Three Free Patterns on a Thursday, More Panama Pyramids, A Prime Series to Watch

I got the fridge cleaned out and one of the large corner bottom cabinets tidied too. Oh I hate those cupboards. Things get put in them and completely forgotten about. I have to get down on my knees to reach things at the back which is far from convenient. Anyway, I did decide to move some of the small appliances I use more often down there rather than having them way down the hall in a spare room. Big grocery shop is done and it feels good to have tinned goods restocked, things like broth, tuna, beans, etc. Also pickles, beets and olives.

Dog sitting is keeping me busy. Petey is even more "needy" if you can call it that, when it comes to attention, than Ned is.  He wants to wrap himself around your neck and fall asleep that close to you which is marvelous and endearing. It also means he is constantly by your side looking for pats too. What a companion! The groundhogs are hanging about still. Here is a photo of two of the three small ones I've seen. Baby groundhogs are often called chucklings, a word that amuses me much more than kits which they can be called too.

The Beatles were "Big" when I was a preteen. I remember well their appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. I feel like they were there all my life. Paul McCartney is 80!

I was interested in this book as soon as it was published and it's taken this long to get it from the library.  I've just started it and already learned something I didn't know. At 15, Paul wanted to learn the guitar but he was left handed so had to teach himself how to play the chords upside down. That sounds pretty clever to me. He's probably the most famous left handed guitar player in the world.

My Panama Pyramids are growing slowly. EPP is not a fast process.  The triangles are enjoyable to prep for 9 blocks at a time and then stitch while watching an afternoon movie that Hubby has no interest in.

Someone asked; I bought the PDF pattern from Linda Collins and made cardboard templates. There was a SAL in 2016 with many beautiful examples of the finished quilt to be found on the net. Link to her Etsy store.

We enjoyed watching this series on Prime. Always like Lily James, Emily Mortimer and Dominic West. Also enjoy those story lines from the ages where girls had to marry well first and foremost, not who they actually loved or even knew well.

Thank you for all the positive feedback on the Thursday's Three Free feature.

Here is this week's Three Free...

#1

Bear Creek Quilting Company's Pinwheel Posies...how to incorporate embroidered pieces in a wall hanging. I noted this when I was working out how to quilt Hazel's Summer Wildflowers embroideries. This one is using redwork panel pieces.

#2
Perhaps a little Christmas in July stitching is on your mind. This is so cute and would fit anyone's plans. I love Bunny Hill designs and have purchased a few patterns and also fabric of Ann's over the years. She has free patterns available under her Bunny Hill Blog heading. This is one I like called Reindeer Friends. The reindeer pdf pattern is so cute. I bet you have fabric in your stash right now that would be perfect for reindeers in reds. I could see a table runner with the reindeer stitched on either end.

#3
And thinking ahead as well but not quite to Christmas...Jolly Jabber is running a free Halloween Mystery QAL and Cross StitchAL. How clever they've been to realize the cross stitching hobby ballooned like it did during the pandemic and now include it in their pattern making.  Free patterns will be released each Tuesday from July 5 - 26 with Kimberly providing tutorials on their YouTube channel. Link is here at the Fat Quarter Shop.
I enjoyed writing this post and sharing some of what I've found around the net this week. So much to enjoy!

The reindeer friends quilt is so cute, and yes, I bet I have enough scraps to do it.

Petey is a sweetie and I'm glad he and Ned are having a good time. Yes, it's hard to believe that Paul McCartney is 80. We saw Sir Paul in Atlanta several years ago, best concert ever. I also saw the Beatles in Pittsburgh, PA at the Civic Arena in 1964. I saw them, I couldn't hear them for all the screaming. Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!

LOl about the needy dog, I have one like that at times too, only much smaller. Love your pyramids. Oh I feel ya when it comes to cleaning out cabinets. You are brave allowing the groundhogs to remain near your house. A couple of years ago they got into the back garage woodshed at my house, they dug out feet of big gravel. Then the last couple of years they keep trying to burrow under my house so I have to watch and make sure that they are not tunneling near my foundations. They messed up my sump pump by moving dirt. I didn't realize it until mid winter. I need to move a bunch of dirt now. Sigh.

Sweet dogs, and they look so happy! Are baby groundhogs called chuckling because they're also known as woodchucks? Interesting book on John Lennon - I bet my son would be interesin that that one, and me, too. Your Panama Pyramids always look fun! And thanks for the links to free patterns, too!

the dogs are so nice and happy looking I'm sure you love having them around. I was going to do the Panama Pyramids once and got side tracked and never got back to them. I know what you mean about the Beatles I don't know why I was surprised to hear the other day that Paul was now 80 - amazing isn't it and still performing. It is always nice to get stocked up I think - right now my freezer and pantry cupboards are full - I started doing that with the pandemic and have continued to do it now.

