Besides the vet day and all the puttering Hubby has been doing opening and getting things up and running for the summer, he had two medical checkup appointment days downtown. This means we may as well scrap the whole day as the getting down there through all the traffic and finding parking, etc. is time consuming. Also both of us feel apprehensive about the test results so overall a bit stressful as well.
Friday, homeward bound, we got stuck for almost two hours in the evening rush hour and we wondered how can people do this every day. Luckily we both enjoy cars so had a great time checking out all the kinds of vehicles while we were stopped/crawling along in the middle of the three packed lanes. Saw one Nissan Leaf and two Teslas and declared the Honda Civic the most changed vehicle in our time.
The good news...Hubby is fine and can now go from yearly to every two years for these checkups so we won't have to face those runs for a while.
Some photos I took of the hospital neighbourhood gardens which are very posh and much further ahead than mine outside the city.
This "host" of yellow tulips lining a busy sidewalk; such a sweet sight for walkers.
I can only imagine the level of enthusiasm for container planting as evidenced here.
So many beautiful blooms weighing down the branches of this tree... taken in sunnier times in May, 2016. We noted it didn't have nearly the blooms this year.Ask Rex and Murphy why so downcast?
Because we woke to the sound of heavy rain on our metal roof which they know means our walk will be a little delayed. Note Murphy the Diva commandeers Rex's nighttime bed for herself.
I did manage to sew another flower on a stringed block mostly to see if I liked it. I do and now have a bunch more prepped to applique today. The upside of the rain...slowing down with indoor activities like stitching.
I have a beef roast thawing out for supper that I plan to pop in the slow cooker..still can't completely shake the idea that Sunday supper should be a special one. Any of you feel like that? Cooking a big meal as a little reward for Hubby.
I'm recalling happy moments stitching this... Kathy Schmitz's A Patchwork Year June block called Tweet Home.
So from my little corner of rain drenched Ontario, Canada, Happy June all!
Happy as well to link up with others enjoying hand stitching at the Kathy's Quilts post today. Also linking with Love Laugh Quilt and Em's Scrapbag.

I am so with you on runs to the city - we used to not mind it at all and would spend the day shopping, eating out, doctor appoint more shopping or seeing things - now we go for the doctor appointment sometimes eat out but not always and get the heck out of the city! Things change as you get older. So glad your hubby is now doing better and won't need to see his doctor so often.
Love all the photos you took and the stitchery and applique look so nice.
Glad you got a good report from the doctor! Traffic is the main reason we moved last year. We still have to go back to the Big City (Nashville) occasionally, but have taken to adding 10 miles to a trip to the other side by taking an interstate loop to miss downtown. When we went to Arkansas last month, it only added a minute to our drive time!
You have had a busy week! Great news from the doctor and the vets is always good to get. Beautiful gardens you got to see while there. Your flowers and baskets are just lovely.... and the trilliums! Makes me miss Vermont where we saw them in the woods in red or white this time of the year. Happy stitching to you.
I had 2 days this week I had to scrap too, with all the running around. Love your block!
Oh yea, when the Dad has to do the Doctor or Dentist thing he says it blows the whole day too!
You and your hubby sound like Mike and me in the car - always checking out the different kinds of cars, and especially right now looking for those Teslas. Glad you survived the drive into the city and got good news from the doctor. That is always such a relief! Those strings with the flowers you're appliqueing always make me want to learn that skill. Maybe there is a YouTube video about needleturn applique in my future?! Have a lovely Sunday, Jocelyn!
Both hubby and I wonder how the heck we even had the time to WORK before we retired lol!! Lovely plantings--so lush--we are still very rainy and cold here too...Unusual for this area--but the waters of Long Island Sound are still cold, so we are the recipients of chilled winds....
Love your Tweet Block--so pretty....hugs, Julierose (still hexagon-ing)
When I was working near Los Angeles I would have to spend an hour on the freeway getting 20 miles to work each morning. To make my drive time a shorter 30 minutes I would work late until 7:00 in the evening. I got a lot done but it took a huge toll on my personal life. Love retirement and living in a small town now. - Margy
So pleased you got good reports from the doctor and the vet. We are always apprehensive at these times, aren't we. Love your bird stichery.
That is wonderful, glowing medical visits.
I'm getting tired of containers. I have to be vigilant. I'm not good at that!
Congrats on the good med news. Your trip to Ontario sounds a bit like our trips to Baton Rouge or New Orleans. We just never know what the traffic will be like, except that it will be bad. There's only one way to deal with it and that's just deal with it.
Your stitchery is adorable as is the applique. Yes, do take advantage of the rain!
I'm so glad hubby's test results are good. Those gardens in the city are just so pretty. I time my own errand runs around rush hour here. The valley population is now 4.7 million. I cannot handle the traffic- we have become Los Angeles in many ways. I grew up here when the population was less than 500,000! I don't go out nearly as much as I used too but I like that. Your red work is so sweet. Have a wonderful week. mary
So very happy that all is well on the health issue. We know the feeling here about having to go to San Antonio! It is a day thing and getting back to the Studio is but a dream - so anytime we have to go to SA - chalk the day off for sewing! During the summer time if I have to go to an appt I make it early - everyone is still sleeping in until 10! During the school year I make the appts after 10!
Sometimes I wonder how i did the traffic thing for so long and it is worse now because of the idiots driving on the roadways!
Have a great week! I love that William Morris fabric!
The garden area is pretty!
Glad to hear your DH is doing well and doesn't have to make that trip again for awhile. Just the thought of rush hour city traffic is enough to make me not want to go there. Nice flower pictures - they're ahead of us too. (btw - that comment about the ATM cards is a scam)
Hi there - we have just had our first real week of Melbourne winter weather - nowhere as cold as many places, but the cats seem happy with our new heating system!!
Cheers - Stewart M - Melbourne
Jocelyn - glad you got good news about the hubby's health. Always a little scary for us retirees! We have had a lovely stretch of weather but rain is headed our way Thursday through Sunday. The high Saturday will be 49, compared to over 70 today. But I am OK with that - I am looking forward to some time to hunker down and do some overdue inside projects. Which probably will NOT include a special Sunday dinner - that is up to MY hubby!
I hear your pain about traffic woes. We live on a corridor of 95 (the main north/south route from northeast to southeast USA. Our area has been named the most congested in the US. Although I bet some in Los Angeles and San Francisco might disagree. Your flower block is nifty. Sorry to see you are having inappropriate comments posted. But, glad you remove them. I try to stay vigilant too.
It is so nice to get a good report from the Dr. office! I recall when hubby needed oncology help we went to my siblings near the Dr. office to stay. Traveling on I-5, busy freeway for us country folk, in the rain and dark of early morning to get to an appointment in winter, and becoming made well aware of the huge variety of tail light designs ahead of us! I love to read license plates when on the road. There are the vanity plates to laugh about, the state or Beautiful BC! to notice. And so often in towns at an intersection sighing in frustration as there are just SO MANY WHITE vehicles! Come on, folks get some color in your lives! It reminds me of Henry Ford saying you can get his (Model T?) in any color you want, as long as that is black.
