Pumpkin Dump Cake, Red Manor Applique, Garden Stuff

Continuing on from Sunday's post about stitching pumpkins, I remembered a recipe I loved for eating pumpkin.   A search back through the posts and I found the link- I Made a Pumpkin Dump Cake.  It made a huge cake, in a 9 x 13 pan, and was delicious so we mustered our resources and the two of us finished it off.
                        
Grocery list this week includes the fixings too. (No, there is no cheese or relish in this cake!)
The bread machine came out on the weekend and I/it made a loaf of whole wheat bread. Very good for lunchtime sandwiches. I must remember to do this more often. Don't know if the bread is any better for us, but at least I know what's in it.  I love these small appliances.

As I've said, I watched a number of YouTube videos and learned how to collect seeds from the coneflowers and the yuccas.  This was a TO DO item from a couple of weeks back.  It's partially done as the plants have to be ready and a recent warmer spell slowed the drying process. So an ongoing goal.
Meanwhile my Yucca has doubled and needs to be divided. But I'm a bit chicken to try it as it involves slicing through the whole root ball . Maybe in the spring.
I want to learn more about this project...The Red Manor House Coverlet. Featuring sweet applique motifs, it is The Quilters Guild of the British Isles BOM project this year. I signed up to receive more information about it. I know many of you who would enjoy this stitching.


Also from a past TO DO list...My humane mouse trap has been set up in the garage and is working. I've captured two mice so far and released them at the back of the pond. Loads of hidey places down there! Fingers crossed this will keep mice out of the cars this winter.
I've just started exploring the meditative stitching movement. I want to learn more about it and the possibility of hand stitching with more freedom,  I can draw a little so it is only my own inhibitions that are stopping this particular process. Why anything should stop me at this stage of life is a mystery. However, I think art is about audacity too of which I don't have a single shred so maybe that's it.
 I'd love to hear your thoughts on this matter.  Have you ever wanted to just stitch, with no particular pattern to follow, guided by the colours or threads or fabrics or mood?

Love the Yucca, those distinctive blooms are stunning. Wee mice, I know someone else who uses the humane trap, and lets them loose a good distance from their home.

Hi Jocelyn! I love seeing your flowers drying for collecting seeds, and dividing the Yucca does sound scary. I've had to divide a few plants like that - with a spade, and it has worked well every time. If there's enough time before the weather gets really cold, I think it's better to divide it in the Fall. Time to establish its roots, etc. but I sure can understand your hesitation. Bread machines!! I had my sister's for a bit - is there anything better than the smell of fresh baked bread??! I'm a bit OCD about the slices of bread - straight and even sized. If I could let that go, I would start making it too. I'm loving your humane mousetrap - and it already is working. I don't think I'm much for stitching as the mood hits me - I'm definitely more of a pattern follower - but I'd love to hear more about it and follow you. Jocelyn - I adore pumpkin - I must give this a try! My hubby has been on quite a bread-making binge. We have not purchased bread for months, and I do appreciate that it has no preservatives and very limited sugar. As for your question about stitching - I am way too "rules" driven to attempt stitching without a pattern - but I sure admire those who can!

How sweet those mice are and the cookie from you.... awwww. Of course, they are not nice in the car, but they are still so cute. They might come back because of the warmth of your garage.

Your pumpkin dump cake looks awesome. We have an invasion of mice thanks too the chooks and them dumping feed out of their feeders. I started drying my coneflowers too.

That dump cake is one of my very favorite things to eat. The first time I made it for Thanksgiving, my nephew thought it was a sweet potato casserole and heaped it on his plate with his turkey and dressing - lol!
Your comment about why anything would stop you at this stage of life is so true, yet I still have hesitation about certain projects that appeal to me. Good food for thought.

That pumpkin cake looks very appetizing. I love making dump cakes. Our house is built on a crawl space foundation and when the weather gets cooler at night they come in. I never see little turds but I do hear them behind the wall in the bathroom. Two of my dogs are mousers so mice beware. I think the only meditative free stitching I have done is on the jacket I am sewing boro patches on. I like it that I don't have to be "done" with it before I wear it.

Mice? eeeeeeeek!
dump cake? yes please.
I do want to just stitch with abandon... seeing the colors and lines add up as I go. I've kind of done that... layered strips on batting and went to town. It's a good thing. I might just go do that again

I'm not very bright- I had to go back and read your notes again on the pumpkin cake to realize there's no cheese or relish in there. LOL. I miss homemade bread-and the scent of it in the house.
