Free Patterns, FPP Blues Blocks, Turkey Talk

We wonder if this is Tilly, our lone female turkey who has been wandering through every now and then over the years. She had many more poults and sadly is down to two. But these look healthy and hopefully will be able to fly soon and thereby avoid certain predators. Their feathers have such beautiful markings.

Last weekend stitching added to my FPP Courthouse Steps blue blocks. I stitch three at a time and that's about the limit of time I can handle at the machine in one sitting.   LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color's prompt this week is to do with fairs and festivals. Fall Fairs are the thing here and I've spoken about them already. But do pop over to her post and read about wonderful fair and festival memories folks are sharing.

Free Patterns this week... I seem to be drawn to scrappy projects.

Debbie at Piecing the Past Quilts is running another free BOM called Grandma's Scrap Basket.  So pretty and who doesn't have scraps. I like the way this uses interplay between light and dark fabrics. And I would be interested in embroidering that border.

I've remembered  Planted Seed Designs and their page of free patterns. So pretty like this one called Chinese Checkers.

And at Days Filled With Joy, Susan has started her free Christmas in July stitch along-will be lovely little motifs to embroider like her other SAL's, I'm sure.

And this happened...

Recently I'd had my grocery order rung through, I'd pushed my cart a little away from the line and paused to put away my glasses and secure my wallet, etc.  I glanced up and saw a woman waiting on me ...I was blocking her way. I immediately said so sorry and hurried to move my cart. She smiled and said that's okay, no problem at all which was nice but it was her tone that got me.  All the way to the car I thought of it...the way she spoke was like I was a doddery 5 year old who didn't know better. Has this ever happened to you? I didn't take this seriously, mind you, and Tony and I had a little laugh about it when I got home. A sign of my times I guess.

That's such a great photo of Tilly and her baby, Jocelyn! I don't think I've ever seen a turkey that young. Your courthouse steps blocks are beautiful! A few at a time will turn into a quilt before you know it. I never feel like a senior citizen when I'm out and about and around people, but I'm sure I'm seen that way by others. I guess we can just be thankful when people are kind to us!

The other day I had to pay a parking meter for our car, it was the type where you have to fill in the vehicle registration plate number, a young girl, maybe about 15 or so, said did I know how to do it, and proceeded to tell me all the steps to do. I did know, but thought she was being very kind, so accepted all her help,Maybe this was a rare occasion as usually they stand and huff and puff as they wait for you to do it all. Her tone was really nice, I wonder why the lady at your checkout was like that.Maybe she has a home full of little children!!!! Those blocks are so bright and really ... wait for it... " Spiffy" a new word just for you today.XXX

that one pattern does remind me of Chinese Checkers - it is a nice looking quilt as is the other one. The turkeys are so neat looking I haven't seen wild ones here in years but they used to be very common to see

Turkeys in your garden, that's exciting.
I remember when I was at high school, and I thought the teachers were so old, looking back I guess they would be on their 40s and 50s. No wonder young people looking at me, in my late 70s think I'm probably old and doddery, perhaps I am!

Wonderful photos of the turkeys! Wow! I love your courthouse steps, so cheerful! As always, thanks for the free patterns! I've got to check out that nine patch pattern! Most of our grocery stores are filled with older folks so I don't think anyone dare get sarcastic--LOL--it might start a rable of grey-haireds! Have a great day!

Lots of wonderful blue scraps in your courthouse steps blocks. Cute baby turkeys. I have only ever seen the adults around here.

Four blocks of the Courthouse Steps each sitting will eventually lead to a beautiful quilt. One "step" at a time! Lol! One day that young lady will be our age, she just doesn't realize it yet. Thank goodness the polite, nice folks outnumber the others.

Oh those turkeys! So sweet and precious. Your courthouse steps look so, so pretty, love the blues. Ugh on the "tone of voice" comment. She might as well not even say sorry. Unfortunately I do tend to take things like that seriously, it affects me far too much. Maybe I'm too sensitive!

Your turkeys look so nice. The ones around my area look mean and scary! I love your courthouse steps. Great stash buster! I know what you mean about the tone of voice some people use. It makes you feel bad. I feel it gets worse as you get older. I feel invisible sometimes.

We have had quite a few turkeys around our farm this past year. Always fun to see them. My grandmother was a talented quilter and gifted me many quilts. They are treasures and I love seeing them here. Thank you so much for linking up and have a great weekend.

I had to laugh over what happened to you while grocery shopping. It happens to me too, people are treating me sometimes like I am having severe alzheimer. Sometimes I just take advantage of it.... it comes with the age.....

Beautiful courthouse step blocks, slowly but steady you get there!

Lucky you to get such great closeup photos of the turkey family.
Reading about your experience shopping, reminded me of my friend who was in her late 80's and took great exception to people calling her 'dear' (generally quite condescendingly too). She was a sweet little white-haired lady but being called dear certainly got her dander up.

Thanks for sharing your turkey and baby photo. I like seeking turkeys. My mom and her second husband lived in the hills in Rapid City SD and they often had turkey visitors.

Thanks too for the reminder of Tis the Season. I do want to do that stitchery.

I really like the colors in your Courthouse Steps. Such pretty blues and the bright red centers are really eye catching. Love that everyone has a pop of yellow too!.

I do love you Courthouse steps in such a vibrant blue! The baby turkeys are sweet, I’ve not seen babies in a long time, though I did see a teen age wood duck with its momma at the lake the other day. That was a happy moment. I have seen the tiny babies before, but never one that got past a week old. Also, I do believe that Mr. and Mrs. Heron had babies, because yesterday I saw FIVE of them across the lake! We also saw an adolescent bald eagle flying while driving to the grocery store. Canyon Lake has been quite a nursery this year!

The courthouse steps look awesome. I can only sit at my machine for a limited time and find myself breaking up my sewing so I can manage a bit longer.

Mamma turkey and babies look healthy. Hopefully the two she has left will be able to fly very soon.

God bless.

Wonderful turkey photos. We have a big group of turkeys that just "hang out" in our neighborhood, and have for several years now. There are at least 3 mama turkeys right now, but we haven't seen many babies. I did see 6 of the babies go through the yard with one mama a couple of days ago. We've been kind of wondering about predators too.
