Cakes, Tiny 9 Patch, Snow Days Embroidery, Free Patterns

I have a male and female cardinal visiting the feeder. They arrive very late, almost dark, getting a little  last minute nourishment before the long night begins. The male is not nearly as bright as he will become very soon. Did you know they mate for life?

I've not shown a lovely cake from Beth in a while...here is the latest. Dark chocolate for Tony and Marshmallow icing for me.

It is delicious and I've been eating a small piece after supper with a cup of Chamomile.

I've been working steadily on my EPP Tiny 9 Patch blocks...the 3 inch size.  What a great stitch along! Here are more of the reds and pinks so far. Still in their cardboard/paper templates.

And as I was stitching one of the Crabapple Hill Snow Days blocks it occurred to me, I have the real snowy fir trees right outside my stitching chair. Yes, lightly snowing as I write this.
A couple of free projects running just now...

Debbie is hosting another free BOW, this one called Summer Picnic. Details here... Piecing the Past. I like all those special blocks.

Another wonderful QAL with a beautiful quilt to stitch...Puducah in Bloom by Emily Cross is being offered by the folks at American Quilter. All the patterns are there at that link to download now. Shown in different colourways including this pretty one...

Update...
So I handed in my monitor and had my Stress Test on Saturday. The 86 year old woman who went ahead of me passed and those of us in the waiting area applauded her when she announced it to us all. She was a small, wiry kind of person, full of energy. Oh to be that vibrant at that age! Anyway, I did okay too...everything fine though it was a lot shorter than I had prepared myself for....and that made me wonder... how our minds default to the darker so easily.  What was interesting was the technician was from the Ukraine, here 3 years. We had a good chat and I learned a little more about the crisis there. She is hoping to move to Spain as she finds it expensive here and the weather cold like home. I don't blame her as housing especially is through the roof ( no pun intended) here and of course, winter in Ontario, nothing more to be said about that. And Spain...I had a mental image of oranges growing on trees in February. Ahh... Anyway, my testing is done and next up is to sit down with the cardiologist on the 7th.

*Several have asked why I put a u in the word colour. Simply put, we use the British way of spelling words in Canada -especially use "ou" in words like colour, neighbourhood, habour, etc.  Whenever I write, Not Afraid of Color, LeeAnna's blog title, I still have to make an effort to write color like that because it feels wrong.

Hope you all have a wonderful week!

I hadn't even noticed the way you spell certain words in the British way I guess I'm used to seeing it in books and other blogs I don't even think of it anymore.
Glad all went well with your test!

Good luck on your health issues. It is so tough.
I am amazed people don't check before they make a comment. I work hard to use colour, as well as metric measurements! People can always learn something new.
Your handwork is wonderful.

Beautiful photo of the cardinal, Jocelyn! And what a yummy looking cake from your daughter, too. She makes me want to bake! I love your tiny 9 patches and also the Crabapple Hill embroidery. Glad you had good news from the heart monitor - hope all continues on that path.

A new word for Tony, We are both a " cruciverbalist", how about that???It can be both a setter and a solver from what I looked up.
This was in a letter to the Editor in The Listener from a man who had been a checker for David Tossman for many years. It seems he had set some 1400 puzzles in a 13 x 13 format then the more "official" 15x15 layout.
The stress test, did you have to bike, treadmill or did they give you an IV injection and you march on the spot? Hope all goes well on 7th, our older daughter's birthday. And as for "colour" that is the way I spell it too.

I'm the same, write colour, favourite etc, because that's the way these words are spelt here too. New Zealand was settled by British settlers and we are in the Commonwealth with many other countries too, such as Australia and Canada.

That cake sure does look good. You must have quite a collection of tiny nines now.

Oh my! Does that cake ever look decadent and yummy! Your itty bitty EPP nine patches are so lovely! Glad you passed your test! 🙂. Hope the cardiologist gives you good news too! I love it when you write colour, and neighbourhood. It reminds me, I have friends in Canada! ❤️

Ooh - that cake!! It looks delicious. Love those little 9patches. That colorful QAL is very pretty, and such an interesting layout. Yay for good test results. I read so much British stuff I rarely notice the extra U or other different spellings like that.

Glad you have the stress test behind you, and I join you in looking forward to hearing good news from your cardiologist. I hope the Ukraine tech gets her wish to live in Spain, it sounds warm and lovely. That cake looks sooooo good! Chocolate icing is my weakness. You must have the patience of Job to work with those pretty, tiny blocks. A couple of years ago I tried a sewalong that involved 3 and 4 inch blocks. There were words coming out of my mouth that had no place in a sewing room. Those blocks went to Goodwill. I LOVE that you use the U in "colour" - it is a much more interesting that way! :)

I always spell things the Canadian/British way which upset some of the students I worked with as an aide. When I went to school we had Canadian spelling books, now they use American. Too old to change my ways.

What cute tiny 9 patch blocks.

I am glad you passed your test.

God bless.

Beautiful cardinal in snow photo. Yum! My favorite kind of cake. We call them Black Moon Cakes. I make one every year in November for one of my sons. Maybe I should make one for Easter this year. Not as much snow here at the moment, though it remains cold. Our cardinals are enjoying our feeders and adding a bright spot to our brown and gray winter. May your visit with the cardiologist go well. My hubby had to wear a monitor for awhile this month. His heart doctor says he is doing well, so he is back to moving 40 lb bags on concrete mix to fix a hole in our cellar floor. I went through the heart monitor and stress test thing two years ago and am still trudging along with a few skipped beats here and there. May you have a happy stitching day ... :) Pat

Hi Jocelyn! Oh, that cardinal looks so pretty in the fading light. I did know they mate for life. They seem to enjoy each other's company, too, as they are never too far away from each other. Beth's cake looks so YUMMY. She has a wonderful talent that I'm happy she shares with you and Tony. Yikes! Those itty bitty 9-patch blocks are so darn cute. And LITTLE!! So glad the stress was not stressful for you. Now we can look forward to your visit on the 7th to get things straightened out. Happy Thursday to you. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

So glad the stress test is over - it's one I think everybody dreads. Now it's to be hoped there will be good news when you see the cardiologist.
That cake looks so good, although I'm with Tony in liking the dark chocolate. Marshmallow, not so much.

I love your tiny little nine patches - just the ideal size for me! And that cake!!! Such restraint to be able to cut yourself just a tiny piece at a time; I'd be nibbling constantly. Very happy to hear that your test was a success.

Glad the stress test is over and I hope good news is the result. That cake looks so yummy. I always smile when I see a cardinal on my walks. We seem to have a couple of pairs that hang around our yard. I always notice the different spellings on the blogs in Canada and other British colonies. I think that is one of the fun parts of the international blogs - you learn more about other places, their sayings and more about their everyday lives. Hope you have a wonderful week.

Hurrah you passed! :) Love your cardinals…wish we had them here, but we only get blue jays. Those tiny 3 inch nine patches are so sweet, and so is that cake. WOW!!!

My mouth is watering for that cake. My mom used to make me a devil's food cake with marshmallow icing each year for my birthday. It is my favorite. Your embroidery is pretty. I am glad your test went well.