Oh, those groundhogs. Adorable, and lucky you! We love groundhogs, though we've never had them in our yard. That could change our feelings about them. My daughter and I often wonder about the names of infants of various animals. I finally concluded that a good name for baby groundhogs/woodchucks was chucklets. But chucklings words, too, and is a very cute name for them.

Glad you got your shopping done. We hit two stores yesterday after we went to the doctor. And in spite of that, Hubs will still have to run to the store today! The doggies and chucklings are precious. Love your pyramids!
I remember that Beatles appearance too. I had no interest in them, so I went with my folks to church as we always did on Sunday nights. That night Daddy told me how proud he was that I didn't ask to stay home and wanted to go to church instead - lol!
Well I'm off to make a coconut cream pie for Hub's BD today. Enjoy your weekend Jocelyn!

Thank you for the link to the embroidered block quilt! I have been working on monthly embroidered bouquets, an iron-on transfer pattern from the 1970s. I've been pondering how to incorporated them into a quilt. I like this idea of four embroidered blocks. I could make a seasonal wall hanging with mine rather than a full quilt. Love your blog and read it frequently!

So sweet to see those laughing faces on the dog brothers. Their lolling tongues say 'maximum happy'. And the cute little chucklings are adorable! Isn't summer wonderful?!

Love your pyramid blocks. The dogs and groundhogs look like they are enjoying the yard. Have a great week!

I heard on the radio about Paul turning 80, surely not, I thought. He was always my favourite Beatle, with that lovely smile. Cnucklings, what a great word. I have to admit that I know very little about ground hogs, and I thought they lived in desert conditions in the wild west? Maybe I'm thinking of gophers, you will have to excuse my Kiwi ignorance.

Thank you for the free patterns! I love the pyramid blocks. I just read a book about Nancy Mitford. Her whole family is very interesting. I saw a woodchuck hanging out in my backyard. I think it's eating our vegetable plants. I hate cleaning the refrigerator but I guess it's necessary!

I'm looking forward to the Mystery Boo Crew SAL I hope I remember to download the clues. July 5th is a long way away for me to forget! haha! Your Pyramids look great. All hand stitching is welcome for TV viewing in my opinion. We have groundhogs here too. Our neighbors cage them and take them away. They can do a lot of damage to our pond.

I also enjoyed that series on Prime a few months ago. And I almost checked out the Lennon audiobook, but then thought it might make me too sad and/or angry all over again. I'd be curious to know your impression. Love your Pyramids, and the Thursday freebie links!

I liked hearing about NEd and his pal... I'd love a clingon puppy... mine are kind of independent. Send him over! Ned too! what a handsome boy. I enjoyed each thing you shared and didn't know about the halloween qal... thanks and the show looks right for us. Love Lily.
I thought I'd been here this week, can't always leave a comment but I hadn't! glad I checked in...

What a fabulously patient dog sitter you are! My son’s dog simply cries and whines and finally falls asleep until my son’s return. It is a joy to see their reunion. Your Pyramid Project is coming along wonderfully! I keep saying how hand stitching is so soothing! I followed the link and the finished quilt is lovely! Thank you for sharing your freebies! Happy stitching!

Beautiful blue pyramid blocks! I've been thinking about starting a pyramid quilt. Adorable chucklings! I've never seen the babies in real life, thanks for the photo.

Lovely pyramid blocks. I am listening to an audio book right now James Patterson on James Patterson, quite funny in places and what a life he has had. He was working at a mental hospital when James Taylor was a patient for about 10 months. Thanks for the show recommendation. I have added it to my list of things to watch.

I may have to join the Boo Crew Stitch along. Those little chucklings are adorable. Those pups look quite content. I really like your pyramid quilt.

Your beautiful pyramid blocks reminded me that I have a book of triangle shaped block patterns that I have never tried. I need to find that book because your blocks have me itching to try out something similar. Thanks for the inspiration!!

Your selection of freebies is spectacular, Jocelyn. I can really relate to needy…Bandit is so needy in the evenings after being out in the yard all day. He finally settles down about 8:00 and it is always a relief. I will be happy to wave good bye to the baby stage. I love chuckling, what a great word. Your EPP project is coming along nicely. I appreciate your slow stitching, it is just lovely!

Chucklings - how cute is that? The little dogs are cute, too, with their happy faces and tongues hanging out. How can Paul McCartney be 80?? You've found some fun free things this week!

Oh I love seeing Petey and Ned together! But having a needy puppy like that is challenging at times, if not endearing. Love the new patterns. Paul did a concert right after his birthday. I'm not sure how the heck he does it! Anyway, have a great day. Your pyramids look great!

Don't think I told you yet that my dyslexia causes me to mis-read your posts about this as Pajama Pyramids. Makes me laugh every time!

Talk about happy faces on those doggies! You can tell they're having such fun together.
Thank you for the links - some fun things to contemplate making for sure.
