Lone Star Medallion, Pink Rainbow House, Free Pretty Patterns

I normally want to cling to my time but have to admit I'm glad this week is almost over. There are some things you just want behind you. But there is always good stuff happening too...life is not static thankfully. I felt off my routine so pushed myself to exercise this morning and jog the trail with Ned. I am better for the fresh air and activity.

Oh the greening up of everything outside is just wonderful to witness. Kitchen window view yesterday. That's the faucet there in the almost middle.

Here is a small Song Sparrow and I was happy with this photo. A reminder to keep up a hobby I enjoy- photography. Look at the new buds on the fir tree.
Tony and his biking buddies had their first ride of the season and enjoyed it very much. He's been riding with some members of the group for many decades. They are very careful and ride back roads during the week days. And have their favourite haunts to stop for lunch.
Well, in time out is the EPP Lone Star Medallion quilt. Here is the only photo I have on hand and here it is still in the templates. They are all out now.
I've had to unpick hand quilted lines twice, yes twice on this piece. First time after stitching one of the diamonds-that was tough after so much stitching. I didn't like my stitches- too uneven. Second time, it was just hard to stitch through the layers and hurt my fingers. I could see why my stitches were not great. So I dismantled the layers, trimmed more of the seam fabric and am giving myself a little break from it. I am pleased with how it is all holding up with the whole thing being hand stitched though.
Happily, I had better luck in the sewing room with this-  the pink house sporting  the dresden block has been added to my Rainbow Neighbourhood. Dappled sunlight is so pretty too. Overall so bright!
Definitely the house all the neighbours would be talking about.

LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color's prompt this week was have we had any close encounters with celebrities. I've seen quite a few singing celebrities over the years  in St.John's. Off the top of my head...The Turtles, Kitty Wells, Nana Mouskouri, Willie Nelson, Gordon Lightfoot, Paul Anka, but never close up.
For instance I was one of 20000 women who saw Oprah Winfrey when she did a talking concert here in Ottawa. My husband at the time once saw Paul Newman in a northern Canadian airport. Decades ago and he had four bodyguards with him. He certainly did not need them in that setting so I wonder how many he would need in these times. What shocked then hubby was how short Paul was and how old he looked.

Little towns around here are often used for shooting the Hallmark Christmas movies. Just this week, one of them, Carleton Place, had their main street taken over by a film crew shooting one called A Christmas Homecoming. Christmas decorations and fake snow all over the place. I'm not sure if any of these actors really count as celebrities as such. What about you...have you had any close encounters with celebrities?

Great Stuff and Free too!

Wonderful Gayle at Sentimental Stitches is offering all the free patterns to make a quilt called Dream Garden. Each block features an appliqued flower with embroidered embellishments. So pretty. Wish I could show you more but you'll have to visit that link to see how simple and sweet the blocks are. Could be interesting too with modern fabrics.

All People Quilt I found this sweet table runner and it seems like an easy quick one too. Full instructions with templates are to be found there. Rhoda Nelson designer.
Amanda Gregory has this lovely cross stitch pattern as a free download at her link...Strawberry Heart. Thank you Amanda for sharing your talents with us.

Daughter and I did get to the spa for a Mother's Day treat. I'll share a photo soon. Hope everyone reading this has the best weekend ever!

Welcome to the weekend! That bike is pretty wild looking. Your Lone Star quilt looks lovely, even from the backside. I met Christopher Lloyd a few years ago at a restaurant. He was on his way to a some convention, and looked tired with his peppy handler. To my everlasting regret, I did not ask him to come to the contra dance I was heading to. I should have offered to kidnap him, because he looked like he could have used it. I think he'd have had a heck of a lot more fun with us! lol

I think exercise always helps with stressful times, so good for you to keep getting out with Ned! Beautiful photo of the sparrow, too, Jocelyn. We're sitting here this morning watching a whole flock of red crossbills at our feeders. That's a new bird for our yard, and I had written down in 2007 that I wanted to see them! I would have loved to hear Gordon Lightfoot in concert - definitely a favorite singer!

Jocelyn,
I love all of your rainbow houses but the pink is special. I was on a NYC street going to see Grease on Broadway when I got almost knocked off my feet by Richard Burton, my big celebrity encounter. I was lucky enough to see Gordon Lightfoot 4 times over the years. I just loved him, my whole family does, very sad to lose his talent. I still tear up at the loss of John Denver too.

As a young college student I saw Three Dog Night live, as well as the Ike and Tina Turner Review. Now that combined name tells you it was a LONG time ago. More recently, many times we've been to The Heritage Singers concerts and The King's Heralds. Other than that there are the IMOPORANT people who have written books in our world church, evangelists, you know, that kind of celebrities. Not what a lot of other people consider as celebrities. Love your photos, have a lovely weekend.

