Flower Basket Runner, Family Times, Quiltmania Blocks

I guess the humidity and high temperatures are good for flowers. I've never had such huge blooms on the Hydrangeas...totally smothering flowers I've planted around them. I must make a note to move these in the fall.

The wonderful Day Lilies are blooming. There are many scattered about.
Tony turned 84 last week and we had a wonderful family celebration for him. He enjoyed the attention and especially the food. Bruschetta to start and then a steak and shrimp meal most of it barbequed by SIL, Brad, with sides by Beth, the cake maker.

He doesn't like to smile as he thinks his smile is goofy looking.

Beth's cake, a four layer chocolate, was delicious. Italian buttercream frosting.
I've been feeling productive in the garden and in the house too this summer. Keeping myself very, very busy. As mentioned before lots of sorting going on in the Sewing room as well- taking stock, as it were. And recently I treated myself to some stitchy mail, a fat quarter bundle of Sundance by Crystal Manning for Moda.
Very flowery and to me an autumn look. A nice change from the reds and pinks of summer '23. It is excellent quality fabric too.
I spent an enjoyable evening stitching quilting lines on this table topper. I debated how to arrange this basket and also use other of the smaller Solidarity blocks.
Finally settled on this arrangement. I'm so pleased to use Tone Finnanger's, the talent behind the Tilda brand, smaller flower blocks on the sides.
I like her EPP flower block very much and would love to make a bigger project with it. With more practice now, I could do a better job of stitching the pieces- I think.
Here is the link to the Quiltmania post which includes the templates to stitch all the blocks. The directions, etc. are all still available and it is fun to see what your favourite designer might have contributed. A whopping 80 of them participated.

I hope you all are equally engaged in enjoyable pastimes, ones that lift your spirits and help you cope with whatever life is throwing at you. "Oh yes, you will be tested," my grandfather used to say.

So happy to share this post with So Scrappy. Also happy to share with Quilting is More Fun Than HouseworkSmall Quilts and Doll QuiltsSongbird Designs and Kathy's Quilts.

Happy birthday to Tony! That cake looks divine - your daughter is a wonderful baker - I wish I lived closer LOL.
Yes heat and humidity does wonder for the flowers. We have been lucky to get just the right combination so far this summer and the gardens are doing well here too.
I had seen you mentioned Quiltmania awhile back and it reminded me that I always like there magazine but no place local to buy it so I put in for a subscription for a change - I hope my first magazine will come soon.

Tested to the limits, guess we all get that way sometimes. .
Tony, a very late Happy Birthday greeting, smile, Hugh hates to smile in photos so he always looks so serious. A milestone to be happy with, and every morning you get to put 2 feet on the floor is good, as quoted by our GP after Hugh's heart attack and recovery.

Happy Birthday to Tony! That cake looks scrumptious - your daughter must be an amazing baker. The hydrangeas are so pretty! I really dislike humidity, but apparently our flowers thrive in it. Your new fabric is lovely - one of them looks like hydrangeas to me! Beautiful stitching on your tabletopper. That's a great way to use up those blocks!

Happy Birthday Tony! So great when family get together to make a special day. Love your blocks. I can relate to going through stuff. I got rid of so much, but now trying to figure out exactly where to put it. Everyone has beautiful hydrangeas. I am jealous.

Happy birthday to Tony! The celebration looked grand, including that cake, wow! Your flowers do look magnificent! We are still fighting with the weeds, though i did get the area under the plum trees nearly finished this past week. The garden is still a wreck, but will work on that more this week, though it will need to be early as we have high 90’s coming. You table runner is really pretty! I took a peak at those blocks, and there are a couple I would like to try. I will use this afternoon to peruse.

Happy Birthday to Tony! That cake looks delicious. Sadly my hydrangeas have almost no blooms this year. I must have trimmed them at the wrong time or something. I love the fabric you bought. Yes, it definitely has some Autumn tones. Your table topper is very pretty.

Happy Birthday to Tony! My John would have been 80 this year. Your hydrangeas are beautiful. Mine unfortunately are being affected by this 100-108 degree weather we are having, with no break in sight. Your quilt blocks are beautiful, and love those fabrics. Hope you have a great week!
