In the late September sun, Pink Asters bloom as some of the hostas fade. And a tiny tree frog has been living in the furnace outtake pipe at the back of the house below our bedroom window. We hear his chirps sometimes at night and always wondered where exactly they were coming from. Such incredibly loud sounds from such a small fellow.
He was spotted by the eagle eyed Petey when we were playing ball back there one day and seems to be living there.
This week I've been laying down some cross stitches on my JackRabbit piece. The Gentle Arts Aged Pewter floss arrived along with a package of my favourite cross stitch needles, size 26.
And I've been adding to this Cosy Striped afghan. I'm crocheting this using a number 3.5 hook with the Stylecraft Special DK yarn. Crocheting is an awesome hobby to fill in a few spare moments; never a problem knowing where to pick up and begin and doesn't require special lighting and all the other bits.
Our LeeAnna,
Not Afraid of Color's prompt this week was to mention a health or beauty product we really like.
I've found this particular face cream from Clarins that I love and now keep on hand. It is called
Super Restorative Rose Cream. I honestly think
Clarins is the best cream I've found for my skin which is a little sensitive. It is also the most expensive I've ever used and has a smell that I think is expensive if that's possible. This is their Rosy version which I especially like. Since turning white haired, I feel like I'm even paler and my face can use a bit of brightening. However, I do not find it takes ten years off my face as some of the reviewers claim. :D Wouldn't that be special if it did!
Three Free on a Thursday
Amanda, the wonderful Patchsmith, has been busy making stringed pumpkins and blocks to put together for a table runner. Her instructions are at that link. I love the greens in between.
Amanda generously shares her talents in an extensive
Freebies section on her site. Years ago I noted
her patchy Acorn for instance.
Magpies Mumblings shared this link to the free Christmas Star pattern offered by the folks at the American Quilter site. I thought it worth repeating as it would look stunning in any number of colourways. I'm pleased to share this link with my cross stitching friends. The wonderful Plum Street Samplers shared a very sweet Compliments of Autumn free pattern back in 2010 and it is still available. It features their recurring popular Hare Family and I debated showing the actual pattern photo because it is readily seen all over the net and I couldn't find a picture of it completed. But didn't because of pattern infringement if the designer hasn't stated it can be shared.
And for my knitting buddies, this free pattern called Happy Mittens is from Hobbii...I've always wanted to knit mittens and admire those of you who do. I've downloaded the pattern myself as " she always lives in hope".
Please drop by for my next post where I agonise over what to choose as an
October OMG. I have a wealth of choices as always. :D

I suspect I might be in the minority in being a liker of the sounds of tree frogs and cicadas. Both are sounds of summer to my mind.
Your Mr. Jackrabbit is coming along beautifully.
(and thank you for the linkage - I do like that quilt pattern and think it would make a great scrappy project)
Thanks for the lovely free patterns. Downloaded a few.
What a cute little frog.
God bless.
Hi Jocelyn! Oh, that pattern for the mittens looks like a good one. If only I could knit! Your afghan looks so nice and warm and colorful. With the cooler temperatures, it is nice to work on, isn't it. You stay nice and warm while adding a row or two. And as you mentioned, a project that can easily travel anywhere with you. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
The fall flowers may be fewer, but just as pretty, I think! Fun photo of your little tree frog friend, too. Your afghan is coming right along - such pretty colors! Love your free patterns each week - they're very tempting!
That frog looks pretty cool! Jackrabbit is looking good! I like the colors in your afghan.
I love your hand work.
The tree frog is a familiar sight! I'll bet, since they are nocturnal, they like the lights out your window that attract bugs!
I'm sure Petey was pretty fascinated with that frog. I'm always amazed at how loud they can be! Your rabbit is coming along nicely - love those thread colors. You've reminded me that I need to get my little acorn mini mini quilts out and hang them. Amanda's pattern was such fun to make!
It always amazes me how frogs and grasshoppers and cicadas are so small and yet their chirping is so loud! I love your afghan and the colors are gorgeous.
You are making great progress on the Jack Rabbit as well. Love that acorn pattern - how cute and a great way to showcase some browns. I should pick a Oct OMG this month as well, it will be the motivation I need I think. Good luck picking yours - I'd go with something you 'feel like' working on.
Bunny Rabbit looking great! Hugs
Happy Friday, Jocelyn. We are seeing signs of fall as well. My hostas are fading an leaves are turning. The other day my grandbabies looked for our resident frog that likes to live underneath my wreath- no sighting this time . Lol. Your Jack Rabbit is looking fabulous. I just adore his ears. Thank you so much for sharing the free patterns. I will be checking these out as well. Have a great weekend.
Love your afghan and Jack Rabbit project! Those frogs sure find little places to live in. I've tried Clarins products in the past and really like them. Thanks for the freebies!!
I absolutely love your Jack rabbit . I need to learn how to make mittens. That frog photo is amazing.
I love your Jack Rabbit and afghan projects! That frog is cute. My daughter loves frogs. Happy stitching, and thanks for the freebies!
Mom and Granny and I used to talk about how loud the frogs were, especially after a rain. I mean they were LOUD. We had an old orchard on the east side of the house, and it nearly always partially flooded after a heavy rain, and the frogs were very happy. I absolutely love your afghan. I couldn't access Attic 24 to get the pattern but Lucy says on her Facebook page that Typepad is "having issues", so I will get it later. You've done a beautiful job on yours.
What a lovely cross stitch and I agree crochet is great I love your cosy stripe afghan.
Your crochet afgham is comming along beautifuly, as is the rabit cross stitch.
Cute little frog. Thanks for sharing all the free patterns. have a great week, Jocelyn and happy stitching.
just finished the fall ya'll quilt you mentioned and posted it. Now I MUST go make acorns. LOVE the pattern... and clarins. Sounds good to me with sensitive skin. I plan on looking 10 years younger, so thanks. Love, LeeAnna
Love the color in the crochet project. Thanks for the info on that face cream. I feel the same paleness since allowing my hair to go white.
Your Jack rabbit is really moving along, much faster than my rabbit cross stitch! The Afghan is lovely as are your fall blooms too!
I love the series of designs that the jack rabbit is a part of and enjoyed seeing your project.
