to go for intense colours too and am thinking that I need to add a Weigelia to the mix. Looks like you are having fun with your quilts. Enjoy them both!

You have very pretty fabrics waiting - happy stitching! The life feels meaningful when one is passionate about something. Prune the weigelas after blooming, pretty and bright shrub!

Jocelyn - our spring has been colder and wetter than normal - when the sun does shine, you can see the difference in the plants in a single day! Beautiful pictures!

Pretty blooms makes us smile, I have never had a weigela so I am of no help on that. Your plaid is coming together very nice. New project-how fun!!!

I love anything Minnick & Simpson and Belle Isle is no exception. Such gorgeous fabric. Your Plaid Tilda is amazingly simple and amazingly beautiful. Your weigela bushes are lovely. We have a wine & roses variety. Hummingbirds love those bushes! Onwards and upwards!