You are wise to savor your time, and it is wonderful to have things to look forward too. Another very pleasant visit. Thank you. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure you know that I am also a proponent for outdoor exercise. Fresh air & walking is certainly my choice. Sweet little bird in the picture. Love to hear their song which I also get to enjoy while outside walking! Sorry your medallion is in time-out. A postponed fresh start later will probably pay off. Thanks for the links once again. I would love to make Sentimental Studios beautiful appliqued quilt but I'm currently in the middle of another by Gayle. Wish I could make them all. Hope you're having a great weekend!

We saw Gordon Lightfoot in concert twice! I once stood beside a tall man carrying an Eddie Bauer bag with a pair of jeans in it. My daughter and I were waiting for my husband in a hotel lobby in downtown Ottawa hotel. People started taking pictures of the tall man and we were probably in many of the pictures. The tall man walked over to the elevator where Wayne Gretzky and another man had just appeared. Lots of security people around too. That's when I figured out the man must be a hockey player. The next morning, Mario Lemieux was on the front page of the Ottawa paper...team Canada was practicing in Ottawa that week. Mystery solved! (We don't watch hockey in our house--curling is our winter sport of choice. We've met several famous curlers.)
Great bird picture! Your house block looks great.
Take care.

It is so lovely out today that I started my planting. I wish I could do what I was able to even a few years ago, but have to space things out a bit now.

Thanks for the link to the cross stitch pattern.

God bless.

The Mom and Dad don't get enough exercise here. Hey, we love Hallmark movies so we'll be watching for that one. That Lone Star Medallion quilt is so cool. Howdy Ned!!!

I have my husbands binoculars right by my chair, so I can grab them and look at birds while I sip my coffee in the morning. This year we have a pair of Baltimore orioles, indigo buntings, house finch, and woodpeckers visiting our feeder. I'm keeping my eye out for any others. We had a Hallmark movie filmed here in our town, too - several people we know were extras. No big moments with celebs for me, though. I have seen Willy Nelson in concert, and a few others, but not up close.

I'm sorry you have had a tough week. I keep a tote bag nearby that states: "Walk it off" good advice for sure. That pink house is my favorite so far and you made me laugh with the comment about the talk of the neighborhood :D Your wildlife photos are so amazing! Have a better and wonderful week Jocelyn!

What a lovely view from your kitchen window. Your list of celebs is impressive. My closest encounters were with professional golfers, as we used to attend many tournaments in Texas. I absolutely love that house! Here's hoping your next week is a better one.

Re the celebrity question - we got to meet Roger Whittaker in person which was a thrill because we were (are) huge fans of his music. There was a mix-up with our seating for his previous concert tour (I'm looking at YOU Ticketmaster!!) and we ended up being moved from front main floor to the nosebleed section behind a post. There happened to be an expose on Ticketmaster issues being done in the Toronto Star shortly after that and I wrote in with our experience. The president of Roger's fan club saw it and we ended up being gifted with front row seats and a backstage meet for his next concert.
Great links, thank you!

Thank you for sharing, and linking up.

I am so glad that your Tony can still ride his motorcycle! that is so nice. I didn't know Paul Newman was short - I think the way they film things they make you look taller (or shorter) than you actually are. Love that sparrow photo

Beautiful sparrow photo! Close encounters: I was only a few rows from the front when Pavarotti gave his last performance in a full length opera in 2004 at the Met in NYC. I also was in an elevator once with Garrison Keiler, the long time host of the radio show Prairie Home Companion!

Beautiful sparrow picture. I saw Gordon Lightfoot in the 70's in San Diego, also Elton John when he first came to US. My husband and I also saw Sly and the Family Stone, the Carpenters. And to top all that off, I have seen Neil Diamond 22 times, in San Diego, Las Vegas when he opened the Aladdin Theater, in Oakland, San Jose, and the rest of the times were in Sacramento. Can you tell I am a Neil Diamond Fan?

Your pink house is beautiful – and the lighting makes it looks like a dream!
I often wonder if being a celebrity is worth all need for security…
Thank you for sharing the freebies! Take good care!

Hi Jocelyn! Oh, what a wonderful piece your Mom stitched for you. I think of that quote often as it fits many occasions - To everything there is a season. I'm glad you hold her in your heart. My Mom resides in mine, too. Spring has sprung and green is everywhere! Isn't it just fabulous?! The name, Song Sparrow, is so appropriate. What a great picture you shared. Definitely keep doing that! Not only do you love it but you have a true talent for it. One shouldn't waste a God-given talent, I think. Finally, how cool to be able to watch the Hallmark movies film. That is interesting, and you might even get to be an extra although you'd need your Actor's card. {{{Hugs}}} a whole bunch! ~smile~ Roseanne

The detail in that sparrow photo is terrific! I like your house block with the Dresden plate. I too think the neighbors would have lots of conversations concerning it! LOL!!

I am sure the past week or two have been quite difficult. Your sparrow photo is beautiful. I really like the latest house in your Rainbow Neighborhood. Years ago the company my husband worked for sponsored a table at a breast cancer fundraiser that was being hosted by Alec Baldwin and his mother. We all got to meet them. I never had another close encounter with someone famous.
