Sunday Sundries

This far past retirement, I marvel that I had a working life.
Really I  did, but now it is tinged with a dream like quality-was it really me with all that endless doing and forever the sense of busyness that consumed and sometimes overhwhelmed me.  Did I accomplish it all that I was supposed to?  Perhaps my days were longer then for it is true that I cooked, went to aerobics (remember that!), needlepointed, taught Sunday School, read heaps of books, took night, correspondent and summer courses, constantly French braided two little heads of hair and for a time even painted! In addition to my day job.

Now all I accomplish can fit inside a thimble compared to what I used to do. And it wasn't just me...all the working mothers I knew were managing the very same things, some of them even more.

But yet I am busy still or appear to myself to be.  It is a little confounding how I seem to be so ably filling the hours without a job to go to. Perhaps time is really speeding up and the minutes aren't as fleshed out as they used to be.  However, SIL was mentioning the same thing...that his week seems to be Monday/Friday it goes so fast so it's not just a retired perspective apparently.
What about you? Is time speeding up for you too?

This short article from Psychology Today delves into the notion that time is really speeding up.

Hopefully Winter's last flick at us...snow/freezing rain yesterday with another 2 cm today. Just when I was getting my spring hopes up!  Winter Wonderland 2.0

I had to look back to see what I had set as goals for the March OMG at Elm Street Quilts.
I did finish my little Bonhommes piece and it is tucked away in my cupboard so there's that but I confess I completely forgot about the other goal, to get another Kim McLean Glorious Applique block quilted.  However, I have gotten a few more of the pieces to the freezer paper stage ready for applique.

Today should be a day for sad window gazing as the snow flakes drift downward.
But not really... for loner me, on a positive note, winter weather is a great excuse for staying in and getting lots done.  I will be working as usual on my Cornwall Cottage today. The basket motif is very intensive stitching.

Also a good excuse to get out the slow cooker for one of those all day simmering meals... something beef as we haven't had red meat in a while and I always worry about getting enough iron into us.

Hope your Sunday does not whiz by too fast!

So happy to link this post to Kathy's Quilts where hand stitching continues to be celebrated. Also linking with Love Laugh Quilt, and Small Quilts and Doll Quilts.

Oh yea, time goes way to quickly, especially losing an hour!

all of your projects look so good! and snow! I bet you will be glad to see the last of it. Time flies so much I can't believe how fast at times. Now like you I sometimes wonder what I did that made the day go so fast and still yard work needs to be done and why am I not doing it? I used to set a day aside to clean the house every week, now I will all of a sudden notice so much dust in the house and wonder when I last took care of it. It was just New Years Day and now it is April tomorrow!

Sorry that you are still waiting for Spring, surely not to far away now. As for crock pots, slow cookers, whatever we call them, I just love mine for hearty winter stews, casseroles and soups. I'm using mine a little later in the week to cook a piece of pickled pork (ever tried that?) To take away for our next caravanning trip weekend caravanning

I agree--time seems to fly by now that I'm retired--it's amazing--and kind of frightening! All your projects are lovely--those little snowmen are adorable!

Amazing stitching. I don't have the patience these days. Mind you, I finished one my mom began before she died. It took me years!
The snow was a shock after 42 mm of rain...

I too, seem to wonder where oh were the days disappear to. A natural phenomenon I think. = You have some lovely stitching happening there. The snowmen look great and I can't wait to see more of your flowerpots applique....love those fabrics!

When I look back at my diary I wonder how I managed to do so much and work as well! Couldn't do it now ! We have spring in Saskatchewan after a bitterly cold winter. Rather dull and cloudy today but we are above 0 most days!

Time does fly....have you heard this little saying:

When as a child I laughed and wept,
Time crept.
When as a youth I waxed more bold,
Time strolled.
When I became a full grown man,
Time RAN.
When older still I daily grew,
Time FLEW.
Soon I shall find, in passing on,
Time gone.
O Christ! wilt Thou have saved me then?

Jocelyn - I agree that time has sped up. I have only to look at the calendar and, knowing that it is April 1, wonder how three months of 2019 are already past? Of course, we can make it appear to slow down if we choose some different activities. I find sitting on the porch, just watching the birds fly, or the wind blow through the trees, makes it feel a notch less frantic!

I think we are all the same, where does the time go! I still marvel at how much I was able to accomplish while working full time. Your applique project looks gorgeous. xx

I can't seem to set goals. I had to do that when I worked...goals and to do lists for the day, moving each uncompleted task to the next day's list. I was so organized and efficient in that setting. Working from age 13 to 62 with few breaks burned me OUT!! Now I can hardly set a goal and don't stop at the end of the day to remember if I accomplished ANYTHING. It took a couple of years for me to realize who cares if I did nothing but relax all day. I have not become lazy. I have become serene. I have been chasing Serenity all my life. Some days I wonder if I will ever find it. Other days are diamonds.

Your stitching is wonderful. I continue to look for spring as I look out on the pond that froze over night.
xx, Carol

Recently, I too was wondering how I ever accomplished so many things everyday while working out in the big world and being a mom. One thing I notice is chores, cooking, paying bills take longer to accomplish than before. I can no longer do 3 things simultaneously-or at least well. It's frustrating cause I still want "down" time of doing nothing. Hmmm-maybe it's the priorities that I need to change. As usual-I enjoy seeing your handwork. Enjoy your day! mary

When I think of what I used to be able to accomplish when our boys were small it does astound me - now the days fly by and often I have nothing to show for it. It does seem that time speeds up when we grow older. It was a rude awakening here on Sunday when I opened the curtains to discover over 5 inches of snow....enough already!!

You make beautiful stitches. I did some decoupage on two mason jar solar lights that I had previously painted. They look a lot better after their facelift. - Margy

We even had snow falling in Charlotte, North Carolina yesterday morning for nearly an hour! Of course ours is gone now. I'm glad you're going back to that applique because it's one of my favorite patterns and I know you'll do a lovely job with it. Enjoy your snow while we have it. With these crazy global weather changes, maybe someday my grandchildren will be learning about snow in school and having to imagine what it looks like because it won't get cold enough for them to see it ever again!

I agree about time flying. I seem to get up later in the morning and before I know it, it's time to go to bed again. I remember those busy days and I would not want to go back to them at all. Driving children here and there, working, volunteering at my children's schools, cleaning the house, doing the laundry, and reading myself to sleep at night. And the busier I was, the more people would ask of me it seemed. They say if you want something done, find a busy person and I guess that is true. I don't volunteer as much as I use to either. I just did for a woman's tea we are having at church in May and suddenly I am busy again!
